El 7 de septiembre, a las 7 p.m., en la Iglesia de San Jose Obrero en McAllen, Paulina Gálvez Ávila, dará un testimonio sobre la enfermedad de su hija, que humanamente ya no había esperanza de vida y que en ese momento se la dejaron en manos de Dios por intercesión de Joselito. Una reliquia de la primera clase del beato estará en exposición. Mass for Lay Ecclesial Movements, Apostolates and Associations set for Sept. 10 Bishop Daniel E. Flores will celebrate a special Mass for all members of lay ecclesial movements, apostolates and associations at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle-National Shrine. For more information please contact Brother Hoss at: Cell (956) or by at hossalvarez1965@gmail.com Protecting God s Children Announcement Our diocesan plan is for all people who work with children to have viewed the safety awareness DVD: Protecting God s Children, to submit to a DPS background check, and sign the code of ethics. This now needs to be refreshed/redone every five years. Second, religious education leaders are to plan and present a Touching Safety lesson during both the fall and spring to all children from kindergarten to 12th grade. Finally, parishes will present safety awareness material to all parents who have their children in either the First Communion or Confirmation classes. Looking for TVC Ambassadors The communications team for the Diocese of Brownsville is exploring ways to expand The Valley Catholic newspaper s reach and include more parish stories. To do this, the team is looking for volunteers from each parish or deanery to serve as a Communications Ambassador for their parish. The Valley Catholic, the diocese s newspaper, is an award-winning publication that provides stories each month, many of which are not covered by the secular media. Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church Fall Festival set for Oct. 22 Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Mercedes, 322 S Vermont, is having their annual fall festival on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 4 to 11 p.m. The festival will include a variety of food, games with live music by Mid-Night Run.
