Friday Night Flame in Mercedes Nov. 18 All young adults ages are invited to celebrate the closing of the Jubilee Year of Mercy with an evening of prayer and fellowship on Nov. 18, 6:30 to10 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 920 Anacuitas St., Mercedes. This gathering of young adults will start with Vespers and Holy Mass, followed by a night of fellowship with activities, music and light refreshments. The event, hosted by the Stewardship and Development Office, will begin at 6 p.m. and continue till midnight. Valet parking will greet you upon your arrival to this year s Casablanca themed dinner. A silent auction will kick off the night s festivities with drinks, hors d'oeuvres and music at 6 p.m. Partake of the cigar bar and spirits until the formal program begins at 7 p.m. followed by dinner at 8 p.m. and dancing till midnight to the sounds of The Legends Sonny Ozuna, Agustin Ramirez and Freddie Martinez. 2 It is that time of the year for the annual Health Insurance Open Enrollment. Open Enrollment will be from Dec. 5 to Dec. 16 to be effective Jan. 1, This year the diocese will not have any open enrollment meetings, but those who have any questions can contact the Insurance Department at (956) or (956) Save the Date for the Mother/Daughter Program Jan. 28 The purpose of the Mother/Daughter Program is to provide an atmosphere of love and learning to discuss the important topic of growing up. This program is provided to help Mothers and their daughters establish a foundation for continued communication between each other, while emphasizing the values of respect, understanding, and appreciation for God s gifts. The program is presented by the Diocese of Brownsville Family Life Office in two sessions: a morning session in English and an afternoon session in Spanish. The Mother/Daughter Program explores God s special gift of human fertility and the beauty and wonder of God s plan for growing up and becoming a woman. Some of the topics presented during this session discuss the changes in a girl s body as it prepares for motherhood; the onset of ovulation and subsequent menstrual periods; the functions of the female reproductive system; the sacredness of human life; the virtue of chastity; reverence for our sexuality, and a confidential question and answer segment. San Juan Diego Ministry Diocesan Institute Fall 2016 Courses Good Grief Program for Grief Ministry (Death or Divorce) (8 week course) The course will highlight some of the Ministry Programs available to be facilitated by parishes to assist persons who have lost a loved one through death or a spouse through divorce. It is meant for parish leaders/facilitators who can then facilitate a 10 week program in their respective parishes. The course will give an overview of the Evangelist and his message with special attention to a narrative analysis of the gospel, including key concepts and themes. The closing chapter of the book includes three brief lessons based on the lectionary readings of Saint Matthew. In this apostolic exhortation, the Holy Father Pope Francis responds to the recommendations of the 2012 Synod of Bishops on the New Evangelization by outlining a roadmap for the Church s pastoral mission and work in the world. He envisions a Church of Spirit-filled evangelizers who emit joy and care for God s holy people, especially the poor. This now needs to be refreshed/redone every five years. Second, religious education leaders are to plan and present a Touching Safety lesson during both the fall and spring to all children from kindergarten to 12th grade. Finally, parishes will present safety awareness material to all parents who have their children in either the First Communion or Confirmation classes.
