Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church proclaims that the Gospel is God s gift to all people, to be shared unconditionally. We rejoice in the manner in which diversity has enriched, nurtured and challenged the life and ministry we share in Christ. We celebrate that diversity in our worship, using a variety of traditional, contemporary, and multicultural styles. Everyone is invited to join us for refreshments after worship in the narthex or downstairs in the Fellowship Hall. Today is the beginning of Holy Week. We offer several opportunities for worship this week * Maundy Thursday at 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. * Good Friday at 7:00 p.m. Our Easter Festival services will be held at 8:30 and 10:00 a.m. next Sunday. We ask everyone to power off their cell phones as they will sometimes interfere with our sound system.

C Glory to you, O Lord. 28After he had said this, [Jesus] went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. 29When he had come near Bethphage and Bethany, at the place called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of the disciples, 30 saying, Go into the village ahead of you, and as you enter it you will find tied there a colt that has never been ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, Why are you untying it? just say this, The Lord needs it. 32 So those who were sent departed and found it as he had told them. 33 As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, Why are you untying the colt? 34 They said, The Lord needs it. 35 Then they brought it to Jesus; and after throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. 36 As he rode along, people kept spreading their cloaks on the road. 37 As he was now approaching the path down from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the deeds of power that they had seen, 38 saying, Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest heaven! 39Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, Teacher, order your disciples to stop. 40 He answered, I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out. Today he entered the holy city in triumph and was proclaimed messiah and king by those who spread garments and branches along his way. Bless these branches and those who carry them. Introduction to the Day Today's liturgy begins with a palm procession, commemorating Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Quickly the tone of the service changes as we meditate upon Jesus' passion and death. Because this story is so central to our faith, we hear Luke s account of the passion today and John's version on Good Friday. Though Jesus is obedient even unto death on the cross, he is exalted by God. Eucharistic Ministers An important part of worship at GA is weekly Holy Communion. The pastor seeks to make monthly visits to the homebound of the congregation and share with them the Lord's Supper. A new ministry begins today, as lay people have volunteered to bring the communion elements from our worship to one homebound person of the church. They will share a time of prayer and scripture with them and then distribute the elements that have been consecrated at our worship service. Today we commission Jean Jenson, Lynn Lurvey, and Kari Navratil as Eucharistic ministers. We welcome others to be a part of this ministry. We believe that Christ is present in the bread and wine and that we receive God s grace and forgiveness through this meal. Those adults and children not communing with us are invited to come forward to receive a blessing. Please receive a wafer and dip it into the larger chalice containing wine or into the smaller chalice containing grape juice. There are gluten-free wafers available for those who need them. We Welcome Children in Worship! We at Gustavus Adolphus love to have children attend our worship services. Children are always welcome to sit with their families close to the front of the sanctuary so they are able to see the altar and the action up close. It is always OK to leave during a service to comfort your child. We ve prepared an area in the upstairs education wing where you can take children who may need a break from the service. There is a speaker in the room so you can still listen to the service.
