3 Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 15, 2017 Last Sunday, those of us at Community Sunday had quite an experience. At the end of our excellent lunch, we began to watch a documentary about a recent miracle involving the Eucharist in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The first half of the 14-minute video explained the incredible details which I have summarized below. The second half is a recap of the miracle by an American priest which helped all of us to know exactly what happened. As someone in our crowd said, you could hear a pin drop while the video was playing. It was very moving! I explained to the group that this is part of our new family evangelization. The idea is for you, the faithful parishioners of Assumption, to send this video to your family members. Much of the discussion after the documentary centered on exactly how to do that. We explained that the video is posted on the parish s website, and that you can direct your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, siblings and others there. Or, you can copy and paste this link - and it to them. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us in the rectory at any time. All of us were amazed at what the video showed. The physical evidence proves that Jesus is truly and really present in the Eucharist it s really His flesh and blood! We have taken that on in faith all of our lives, but this miracle (which has not yet been formally approved by the Church) helps us so much to know without a doubt that it s real. Jesus continues to perform miracles to help our faith, and He will help the faith of your family members with this incredible event. We ve already received feedback from some parishioners that their families are very interested in this video. 4 In 1996, a consecrated Host was found in a church in Buenos Aires. The priest found the dirty Host and put it in water to dissolve it (per canon law). A week later, he was amazed to see that the Host had turned into a bloody piece of meat. Under the instruction of Cardinal Bergoglio (now Pope Francis), they kept a close eye on the Host for three years; there was still no decay in it. So, they sent a small sample to a lab for tests, and the scientists didn t know from where it came. The results indicated that the sample was muscle tissue from a human heart! It was from a man who lived in the Middle East and died a terrible death that involved torture. As amazing as this was in itself, the DNA and blood type of this sample matched exactly with that of another miracle (Lanciano) many years before. And, the sample showed living and moving cells. Incredible! Here are some more of the specifics from ncregister.com: Dr. Frederick Zugibe, a renowned cardiologist and forensic pathologist, testified that (the sample) was a fragment of the heart muscle found in the wall of the left ventricle close to the valves. Because white blood cells had penetrated the tissue, he stated that the heart had been under severe stress, as if the owner had been beaten severely about the chest. Author Tesoriero actually witnessed these tests, along with Mike Wilesee, a wellknown Australian journalist. Wilesee asked the scientist how long white blood cells can remain alive from a piece of human tissue kept in water. Zugibe told them it would last a matter of minutes. When he learned it had been in water for more than three years, Zugibe was amazed and said that the cells from the sample were moving and beating as a heart would, so there was no way to scientifically explain his findings. Then Gomez arranged to compare those lab reports with the ones from the Eucharistic miracle of Lanciano, Italy. That miracle took place during the eighth century. A priestmonk suffered from doubts about Transubstantiation, wondering if the bread and wine really did become the Body and Blood of Christ. He prayed for help believing it was true. At the Consecration of one of his Masses, the Host changed into a circle of flesh, and the wine became blood before the eyes of numerous witnesses. The Host-turnedflesh and the wine-turned-blood, without the use of any form of preservative, are still

5 present more than 1,300 years later in a reliquary at St. Francis Church in Lanciano. They have been scientifically tested a number of times, with the last one being in Again, without revealing the origin of the test samples, the experts compared the Buenos Aires lab reports with those from Lanciano. They concluded that the reports must be from the same samples. Both samples revealed an AB -positive blood type, which occurs in 5% of the population. The DNA is identical, and there are features to indicate that the man came from the Middle East. (It is also noteworthy that these lab results match up with those from the Shroud of Turin and the Cloth of Oviedo.)

God is always patiently loving his children and opening the doors to his heart. We must, however, freely choose to accept God's invitation and join in the feast of his love. We desire many things and we have restless hearts. We often attempt to quench our desire with things that are short-lived and shallow. All of us long to be satisfied and at peace. How do we announce to the world, in ways that are convincing and without judgment, that it is really God whom we seek?
