1 St. Austin Catholic Church Parish Finance May 7, 2018 Meeting Summary Attendees: Fr. Chuck, Berta Smoak, Jennifer Anderson, Trish Dolese (Chair), Scott Carruth, Mario Espinoza, Ken Mills Absent: Carter Breed, Nick Dyer, Randy Hagman, Ida Malina Review Current Financials Berta reviewed the financials and noted that we continue to be in a good position. The salary savings from the Liturgy position has provided a cushion and we continue to fund our savings for unexpected maintenance and repairs ($50k annually). Stewardship Update Jennifer provide an update on the recently concluded annual stewardship renewal. We did not see as many of our regulars return pledges. Jennifer is working to identify that list. Fr. Chuck would like the Finance Council to make phone calls to parishioners thanking them for the participation in the offertory appeal. Jennifer is to draft a script for such use. DOA Capital Campaign Jennifer provided an update on the DOA campaign. St. Austin s has been placed in the second wave meaning we start in January The parish receives 30% of all funds raised. Our goal is set at $2M, which means the parish stands to received $600k. We need to develop our campaign mission statement (that identifies the purposes to which we d direct our funds). Property Update Berta provided a rental update. White Lodging has taken over the Hotel Ella space. Several of their subcontractors continue to look at the Subway space. White Lodging has also expressed interest in obtaining more parking in the garage. TBDG has not yet replied to our lease amendment which would reduce their lease to 45 spaces. The Diocese, in responding to our letter seeking clarity on our new loan, has offered to restructure payments already made on the Guadalupe and MLK land notes this fiscal year in an attempt to reduce our income tax liability for this year. As a refresher, we owed approximately $38k in taxes last fiscal year, largely resulting from the profit turned by the MLK garage. The profit stemmed from the payoff of the 5 year bridge note with capital campaign funds, thereby reducing the income expense for the garage. There being confusion as to what the DOA was proposing, it was decided that Trish and Berta should meet with the DOA to get clarification. FY2019 Budget Presentation and Discussion Berta walked through the budget for next year, noting deviations from last year s budget. No proposals were advanced by staff this year for increases to budget, so our exercise this year is just trying to ensure that the budget accurately reflects anticipated costs. With several clarifications as to those expectations surrounding the clergy and liturgy budgets, the Finance Council adopted the budget, granting Berta permission to make non-substantive changes and corrections prior to submission to the DOA. Next Meetings: June 4 th to avoid Memorial Day.
