GOSPEL ACCL: Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ, King of endless glory! No one lives on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ, King of endless glory! GOSPEL: The Spirit drove Jesus out into the wilderness and He remained there for forty days, and was tempted by Satan. He was with the wild beasts, and the angels looked after Him. After John had been arrested, Jesus went into Galilee. There He proclaimed the Good News from God. The time has come He said, and the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent and believe the Good News. Did You Know? Lent lasts for forty days in imitation of Jesus forty days in the wilderness. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Thursday. There is evidence of Lenten preparation for Easter very early in the Church s history but its practices became more regulated after the Council of Nicaea (325AD). Each Lent all the baptised are expected to adopt the three Lenten disciplines of prayer, fasting and almsgiving to those in need. Symbols & Images The image of the desert evokes thoughts of confronting life in all its rawness. The starkness of the landscape is almost overwhelming. In the desert it is easier to identify what is really important in our lives. Lent symbolically invites us into the desert, to reflect on what is really important and to live more simply in closer union with God.

5 STATIONS OF THE CROSS Every Friday during Lent, the Stations of the Cross will be held in MHC Church at 7.30pm, followed by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Except for the First Friday of March, when we will begin with the Stations of the Cross followed by Holy Mass. Come and join us as we walk with Our Lord on His way to Calvary; to love and compassionate Him on behalf of all mankind, and to make reparation to Him for all He has suffered for each one of us! You are invited to make this night a time of Lenten Spiritual Exercises in preparation for Easter. Stational Mass The Stational Mass in our Deanery will be held in our parish on Thursday 15th March at 7.30pm at Mary Help of Christians Church. Divine Will Holy Mass Mass to honour the death of Luisa Piccaretta will be celebrated by Fr Roman Palma on Tuesday 6th March at 7.30pm at the Maronite Catholic Church, 379 Goodwood Road, Westbourne Park. Copies of The Hours of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ and The Virgin Mary in the Kingdom of the Divine Will, will be available for purchase at each. Supper and film will follow Mass. Growing up in a world of poverty and disadvantage, coupled with a forced marriage at the age of twelve, she was in a very vulnerable position. Even more so when her husband died just two years into their marriage. With the help of a Caritas Australia supported program she is now running her own successful sewing business and has become an inspirational community leader. Please donate to Project Compassion 2018 and empower vulnerable young people like Janaki in Nepal to build a just future for themselves, their families and their communities.
