Welcome to Farringdon Independent Church Thank you for being with us today. Everything you need for the service can be found in this booklet and in the hymn book at your seat in the church: the red Worship & Rejoice hymn book. Our service is typically about an hour. If you are looking for a spiritual home, we have a variety of services and programs to meet your needs. Please introduce yourself to the morning greeters or the hosts at coffee time in Narthex (front lobby) or to Rev. Vern Tozer & Rev. Wes Coburn after the service to learn more about what this church has to offer. If it turns out that Farringdon is not the right place for you, we will help you identify alternatives to explore. Washrooms are located on the lower level, either a barrier-free washroom below the Narthex, accessible via the elevator or stairs, or in the Christian Education wing - just ask one of the greeters for directions. Children`s programming during Fall, Winter and Spring occurs each week, with the children coming forward during the 2nd Hymn for a Children`s Time then on to Sunday School. Nursery age children are cared for the entire service, however, if your child would like to remain with you for the service that`s great too. Ask about our three, free mid-week young Christians nights. The Collection plate at Farringdon is a responsibility of members and adherents. You are welcome to make a financial contribution to support our ministries, however, if you are visiting us for the first time, we wouldn't expect you to make a financial gift anyway - we'd rather ask you to pay attention to God's blessings in your life, return next week, and make your gift then. If it is the 1st Sunday of the month, Christmas or Easter, we celebrate Corporate Communion, meaning all assembled sharing in the Holy Feast. The procedure for communion distribution is to each pew, and consuming all together. We believe our Lord Jesus Christ gave us a new commandment to serve as Jesus served, therefore in symbolic representation of this when communion, in bread and wine, is distributed the plate is passed to the second last person in the row and served to the last, then passed onward toward the middle where each person is served communion. You are welcome to share in the bread and wine at communion. The sacrament of Holy Communion will be celebrated immediately following the Morning Worship and Greeting at the door. All Christians are welcome. The service is brief. Please join us for refreshments after the service in the Narthex. Just follow the crowd and join in as a welcome child of God. If you are visiting for the first time, please let us know as we have a welcome gift for you. Page - 1 -

Farringdon Independent Church 287 Mount Pleasant Road, Brantford, Ontario N3T 1V Guest Ministers: The Rev. Vern Tozer & Rev. Wes Coburn Co-ordinator of Youth & Family Ministries: Mrs. Katelyn Hines Organist: Mr. Derek Tiller Church Administrative Assistant: Margot Brown Church Sexton: Mrs. Annett Holyomes CCLI# Remembrance Day Service Corporate Communion Sunday, November 5, :30 a.m. "Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for He is our God " (Psalm 95:6-7a) The Prelude I Basse sur le trompette ~ Felix Marchand The Prelude II Marche Solennelle ~ Edward Best The Chimes Summon Us to Worship Call to Worship Leader: We will bless the Lord at all times, People: God s praise is always on our lips; in the Lord our souls shall make their boast. Leader: The humble shall hear and be glad. Glorify the Lord with us. Together let us praise God s name. People: We sought the Lord and were heard, from all our fears set free. Page - 2 -

Prayer of Invocation Leader: Look toward God and be radiant; let your faces not be ashamed. When the poor cry out, the Lord hears them and rescues them from all their distress. People: Taste and see that the Lord is good. They are happy who seek refuge in God. First Hymn: O Valiant Hearts O valiant hearts who to your glory came Through dust of conflict and through battle flame; Tranquil you lie, your knightly virtue proved, Your memory hallowed in the land you loved. Proudly you gathered, rank on rank, to war As who had heard God s message from afar; All you had hoped for, all you had, you gave, To save mankind yourselves you scorned to save. Splendid you passed, the great surrender made; Into the light that nevermore shall fade; Deep your contentment in that blest abode, Who wait the last clear trumpet call of God. Long years ago, as earth lay dark and still, Rose a loud cry upon a lonely hill, While in the frailty of our human clay, Christ, our Redeemer, passed the self same way. Still stands His Cross from that dread hour to this, Like some bright star above the dark abyss; Still, through the veil, the Victor s pitying eyes Look down to bless our lesser Calvaries. These were His servants, in His steps they trod, Following through death the martyred Son of God: Victor, He rose; victorious too shall rise Page - 3 -

They who have drunk His cup of sacrifice. O risen Lord, O Shepherd of our dead, Whose cross has bought them and Whose staff has led, In glorious hope their proud and sorrowing land Commits her children to Thy gracious hand. The Remembrance Observation Flag Processional ~ Markus and Machaela Mathurin Reception of Flags ~ Rev. Wes Coburn & Rev. Vern Tozer National Anthem Laying of Wreath Poem O Canada ~ Khloe Jackson and Briauna VanSickle In Flanders Fields by John McRae Read by ~ Faith Symons-Caverly In Flanders fields the poppies grow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields. Last Post Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. Moment of Silence Piper s Lament Piper - Justin Willson Page - 4 -

Reveille Trumpeter ~ Bruce MacColl Poem For the Fallen by Laurence Binyon ~ 1917 Read by ~ McKenna Butler They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. Royal Anthem Any who wishes, will answer - - We will remember them God Save the Queen God save our gracious Queen, Long live our noble Queen, God save the Queen: Send her victorious, Happy and glorious, Long to reign over us; God save the Queen The Greeting Leader: The Lord be with you People: And also with you Announcements Call to Confession Prayer of Confession (in unison) O gracious and gentle and condescending God, God of peace, Father of mercy, God of all comfort: we confess before you the evil of our hearts; we acknowledge that we are too inclined toward anger, jealousy, and revenge, to ambition and pride, which often give rise to discord and bitter feelings between others and us. Too often have we thus both offended and grieved you, O long-suffering Father. Forgive us this sin and permit us to partake of the blessing you have promised the peacemakers, Page - 5 -
