1 Confraternity Herald Issue 80 February 2019 The Journal of the Confraternity of the Knights of St Peter & St Paul Greeting from Melbourne Dear Confreres and friends of the Confraternity, One month after another and we are getting close to June to commemorate the feast of St. Peter and Paul. But first we have to go through the sadness that Good Friday brings with it; the Crucifixion of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. God willing in June, I will be in Nadur, Gozo, to celebrate with our members in the festivities of St. Peter and Paul. The Grand Prior of Germany, Chevalier Peter Michael Neuen, his wife Chancellor Gabrielle Neuen, and hopefully other members will join us to celebrate and donate money to the Catholic Mission of St. Martin de Porres in Iquitos, Peru. The mission is run by priest and Doctor Fr. Raymond Portelli. This year in Melbourne, the annual celebration to commemorate the feast of our patron saints Peter and Paul, has been brought forward to Sunday 26 th May, before I leave to go to Europe. I hope to hear that some of the chapters will be having some kind of commemoration, either in a Mass or some other gathering. I look forward to hear your plans for this year s celebrations. God bless you in St. Peter and Paul. Chevalier Peter Paul Portelli Grand Master Grand Master s visit to Portugal The Grand Master Chevalier Peter Paul Portelli and Dame Mary Portelli should arrive in Portugal on the 5 th July for a four day visit to Lisbon, Porto and Fatima. If anyone is interested to join them in Portugal, please inform the Grand Master, so your intention can be passed on to the Deputy Grand Master Prof. Chevalier Jose M Ferreira Coelho in Portugal. 2 Helping the Australian Farmers In the next issue of the Confraternity Herald we give you a full report in pictures of the donations we gave to help the Australian farmers who are going through a difficult time at the present moment. Grand Chapter of Germany By Chevalier Peter M Neuen Grand Prior Dear Grand Master, thank you for the certificates for the new members, I will hand them out at the end of May in Mannheim. 3 Presentation of Cloths On Friday, 20th February 2019, Chancellor Dame Gabriele Neuen, presented a shopping cart with four large bags of used clothing to the store manager Mrs. Friedrich of Fair Kauf, a second hand department store for the needy people in Neustadt. Here, less fortunate people can buy used clothes and household items for less money. With ith the income generated, it will create jobs for handicapped people. Well done Chancellor Dame Gabriele Neuen. Feast of St. Peter and St Paul in Rome Date 29 June; Observed by the universal church; Orthodox Church, Catholic Church, Oriental Orthodoxy, Church of England, etc. The feast is observed in Rome because St. Paul and St. Peter are patron saints of the eternal city. It is also a public holiday Rome and many countries around the world. St. Peter and Paul, patron of Rome and of the Romans The Feast of Saints Peter and Paul or Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul is a liturgical feast in honour of their martyrdom in Rome. It is observed on 29th June. On that day the two patrons of the city are celebrated. The most important moment of the celebration takes place in the Basilica of St. Peter with a solemn mass attended by Cardinals and the Patriarch of Constantinople and in the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls.
