1 Palm Sunday April 9, 2017 WELCOME TO THE PARISH OF ST ANDREW AND ST MARK MISSION STATEMENT The Anglican parish of St. Andrew and St. Mark in Dorval is a welcoming and inclusive community centred in Christ. We aim to be thoughtful stewards of God's creation through beautiful worship and the sharing of God's love and compassion in our neighbourhood and beyond

2 Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week. The service is divided in two sections, the Blessing of the Palms and the reading of The Passion. During the blessing of the palms we remember of Jesus s triumphal entry into Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover. In Christian tradition, The Passion, refers to the arrest, trial and death of Jesus. We read an account of these events from one of the gospels this day that we might be reminded of how quickly those who celebrated Jesus entry to Jerusalem began to call for his death. We will journey through praise, with joy on our lips; we will travel through betrayal and death, cradling hope deep in our hearts. Jesus leads us through this week, and we will follow, for he is the life we long for, he is the Word who sustains us. We wave palm branches in anticipation, we lay our love before him, to cushion his walk. Setting aside all power, glory, and might, he comes: modeling humility and obedience for all of us. Hosanna! Hosanna! Blessed is the One who brings us the kingdom of God. Blessing of the Palms God our Saviour, whose Son Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem as Messiah to suffer and to 2

3 die; let these palms be for us signs of his victory and grant that we who bear them in his name may ever hail him as our King, and follow him in the way that leads to eternal life; who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. 10 Nominations for Search Committee In a few weeks we will be holding a Special Vestry Meeting to elect members for the Search Committee, charged with searching for a new Incumbent. Normally there are 7 members, of whom 2 are Wardens. It is not an easy task, but it is a vitally important one for all of us. Please give your prayerful consideration to either standing yourself or nominating somebody else, bearing in mind that the Search Committee should be as broadly representative of the Parish as possible. You can make your suggestions to any member of the Corporation. Weds April 19 Parish Council meets in the Loft and the Book Club meets at the home of Kathleen Dandurand both at 7:30pm. Sat April 22nd, 2017, 1pm The City of Dorval s Environment Committee is hosting a bilingual Conference on Climate Change and Overconsumption with meteorologist Patrick de Bellefeuille, a weatherman with MétéoMedia, on Saturday, at the Sarto Desnoyers Community Center, 1335 Lakeshore Road. Dorval. All are welcome. The Friends of the Dorval Library will hold their annual sale of used books and audio-visual materials from April 26 to April 30, 2017 at the Peter B. Yeomans Cultural Centre, 1401 Lakeshore Drive, Dorval. This short bilingual, ecumenical service has been a highlight of many people s Easter celebrations and is one of the few times that we join together from our different churches.
