1 Graphics Design Standard Effective January 2014

2 Table of Contents The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver has developed a graphic design standard that will be used to visually identify and unify all Archdiocesan promotions and communications. This manual contains simple explanations and guidelines for the use of the RCAV logo. 3 Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver Logo Heraldic Rose Symbolizes the Cathedral s dedication to Our Lady of the Holy Rosary. Precious Mitre: Standard element of diocesan armorial bearings. Dogwood : Floral symbol of the province of British Columbia. Chi-Ro: Represents the Greek Monogram for Christ. Full Sail Denotes the Church in its Vigour. Three chevron shapes Stylized heraldic rendering of mountains, the backdrop to the city of Vancouver. The three represent Hollyburn, Grouse and Seymour mountaintops. Waves Reflect proximity to the ocean. Net Cast Overboard Highlights the Petrine symbolism. Recalls Matthew 4:18. Main Element: Ship in Sail Represents the barque of Peter. Recalls the coat of arms of the City of New Westminster, where the diocese was founded, and of Vancouver, where the Archdiocese is seated.

5 Introducing the Four Versions of the RCAV Logo Full-Colour: This is the full colour-cmyk file To be used with blue font colour for text In some applications (ie: folders, posters, displays or advertisements) It may be effective to have the logo appear on a light, solid-coloured background. Full-Colour Reverse: This is the full_colour_reversecmyk file, which has a full-colour coat-of-arms and white type. To be used on dark, solid-coloured backgrounds. Please note: background is not included in the logo file.

6 Introducing the Four Versions of the RCAV Logo One-Colour: This is the 1_colour-cmyk file If you are printing in one colour please use this version One-Colour Reverse: This is the 1_colour_reverse-cmyk file This is to be used on black (or dark backgrounds) being printed in limited colours Please note: background is not included in the logo file.

7 Introducing the RCAV Logo for Offices A version of the RCAV Logo has also been created for each office and is available in four different versions: (1) Full-Colour; (2) Full- Colour Reverse; (3) One-Colour; (4) One-Colour Reverse.

8 Introducing the Square Version of the RCAV Logo The intended use for the Square Version of the RCAV crest is for Merchandise purposes (ex. Branding mugs). If you would like to use it for other purposes, please check with the Communications Office for proper usage. (ie. Programs and prayer cards)

9 Guidelines for Positioning of the RCAV Logo Please Note that there is no restriction on the absolute positioning of the RCAV logo on all materials. However, a reasonable amount of spacing around the logo is expected.

10 Additional Guidelines 1. Appropriate Use of RCAV Logo: To be used specifically for all Archdiocesan Initiatives and Events and/or Co-sponsored events The RCAV logo should NOT be used for any non-archdiocesan events All Parishes are to refrain from using the RCAV logo 2. Authenticity of the RCAV logo: Elements of the RCAV logo should not be altered, modified or substituted The RCAV logo should always be used together in exactly the same scale, spacing and colour as provided RCAV logo should be clearly visible 3. Fonts / Backgrounds : Please avoid untraditional and scripted fonts Please avoid background images or patterns Please send all materials for review to the Communications Office communications@rcav.org prior to printing.
