Collect of the Day The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. Give us grace, O Lord, to answer readily the call of our Savior Jesus Christ and proclaim to all people the Good News of his salvation, that we and the whole world may perceive the glory of his marvelous works; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. The First Reading Please be seated. Reader The Liturgy of the Word A Reading from the First Book of Paul to the Corinthians. 1 Corinthians 12:12-31a Just like your body has lots of different parts but you have only one body, that s how it is with the Body of Christ, the Church. We were all baptized into one Spirit and into one Body all of us, whether we re Jewish, or Greek, or slaves, or free. It s a good thing the foot can t say: I guess I m not part of your body because I m not a hand. If all you had were eyes, but no ears, how could you hear? And what about being able to smell? We need all our parts, the ones we use all the time, and the ones we don t even think about. They re just as important. Because we re all connected in the Body of Christ, if one of us suffers, we suffer together. If someone is honored, we re all proud. In God s Church, there are different roles to play. Some are teachers, some preachers. Some are little helpers. Find your role and be your very best. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. 3

The Holy Gospel Luke 4:14-21 Deacon Deacon The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke. Glory to you, Lord Christ. Jesus came back from the desert filled with the power of the Spirit. Everyone was talking about him and they asked him to come teach them in their synagogues. When he came to the synagogue in Nazareth, his hometown, he stood up and read the scroll of Isaiah that had been given to him. He found the part that read, God has anointed me with his Holy Spirit and sent me to bring good news to people who need it most. I ve been sent by God to put people back together whose hearts are broken, to let prisoners know they are free people, to release people from whatever is holding them back. To let them know that this time is God s time. And he rolled up the scoll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The people couldn t take their eyes off him. Then he said, Today you have heard this scripture come true. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ. The Sermon The Rev. Kristin Kaulbach Miles Nicene Creed Please stand as you are able. Words: Timothy Dudley-Smith (b. 1926) 1993 Hope Publishing, Inc. Used by permission. Music: Nettleton, Melody from A Repository of Sacred Music, Part II,

Prayers of the Reader Father, we pray for your holy Catholic Church; That we all may be one. Reader Grant that every member of the Church may truly and humbly serve you; That your Name may be glorified by all people. Reader We pray for all bishops, priests, and deacons; That they may be faithful ministers of your Word and Sacraments. Reader We pray for all who govern and hold authority in the nations of the world; That there may be justice and peace on the earth. Reader Give us grace to do your will in all that we undertake; That our works may find favor in your sight. Reader Have compassion on those who suffer from any grief or trouble; That they may be delivered from their distress. Reader Give to the departed eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon them. Reader We praise you for your saints who have entered into joy; May we also come to share in your heavenly kingdom. Reader Let us pray for our own needs and those of others. You are welcome to offer prayers aloud or in your heart. O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed Son to preach to those who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you; bring the nations into your fold; pour out your Spirit upon all flesh; and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Confession of Sin and Absolution Deacon Nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus, therefore let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor. You may stand or kneel, as you are able. All All Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen. 6

The Great Thanksgiving Sanctus The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give him thanks and praise. It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. Because in the mystery of the Word made flesh, you have caused a new light to shine in our hearts, to give the knowledge of your glory in the face of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. And so this day we join with Saints and Angels in the chorus of praise that rings through eternity, lifting our voices to magnify you as we sing: Blessed are you, gracious God, creator of the universe and giver of life. You formed us in your own image and called us to dwell in your infinite love. You gave the world into our care that we might be your faithful stewards and show forth your bountiful grace. But we failed to honor your image in one another and in ourselves; we would not see your goodness in the world around us; and so we violated your creation, abused one another, and rejected your love. Yet you never ceased to care for us, and preapred the way of salvation for all people. Through Abraham and Sarah you called us into covenant with you. You delivered us from slavery, sustained us in the wilderness, and raised up prophets to renew your promise of salvation. Then, in the fullness of time, you sent your eternal Word, made mortal flesh in Jesus. Born into the human family, and dwelling among us, he revealed your glory. Giving himself freely to death on the cross, he triumphed over evil, opening the way of freedom and life. On the night before he died for us, Our Savior Jesus Christ took bread, and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his friends, and said: Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. 8

As supper was ending, Jesus took the cup of wine, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said: Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me. Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: All All Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. Remembering his death and resurrection, we now present to you from your creation this bread and wine. By your Holy Spirit may they be for us the Body an Blood of our Savior Jesus Christ. Grant that we who share these gifts may be filled with the Holy Spirit and live as Christ s Body in the world. Bring us into the everlasting heritage of your daughters and sons, that with all your saints, past, present, and yet to come, we may praise your Name for ever. Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ, in the unitiy of the Holy Spirit, to you be honor, glory, and praise, for ever and ever. Amen. All And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. Fraction The breaks the bread. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us; Therefore let us keep the feast. The Gifts of God for the of God. All who hunger for God are cordially invited to this table, including children. You may consume the bread and then drink from the chalice (please grasp the bottom of the chalice to guide it to your lips). Also, you may dip the bread in the wine and then consume it, or you may leave the bread in your palm for the chalice-bearer to dip in the wine and place on your tongue. Gluten-free wafers are available; please indicate to the priest that you require this alternative, and the gluten-free paten will be brought to you. Those who do not wish to receive communion are welcome to come forward for a blessing, indicated by crossing your arms over your chest. Communion Anthem 9

Post-Communion Prayer Please stand as you are able. Concluding Rite All Let us pray. Eternal God, heavenly Father, you have graciously accepted us as living members of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ, and you have fed us with spiritual food in the Sacrament of his Body and Blood. Send us now into the world in peace, and grant us strength and courage to love and serve you with gladness and singleness of heart; through Christ our Lord. Amen. Blessing The blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you, and remain with you always. Amen. Closing Hymn 10
