2 HOLY CROSS CHURCH Dear Parishioners, You may recall last year at Easter Bishop da Cunha shared with us his first pastoral letter entitled Rebuilding in Faith and Hope. In it he shared his hopes and vision for the future of the Diocese of Fall River. This past year Bishop da Cunha and the Diocesan staff have been working hard doing the ground work necessary to launch a Diocesan-wide strategic planning process for the vibrant future of our Diocese. He now invites you to share your hopes and dreams for our local church in the Diocese of Fall River. Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha, S.D.V., is hosting a series of Listening Sessions at different parish locations as part of the strategic planning process for the Fall River Diocese. Members of parishes are invited to attend one of dialogue sessions to offer your thoughts into this process. Listening Sessions are scheduled for: March 20, St. Mary Parish, Norton; March 21, St. Ann Parish, Raynham; April 5, Christ the King Parish, Mashpee; April 12, St. Mary Cathedral; April 18, St. Joan of Arc Parish, Orleans; April 20, St. Julie Billiart Parish, Dartmouth; and April 23, Our Lady of Victory Parish, Centerville. All sessions will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. with the exception of the final one in Centerville, which will begin at 7 p.m. I highlighted the one in our deanery that I will be attending next week, but feel encouraged to attend any session that fits into your calendar. Please also attend the Safety and Emergency Preparedness Fair taking place in the Great Room this weekend after all of the weekend Masses except the Sunday evening Mass. Parishioner and Health Ministry coordinator Ginny Croak who was the second speaker at Mass last weekend has brought together many good resources and people to help us think about staying safe at Holy Cross Parish. It is a start to what I know will be an ongoing vigilant process of getting to know our first responders in Easton, developing a safety and preparedness plan for our parish, and heightening our awareness of the buildings entrusted to our care from past generations. Monday, March 19 th is the Feast of St. Joseph, husband of Mary and foster-father of Jesus. St. Joseph, besides many other titles, is the patron saint of the Brothers of Holy Cross. Many of you remember Br. Jim Madigan, C.S.C. after whom the baseball field out behind the church is named after. I never got a chance to meet Br. Jim but I have learned he was a dedicated bookkeeper for the parish, was a recognizable face greeting parishioners on the sidewalk before and after Masses and loved to dance. The newly renovated security building at Stonehill College is being named and dedicated in his honor Monday afternoon on campus. Come to St. Joseph with your needs as Br. Jim and many of us in Holy Cross do, especially St. Andre. May celebrating St. Joseph s feast day be a mini Lenten reprieve. St. Joseph, pray for and protect us! God Bless, Fr. Brad Lenten Stations of the Cross are celebrated every Friday evening of Lent at 7 p.m. in the church. Enhance your observance of Lent by participating in this commemoration of the passion and death of the Lord. Easter Flower Donations Envelopes for donation of Easter flowers are available in the church vestibule and the side exits of the church. When and in what way have you seen life come from death? For example, when have you sacrificed something for a friend or family member? 2

5 Lenten Holy Hour Join us in the church for Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament each Wednesday evening during Lent at 7:15-8:15 p.m. As Catholics we believe in the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist - to come to adoration is to sit in the presence of Christ. Consider instead of "giving up" something this Lent to committing to spending some time with Jesus. There will also be a priest available for the sacrament of Reconciliation during the holy hour. The Holy Hour was inspired by the work of the parish vocation committee, and we will be dedicating this hour for the future of our parish, for the work of our Respect Life Committee, and for all of the prayers in our parish book of intercessions. For more information, contact Margaret Dwyer Hogan at or mmdmph1997@gmail.com. Welcoming Inactive and Returning Catholics If you are a Catholic who has been away from the church, know that we are thinking about you. We invite you to be an active part of us again. LANDINGS is a program that offers a safe place to land, a place for listening and for being heard, a place for asking questions and for reconnecting with the faith as an adult. During the eight-week LANDINGS program, a small group of active Catholics, some of them returnees themselves, meets with a small group of inactive, returning, and questioning Catholics to share and explore their faith together. Or if you are regularly attending Sunday Mass but wish to learn more bout your faith and grow in it, this program might be for you as well. If you are interested and want more information, call or Harold Smith at hrsmith@comcast.net or You can also register with Gail at the parish office, at gshea@holycrosseaston.org or The spring session begins on Monday, March 19 and meets each Monday evening through April 16.
