3 Saint Margaret of Scotland Parish St. Mary Star of the Sea Mission THE SHEPHERD S CORNER THE HEALING POWER OF THE OCEAN. As I write this today, I am a few days into my annual vacation at Hampton Beach in New Hampshire. This has always been a special place to me and my family. We have all been vacationing here for more than 40 years, the same cottages, the same week, since I was a child. Different people vacation in different ways. Some people need a vacation after their vacation because they use that time to go-go-go, and see-see-see. For me, vacation is a time to recharge and renew, to slow down and relax. Being by the ocean is the most renewing thing I can think of. Ironically, I m often up earlier in the morning than I am during the rest of the year. The sound of the waves, the sunrise on the water, the quiet of the beach at dawn are all so engaging, and as prayerful a place as our church on a summer s morn. I love sitting on the deck of the cottage and watch the sun come up with a nice cup of coffee, praying my morning prayer, praying for all of you as your shepherd. There will be one or two people dotting the landscape, walking their dogs, or even taking a sunrise dip in the cold ocean. There is something powerful in the salt air that makes it feel as though you are breathing oxygen for the first time. FLOWER COMMITTEE SEEKING PARTICIPATION Join our summer ministry, by bringing a single stem from your garden to place at the Altar before Sunday Mass. How It Works: Each Sat. pm/sun, running through August 26, a flower committee member will place three water-filled containers in front of the altar. Place your offering in one of the containers. Dates at: St. John s in Pocasset All Saturdays from 5pm to 7:30pm, after 4pm Mass or until the fish runs out: Aug. 18, Sept. 29. Cost for the entire meal: $12!!! PARISH MEN'S GROUP FATHER S CLUB Deacon Thomas Hanlon, parishioner, retired businessman, Captain in USMC, and former prison minister, will moderate a Men's Group, every Tuesday morning at 10:30 am beginning on July 10. The group will meet in school library. Open to all men of the parish, this group will hold discussions of faith and family to help you grow in your spiritual life. If interested, contact the parish Office (508) ONSET FIREWORKS PARKING AT ST. MARY'S On Saturday, July 7, we will offer all day parking at the St. Mary's parking lot in Onset. The cost will be $10. We'll also offer burgers, hot dogs, and cold water to recharge for a night of fireworks fun. FACE SUMMER GALA TO SUPPORT CATHOLIC SCHOOLS SCHOLARSHIP FUND The 21 st annual FACE Summer Gala to support Catholic school students is set for Friday, July 13, at the Willowbend Country Club in Mashpee. The Summer Gala will include a delicious dinner, live auction, mystery raffle and more. Boston TV and radio personality Billy Costa, host of NESN s Dining Playbook, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.
