3 PARISH CENTER GOAL 3.5 MILLION Through your generous giving, the project currently has 1.1 million in cash on hand with an additional 200,000 in pledges for a total of 1.3 million towards our goal. We are confident based on our conversations and financial history with the Diocese of Joliet that, once we reach 2.8 million in cash and pledges or 80% of our goal -- we will be able to secure the remaining 700,000 in the form of a loan from the Diocese and break ground on our new Parish Center. For those of you that have made a donation or pledge, we are extremely grateful for your dedication. We ask that you review your commitment and, if possible, consider an increase to your gift. Please keep in mind that the Diocese counts confirmed pledges the same as cash received. So we are well on our way to reaching our total goal of 3.5 million! Thank you for your time, dedication and generosity to the Future of our Parish Community. The opening report for the 2018 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal (CMAA) in today s bulletin details the many ways our annual appeal helps us do God s work here on earth and be His partners in caring. As you will read in the opening report, the CMAA supports thirty ministries that benefit so many throughout the Diocese of Joliet. Your gifts to the CMAA will make a difference to members of our parish, friends and neighbors, and our brothers and sisters in need. Please complete the pledge card you received from the Diocese of Joliet and return it in the provided envelope or bring it with you to Mass next weekend. Our parish s goal for the 2018 CMAA is 83,900. If we raise more than this goal, 70% of the amount paid over goal will be returned to us for our use. This is a great benefit for our parish! Thank you for prayerfully reflecting on your gift to this year s CMAA, and making the most generous pledge possible. Humans have heard that call and many choose to follow your call in varied and faithfilled lives. Some follow your call in private, silent lives as hermits; some choose to follow you with lives lived as virgins and widows; while others choose public lives of vowed men and women as religious brothers and sisters. Abundantly give to these men and women the courage to follow their call as witnesses to your gifts and faith and se vice to the world. We ask this in faith through the name of Jesus our Savior. Amen.

Adorer s Corner "The sufferings and death of our Divine Redeemer on the Cross did not satisfy the love of His Sacred Heart. When about to ascend to His Heavenly Father, His infinite power and wisdom invented a means by which He might be in Heaven with His Father and at the same time, remain here on earth with His beloved brothers and sisters. The Blessed Eucharist is this Divine intervention! It was the last and greatest expression of the burning love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus before His Passion. It was His last legacy to us in fulfillment of His promise not to leave us orphans." -taken from Devotion to the Sacred Heart- Become a registered adorer! Breakfast needs to be made and the kids dressed. Work demands our energy and additional responsibilities fill our evenings and weekends. Then there's the football game or a new TV series to stream. After all, don't we need to relax? We're all busy. But just imagine Jesus' situation in today's Gospel. He heals Peter's mother-in-law, drives out demons, and cures diseases late into the night. With very little sleep, he arises before dawn to capture some peace and quiet, only to find "those who were with him pursued him." How often do we feel pursued by the harried commitments, even when we try to seek rest? Perhaps we can learn something from the response of Jesus. Jesus models two key things: the essential nature of prayer and the essential call of vocation. "He went off to a deserted place, where he prayed." Despite inevitable exhaustion, Jesus prioritizes time with the Father. We might not have easy access to deserts and mountaintops, but today's Gospel challenges us to take intentional time set apart for God. We can designate a "prayer chair" in a corner of our home or leave a little earlier to pick our children up from school so we can snatch time in a nearby chapel. We can pray the rosary on our commute or take the dog for a long walk in silence. However, when the Apostles arrive, Jesus doesn't linger overlong in the deserted place or make an excuse for why he can't return with his friends. Jesus is true to his calling. He continues on in his state of life, serving the people nearest to him. Like Jesus, we are invited to set intentional time for communion with God so that we can be refreshed and empowered for our communion with others. 5

St. Josephine Bakhita The saints are more than lovely pictures on a holy card. If we dig a little deeper, their lives can challenge and transform our own. On February 8th, the Church celebrates St. Josephine Bakhita. As a young girl, St. Josephine was kidnapped from her family in Darfur and sold into slavery at age nine. She was introduced to Catholicism as an adolescent and experienced a profound love for Jesus Christ. St. Josephine eventually gained legal freedom and entered religious life. Though she bore over one hundred scars beneath her habit, St. Josephine forgave her enemies and became known in the convent for her humility and joyful spirit. Author Fr. Jeff Kirby writes, "Saint Josephine gives us all a scarred and human face to the evils of human trafficking, racial tension, and of the brutality found in the peripheries. Her life demands a response." As we approach the season of Lent, let us recall our own call to conversion and an active concern for those who suffer. St. Agatha According to very pious tradition and legend, St. Agatha was born in the island of Sicily on about the year 230 of noble parents and was martyred in Catania, in the year 251. When the Roman emperor Decius issued a decree persecuting Christians, the local consul Quintian (governor of Sicily), who had long harbored lustful feelings for Agatha, tried to force his attentions on her and desired to obtain her inheritance, used the opportunity to bring her to trial on suspicion of being a Christian and force her to renounce her faith. Quintian tried to break Agatha's vow of purity by having her live for a month in a brothel. All efforts to dissuade Agatha failed. Despite the pressures place upon her, Agatha survived this ordeal, placing all her trust in the power of God. The consul then ordered that she be beaten and that her breasts be crushed an cut off. Afterward, Agatha was consigned to prison where Saint Peter appeared to her in a dazzling light and healed her wounds. 6
