2 Parish Events & Information Our Lady of Fatima (Part 5) As word spread of the apparitions, more and more people came. On September 13, 1917, very large crowds converged on Fatima from all directions. When the apparition began, Our Lady spoke to Lucia saying, Continue the Rosary, my children. Say it every day that the war may end. In October Our Lord will come, as well as Our Lady of Sorrows and Our Lady of Carmel. St. Joseph will appear with the child Jesus to bless the world. God is pleased with your sacrifices. He does not want you to sleep with the rope on, but only wear it during the daytime (the children wore a rope around their waist as a way to offer penance). Lucia then asked Our Lady for cures for certain people who had asked Lucia to carry their petitions for healing. Our Lady answered, Yes, I will cure some, but not others. In October I will perform a miracle so that all may believe. Then she began to rise and disappeared. Our Lady was consistent in asking us through the Fatima children to pray the Rosary. The words of Father Andrew Apostoli help to put meaning to our St. Andrew the Apostle challenge to pray a daily rosary when possible with our family or with others: Pray daily, making the best effort you can to say it devoutly, and it will change your life forever. It will be the intercession of Our Lady with her Divine Son that will bring about the change. After all, who would not have confidence in such a loving and compassionate Mother as Our Lady? Reflection: Is there anything holding me back from saying a daily rosary? If so, what can I change? Bible Study on Ephesians Discover your Inheritance with Fr. 3 A Note From Our Pastor THE PASTOR S TEETH: GROW HAITI S CHILDREN A Pastor goes to the dentist for a set of false teeth. The first Sunday after he gets his new teeth, he talks for only eight minutes. The second Sunday, he talks for only ten minutes. The following Sunday, he talks for 2 hours and 48 minutes. The congregation had to mob him to get him down from the pulpit and they asked him what happened. The Pastor explains the first Sunday his gums hurt so bad he couldn t talk for more than 8 minutes. The second Sunday his gums hurt too much to talk for more than 10 minutes. But, the third Sunday, he put his wife s teeth in by mistake and he couldn t stop talking. Hopefully, after putting some smile on your face from this little joke from the internet, allow me to share something a little about an important aspect of our Global Outreach Ministry. You may recall that on the weekend of August 19/20, I officially launched our St. Andrew s Global Outreach Ministry (SAGOM) intended to streamline our fundraising efforts to support our not so fortunate brothers and sisters around the world. I brought our focus specifically on the two organizations we are currently supporting outside our country namely, Grow Haiti s Children and E3-Africa. These two ministries will host their first joint fundraiser dinner next month on Saturday 21st under this new umbrella. Please, stay tuned for more details. In this article however, allow me to address myself to the change we are making in donating to the Grow Haiti s Children Non-Profit. To begin with, I would like to sincerely express my gratitude and appreciation for your most generous contributions over the years, to our Church and to Grow Haiti s Children in particular. As I mentioned both in my previous writing and from the pulpit, Grow Haiti s Children is now a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization. Due this new status, it now has the legal right of receiving donations directly instead of through St. Andrew s. Therefore, effective from October 1, 2017, I encourage you to make your donations or checks directly to the organization instead of through St. Andrew the Apostle, using the following address: Grow Haiti s Children 2177 E. 4 Weekly Reflection on the Readings September 17, th Sunday in Ordinary Time Call to Prayer: We begin in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. First Reading: Sirach 27:30-28:7 Second Reading: Romans 14:7-9 Gospel: Matthew 18:21-35 Peter approached Jesus and asked him, Lord, if my brother sins against me, how often must I forgive? As many as seven times? Jesus answered, I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times. That is why the kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king who decided to settle accounts with his servants. When he began the accounting, a debtor was brought before him who owed him a huge amount. Since he had no way of paying it back, his master ordered him to be sold, along with his wife, his children, and all his property, in payment of the debt. At that, the servant fell down, did him homage, and said, Be patient with me, and I will pay you back in full. Moved with compassion the master of that servantlet him go and forgave him the loan. When that servant had left, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a much smaller amount. He seized him and started to choke him, demanding, Pay back what you owe. Falling to his knees, his fellow servant begged him, Be patient with me, and I will pay you back. But he refused. Instead, he had the fellow servant put in prison until he paid back the debt. Now when his fellow servants saw what had happened, they were deeply disturbed, and went to their master and reported the whole affair. His master summoned him and said to him, You wicked servant! I forgave you your entire debt because you begged me to. Should you not have had pity on your fellow servant, as I had pity on you? Then in anger his master handed him over to the torturers until he should pay back the whole debt. So will my heavenly Father do to you, unless each of you forgives your brother from your heart. 7 Adult Ministries/Parish Information/Events Recycling Our recycling fundraiser has ended. We now have a bin that will take all recycling but it is only for Parish use. Thank You for bringing your cardboard and paper here for the last 6 years. You helped raise many funds that helped so many. At this time, we ask that you recycle at your own homes only so our new bin does not get too full. Thank You Our Money Counting Team is looking for a volunteer who can join our team to count on Monday mornings. Knowledge of using an adding machine is preferred, but not required. You would be working with a team that rotates counting every other week. If interested in helping weekly or every other, please call the Parish Office at x101 to get the particulars of time and days. SEASONS OF HOPE Adult Bereavement Support Group Begins Monday, September 18, 2017 at 6:30 pm. Seasons of Hope is a Christ-centered support group that meets for six consecutive weeks. Any parishioner who is mourning the loss of a loved one is encouraged to attend and bring a guest. Registration fee is $20 to cover cost of Seasons of Hope journal and program materials.
