FORMED Pick of the Week All too often, science is employed as a means of disproving the tenants of Christianity. In this week s FORMED Pick of the Week, Fr. Robert Spitzer expert in physics, philosophy and theology debunks the incompatibility of science and faith as he discusses the origin of the universe. To get started, go to formed.org and enter our parish code: 9TKQCM Deacon s Corner As promised in my homily last Sunday, here is the full text of The Prayer to the Holy Spirit, which we pray at the beginning of most of our Bible Study classes: Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful. And kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And you will renew the face of the earth. Lord, by the light of the Holy Spirit you have taught the hearts of your faithful. In the same Spirit help us to relish what is right and always rejoice in your consolation. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. At the beginning of his Priest, Prophet, King course, Bishop Robert Barron suggested that we also pray the following Prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel since our spiritual progress guided by the Holy Spirit is certain to meet opposition from unholy spirits. This is the prayer we pray on weekday and Saturday mornings at the end of every Mass and Deacon Service. St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. Several slightly different translations of these prayers are in use, and all are powerful aids in our faith journey. Best of all prayers, it seems to me, is the prayer that Jesus Himself taught us, The Lord s Prayer, which Deacons must say at least twice a day as part of the Liturgy of the Hours and which is one prayer that virtually all Christians seem to have in common. 4 Faith Formation News 40 Hours of Adoration Beginning Friday, June 1 at 8:30am All are welcome! Sign up for an hour OR bring your family and stop in the church for a few minutes. Be still in the presence of Christ and pray. The first weekend in June in the Diocese of Manchester, NH is the weekend new priests are ordained. This year, 2018, we have no seminarians to ordain. So PLEASE, stop in the church and pray to know what God is calling YOU to do! Every baptized man, woman, youth, child is called by name by God. Pray for each one of us to listen and hear God s call.
