Once again our nation is in mourning over senseless killings. Country singer Jason Aldean was on stage when the shots began. I feel his post massacre comments say it best and are worth printing for all to read or to read again. Over the last 24 hours I have gone through lots of emotions. Scared, anger, heartache, compassion and many others. I truly don t understand why a person would want to take the life of another. Something has changed in this country and in this world lately that is scary to see. This world is becoming the kind of place I am afraid to raise my children in. At the end of the day we aren t Democrats or Republicans, whites or blacks, men or women. We are all humans and we are all Americans and it s time to start acting like it and stand together as ONE! That is the only way we will ever get this country to be better than it has ever been, but we have a long way to go and we have to start now. My heart aches for the victims and their families of this senseless act. I am so sorry for the hurt and pain everyone is feeling right now and there are no words I can say to take that pain away. Just know you all are in my heart and my prayers as we all go through this together. Time to come together and stop the hate! During Respect Life Month, echoing his words, let us pray for all of those affected by this tragic event AND for our country that the wounds that divide will be healed.

Jan Assigned to St. Emilian Church Father Jan received notification this week from Bishop Milan that he will become the Administrator at St. Emilian Church in Brunswick effective November 1. His final weekend here will be October 21/22. You will have the opportunity following the Sunday liturgy to wish him and his family farewell. Father has been with us since February 5 of Fr. Bruce Attending Planning Meeting Father Bruce will be in Phoenix this week for a Youth Ministry Meeting to discuss plans for the 2018 Youth Rally (July 5-8 at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa.). He will leave on Monday and return Saturday. In case of an emergency, contact Fr. Jan Cizmar ( ) or Deacon Bill Fredrick ( ). The National Forty Days for Life program is scheduled September 27 through November 5. As part of this you are welcome to join in a Rosary for the Unborn prior to the weekend liturgies. There will also be a Pro-Life Moleben prayer service on October 12 at 7:00 led by Deacon Bill Fredrick. Octogenarian Sunday Next weekend, as part of Respect Life Month, we will honor our Octogenarians (members of the parish eighty years of age and older). Those attending are asked to be in the vestibule by 10:15 (chairs will be provided) in order to get matched up with one of our ByzanTEEN escorts (teens please be generous with your time when asked). The honorees will receive Communion as a group and then head downstairs for a breakfast arranged by the A-OK Club. (RSVP s are due by tomorrow.) Respect Life Project As part of Respect Life Month our Right to Life Coordinators annually propose a project that the entire parish can support. This year a decision was made to reach out to the Myers family of Brecksville. Kelly recently gave birth to quadruplets to increase their family size to eight kids. A playpen is situated in the vestibule where you can place any of the following items: diapers (sizes 2-5); wipes; laundry soap (no dyes or perfumes); baby wash; and gift cards to stores for formula.
4 Faith Night for young adults, sponsored by the group at St. Basil in Brecksville, will meet here Faith Night on October 19. Father Bruce will be explaining the Byzantine Rite and how the Church breathes with both lungs (East and West). Let s have a good representation of our own segment (18-35 year olds). The Week Ahead The A-OK Club will meet on Monday at 7:00. The BLESS Group will meet on Monday, 7:00, in the Education Center. The Men s Fellowship & Book Group will meet on Monday, 7:00, in the Education Center. The Men s Club and Ladies Auxiliary will hold their respective meetings on Tuesday at 7:00. Sandwich Making will take place on Saturday, 9:30, in the Education Center. Choir An organizational session for the choir with Director Theresa Plishka will take place on October 29, 9:30, in the hall. Anyone Interested in singing should plan on attending. (If you would like to be a part of the choir but can t make this meeting, contact Theresa at Theresa.plishka@gmail.com.) The next A.C.E. (Adult Catholic Education) presentation is Tuesday, 7:00, at St. Michael Church in Independence. Dr. John Wood will speak on Ordinary Lives, Extraordinary Mission: Winning the War Within. (He is the author of the book by this title published by Dynamic Catholic and has spoken around the country.) A free will offering will be taken. Refreshments will be served. If you have any questions, contact our A.C.E. representative Barbara Fortlage at Ladies Auxiliary Fundraisers The Ladies Auxiliary has a couple of fundraising events in motion. They once again will be selling PartyLite jar candles and flameless Smart Scents. Orders will be taken during the coffee/donut social on Sundays through November 5 (or by contacting any Auxiliary member). Make plans to attend the soup/salad/chili luncheon right after the Sunday liturgy on November 5. Attorney General Mike DeWine will speak on Being a Catholic Politician in Today s Culture on October 16 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Granger Rd. at 7 p.m. The St. Basil Adult Singles Group (Brecksville) is holding a Halloween Dance on October 21 from 7:30-11:30 in the Gym. When you are kicked out of the home for being too healthy, you spend several years enjoying your retirement and collecting benefit checks. When you start to work, you get a gold watch on your first day. You work 40 years or so, getting younger every day until pretty soon you re too young to work. In a few years, you become a baby and everyone runs themselves ragged keeping you happy.
