And blessed be God s kingdom, now and forever. Amen. The Collect for Purity Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. 3

4 Gloria in excelsis Deo NEW PLAINSONG The Collect of the Day The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. Almighty God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ is the light of the world: Grant that your people, illumined by your Word and Sacraments, may shine with the radiance of Christ's glory, that he may be known, worshipped, and obeyed to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and forever. Amen. Please sit First Reading Isaiah 62: 1-5 A Reading from the Book of Isaiah For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until her vindication shines out like the dawn, and her salvation like a burning torch. The nations shall see your vindication, and all the kings your glory; and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will give. You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. You shall no more be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate; but you shall be called My Delight Is in Her, and your land Married; for the Lord delights in you, and your land shall be married. For as a young man marries a young woman, so shall your builder marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you. Hear what the spirit is saying to God s people. Thanks be to God. 4

5 PSALM 36:5-10 Tone 5 Your love, O Lord, reaches to the / heavens * and your faith/fulness to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the strong mountains, your justice like the great / deep; * you save both / man and beast, O Lord How priceless is your love, O / God! * your people take refuge under the / shadow of your wings. They feast upon the abundance of your / house; * you give them drink from the ri/ver of your delights. For with you is the / well of life, * and in your / light we see light. Continue your loving-kindness to those who / know you, * and your favor to those / who are true of heart. Alleluia The Cantor sings the Alleluia, all repeat it South African, Arranged by Gobingca Mxadana Gospel John 2:1-11 The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John. Glory to you, Lord Christ. On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine." And Jesus said to her, "Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come." His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." Now standing there were six stone water jars for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to them, "Fill the jars with water." And they filled them up to the brim. He said to them, "Now draw some out, and take it to the chief steward." So they took it. When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward called the bridegroom and said to him, "Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now." Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ. 5

Amen. 7

8 O God, who wonderfully created, and yet more wonderfully restored, the dignity of human nature: Grant that we may share the divine life of him who humbled himself to share our humanity, your Son Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. The Peace The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you. Please sit Greetings and Announcements Offertory Anthem Glory be to the Father Thomas Tomkins Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost: As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Alleluia. The Holy Communion Please stand The Lord is here. His Spirit is with us. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give God thanks and praise. Blessed are you, Lord God, our light and our salvation; to you be glory and praise for ever. From the beginning you have created all things and all your works echo the silent music of your praise. In the fullness of time you made us in your image, the crown of all creation. You give us breath and speech, that with angels and archangels, and all the powers of heaven we may find a voice to sing your praise: 8

9 Sanctus & Benedictus Holy, holy, holy Lord American Folk Melody How wonderful the work of your hands, O Lord. As a mother tenderly gathers her children, you embraced a people as your own. When they turned away and rebelled your love remained steadfast. From them you raised up Jesus our Savior, born of Mary, to be the living bread, in whom all our hungers are satisfied. He offered his life for sinners, and with a love stronger than death he opened wide his arms on the cross. On the night before he died, he came to supper with his friends and, taking bread, he gave you thanks. He broke it and gave it to them, saying: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me. At the end of supper, taking the cup of wine, he gave thanks to you and said: Drink this, all of you, this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. Father, we plead with confidence his sacrifice made once for all upon this cross; we remember his dying and rising in glory, and we rejoice that he intercedes for us at your right hand. Pour out your Holy Spirit as we bring before you these gifts of your creations; may they be for us the body and blood of your dear Son. As we eat and drink these holy things in your presence, form us in the likeness of Christ, and build us into a living temple to your glory. Bring us at the last with all the saints to the vision of that eternal splendor for which you have created us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, by whom, with whom, and in whom, with all who stand before you in earth and heaven, we worship you, Father almighty, in songs of everlasting praise: Blessing and honor and glory and power be yours forever and ever. Amen. 9

10 As our Savior taught us, so we pray: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. The Breaking of the Bread and Invitation to Communion We break this bread to share in the Body of Christ. We who are many are one Body, for we all share in the one Bread. Communion Anthem The Lord is my shepherd Maurice Greene The Lord is my shepherd, therefore can I want nothing, he shall feed me in green pastures, and lead me forth beside the waters of comfort. He shall convert my soul, and bring me in the paths of righteousness for his names sake. Psalm 23 Please stand Post-Communion Prayer Let us pray. God of abundance, you have fed us with the bread of life and cup of salvation; you have united us with Christ and one another; and you have made us one with all your people in heaven and on earth. Now send us forth in the power of your Spirit, that we may proclaim you redeeming love to the world and continue for ever in the risen life of Christ our Savior. Amen. Please sit Birthdays and Anniversaries O God, our times are in your hand: Look with favor, we pray, on your servants as they begin another year. Grant that they may grow in wisdom and grace and strengthen their trust in your goodness all the days of their life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Please stand Blessing 10
