2 ST. THERESA PARISH MISSION The mission of St. Theresa Parish is to share Christ with others through the sacraments, education, prayer and service. Contact Deacon Larry Schumacher at ext. 363 regarding the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) sacrament for adults. Are you a baptized, adult Catholic who has not received the Sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation and wish to? Please call! VISITATION OF THE SICK If you or a family member are in a local hospital and would like a visit from a priest, please call the Parish Office. Those who are homebound can also make arrangements to receive communion on a regular basis by calling the Ministry of Care, SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION Saturdays at 12:30-1:30 p.m. or by appointment. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Baptism is celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on the first and third Sundays of the month. Parents must take part in preparation classes before the Baptism takes place, and are required to attend the classes before the baby is born. Please call the Parish Office to make arrangements. SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY Arrangements must be made at least six months in advance. Please call the Parish Office to make an appointment with a priest. No other plans should be finalized until then. SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK This sacrament offers the Lord's healing strength and peace to anyone who is seriously or chronically ill, hospitalized or about to have surgery. St Theresa parishioners responded so generously to the request to provide gift cards to brighten the Christmas season for the homeless and pregnant/ parenting teens at Palatine and Fremd High Schools. This year the churches of Palatine Faith in Action collected over 16 thousand dollars in small denomination gift cards to dozens of restaurants and retail establishments in town. St Theresa parishioners contributed over seven thousand dollars of gift cards to this effort. Because of your generosity, 115 students will each receive a gift pack with $100 in gift cards, personal hygiene items. and an encouraging note hand written by a member of one of the churches. These gift bags will be put together by Palatine Assisting Through Hope ( and then given to the social workers at the high schools who will hand them out to each individual student. In case you re doing the math, you ll realize that some gift cards will be left over. Those cards will be used either by the social workers at the high schools to help out students throughout the remainder of the year who are facing unexpected homelessness or other emergencies or the social workers at the elementary schools to help homeless families they serve. Thanks again for your generosity allowing the churches in Palatine to be the arms and legs and face of Jesus to those in need in our community. 3 A Message from Our Pastor, Fr. Tim Fairman Dear Friends, There are a few odds and ends that I d like to share with you this week: This Tuesday evening, December 18th, you are invited to attend our Advent Mission and Concert, The Image and the Veiled, which begins with refreshments at 6:00 and the mission and concert at 7:00pm. Last year s mission was outstanding and this year s program looks to be even better. I heartily encourage you to attend on Tuesday. It ll knock your socks off and provide you with the perfect setting to escape the maddening holiday rush and spend some quality time with the Lord in music and prayer. I d like to offer my thanks in advance to our Music Director, Laura Kutscher and Fr. Matt Jamesson for all of their extra work and effort in coordinating this beautiful experience of prayer. We are able to provide opportunities like this mission and concert to you because of the generosity of our Patrons of Music program here at St. Theresa. This is a program in which our parishioners and friends are invited to give financial support to help pay for added musicians who provide voice and musical accompaniment to our worship experiences as well as help pay for the added music scores required. Your generous donations help us to ensure that we will be able to continue to provide extra musical resourcing when needed. Donor envelopes can be found in the Gathering Space of the church or you may donate through Give Central. I thank you in advance for your continued and generous support of St. Theresa Parish. On Wednesday evening, December 19th, you are invited to participate in our Advent Parish Reconciliation Service, which will include the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession). Advent and Lent are our two great seasons of preparation in the life of the Church and I can think of no better way to prepare than to bring our sins to the Lord and celebrate God s infinite mercy and love which is the grace of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Whether it s been a few days or several years since you last went to confession, now is a good time to bring your sins to the sacrament and receive absolution. There will be six priests available that night to hear your confession you will also have the opportunity to go face to face or anonymously in the confessional, so please feel comfortable in participating in the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Wednesday night you ll be glad you did! On Thursday evening, December 20th, you are invited to be a part of our Music Ministry s Christmas Carol Sing-a-long at 7:00 pm in the Church. Our choirs will share some of the music they have been planning for Christmas and you will be invited to sing-a-long with some of the treasured Christmas carols of the season. This is a great event for young and old alike and will put that sparkle of anticipation in your eye as we draw closer and closer to Christmas! In my article on the First Sunday of Advent, I invited you to adopt some Spiritual Resolutions as we began the new Church year. We are now beginning the third week of Advent. Were you able to commit to any spiritual resolutions for this new year? If so, how are things going? If you weren t able to commit to spiritual resolutions, it is not too late. We still have a little over a week to go before Christmas. I continue to encourage you to make this year special in your relationship with Jesus. The events listed above will assist you in that endeavor, but I invite you to make a more permanent effort in improving your relationship with the Lord so that you may experience the benefits of a stronger union with God, which includes eternal life in heaven! Your Key to Heaven The Holy Rosary The Knights of Columbus will lead the Rosary after 11:30 Mass (approximately around 12:30pm) every Sunday in the Day Chapel. You have the opportunity to pray the Rosary together with others. So come on your own, or bring the family. The rosary is also prayed daily after 6:30am and 8:00am Masses. 9 Ministry of Care The Ministry of Care office is the central point in our parish community for outreach, resources and referrals. Deacon Stephen Norys, Coordinator OUR ANNUAL CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE During Advent we have the opportunity to realize the deeper purpose of gift-giving through the custom of having a Giving Tree in our church. The Ministry of Care, the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent DePaul, St. Theresa Women s Club, and the children from St. Theresa School and Religious Education arrange to have certificates for food, clothing or toys placed in the Christmas baskets which will be distributed on December 22nd this year. The Giving Tree can help to link Christmas gift-giving to the Christian love that marks all those who follow the One born at Bethlehem. HERE S HOW YOU CAN HELP! 1. Take an envelope from the Giving Tree in our Gathering Area. Put your gift in the envelope. The gift can be cash, a gift certificate or a check made out to: St. Theresa Ministry of Care. 2. Return your envelope in the regular collection basket or drop it off at the Pauline Center. 3. We will buy a gift certificate from Eurofresh, Target, Jewel, or Payless Shoes. 4. The gift certificate will be placed in the Assist-A-Family Christmas baskets for the needy in our parish and the surrounding community to be distributed on December 22nd in the church Gathering Area. OR... YOU CAN HELP A LOCAL FAMILY THROUGH OUR CHRISTMAS ASSIST-A-FAMILY BY GIVING THE GIFT OF FOOD!
