2 BANNS I Kristen Vaughan and Brett DeFranco ASH WEDNESDAY, (MARCH 1 st ), & GOOD FRIDAY, (APRIL 14 th ), ARE DAYS OF FASTING AND ABSTINENCE. ALL FRIDAYS OF LENT ARE DAYS OF ABSTINENCE Abstinence: The law of abstinence requires a Catholic 14 years of age until death, to abstain from eating meat on Fridays, in honor of the Passion of Jesus on Good Friday. You are also to abstain from soups and gravies made from meat products. Fasting: The law of fasting requires a Catholic from their 18 th birthday up until their 60 th birthday, to reduce the amount of food eaten. The Church defines this as one meal a day, and two smaller meals, which, if added together, would not exceed the main meal in quantity. LENTEN WEEKDAY MASSES Monday through Thursday 7:00 a.m., 8:15 a.m., 7:00 p.m. Friday 7:00 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. Saturday 8:15 a.m. STATIONS OF THE CROSS Fridays of Lent 7:00 p.m. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION CHAPEL IS AVAILABLE DAILY FOR YOUR DEVOTION CONFESSION Saturdays 3:00-3:30 p.m. After all Saturday vigil Masses Saturday, April 8 th 2:30-3:30 p.m. Monday, April 10 th and Wednesday, April 12 th 4:00-4:30 and 7:00-7:30 p.m. BANNS OF MATRIMONY

3 RECENT BAPTISMS Mark Edward Jaremko PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR SICK Please keep in your prayers Noman Honek, Helen Dales, and all the members of our parish who are ill. May the healing hands of Jesus Christ be upon them! Please call the rectory office at (216) , if a family member s or friend s name needs to be added to the list. IN MEMORIAM Please remember in prayer Julian Stanczak and all who have gone before us. May God bring us comfort in our grief and bring our loved ones to eternal rest. FATHER JAMIE S HEALING HUMOR Michael Moriarty, an Irish Catholic, rather lax in his faith, remarked one day to his pastor, Father Kelly, I wish you were Saint Peter. Why? asked the priest. Well, explained Moriarty, you would have the keys to heaven and you could let me in. I think it would be better if I had the keys to the other place, replied his reverence, with an impish grin, then I could let you out. (from Jokes Priests Can Tell, Vol. 6, 1988 by Msgr. Arthur Tonne) Let us strive for heaven. Jesus came to give us life in all its fullness. He performed a great miracle for His friend Lazarus by raising him from the dead. Lazarus would have to die again one day. However, in heaven, there is no more death or mourning; only the fullness of life. The Lord of Life wants all His friends to be with Him. If we follow in Jesus footsteps each day, He will raise us to new life, life with Him forever in heaven.

4 HOLY WEEK AND EASTER HOLY SATURDAY EASTER BASKET AND WHY EUCHARISTIC ADORATION CHAPEL HOURS The Eucharistc Adoration Chapel will CLOSE for the Triduum at 5:00 p.m. on Holy Thursday, April 13 th and remain closed during the Triduum and Easter Sunday. The chapel will OPEN for adoration at 8:00 a.m. on Easter Monday, April 17 th. SPIRITUAL PROGRESS RATHER THAN SPIRITUAL PERFECTION Father Chris How do we know if something is right or true? One of the most important ways to know this is to listen to the Holy Spirit speaking in our hearts. We can just sense when something we hear or say is right and true. There is a certain feeling that overcomes us at these moments. We are blessed with a deep sense of peace when debating or even arguing a point of view that we cannot explain. We simply know when we are in possession of the truth. But first, we need to be close to God. We need to allow the Holy Spirit to speak to us. If we want to say the right thing, if we hope to pass along the truth to others, it all begins with our relationship with God and the Grace of the Holy Spirit. BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT SESSIONS APRIL 20 th MAY 25 th The Easter Season will soon be upon us. We celebrate the joy of the Resurrection. Yet it is so hard to be joyful when a loved one has died. The loneliness is hard to bear. How to cope with life after loss is so challenging. If you are grieving a loss, consider coming to Saint Columbkille s Bereavement Support Group, which will host the first of six sessions beginning Thursday, April 20 th, at 7:00 p.m., in the rectory basement. To register, contact Father Jamie at the rectory office or call JoAnn Fellner at (216) WHAT FOODS TO INCLUDE IN YOUR Food will be blessed on Holy Saturday, April 15 th, at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Would you like to participate but do not know what to include? At the rectory office and in the vestibule of the church you will find information on How to Put Together a Traditional Easter Basket.

WOMEN S DAY OF RECOLLECTION REFLECTING UPON AND ASKING GOD FOR THE COURAGE TO ACCEPT AND TO LIVE IN ACCORD WITH HIS WILL Saturday, April 29 th, 8:15 am. 12:30 p.m. Gather with other women of our parish and those of our neighboring parishes for a Day of Recollection. We will begin with the 8:15 a.m. Mass, then proceed to the Parish Center for breakfast. The focus of the day will be the great mystery of our lives God s Will, how we can discern what God is asking us to do, and then accepting this in our lives. Any donation to cover costs would be gratefully accepted. Registration forms are available at the rectory office WEDDING ANNIVERSARY MASS RESERVATIONS If you will be celebrating a special wedding anniversary (25 th, 40 th, 50 th, 60 th, etc.) next year (2018) and would like to reserve a Mass to celebrate the occasion, you must come to the rectory office in person to schedule your request.
