Troparion of the Prophet Elias (Tone 4) he incarnate Angel and the Prophets summit and boast, the T forerunner of the second coming of Christ our God, Elias the glorious, from above sent down his grace upon Elisha; he doth cast out sickness and doth also cleanse lepers; and unto all that honour him, he poureth forth streams of cures. Kontakion of the Transfiguration (Tone 7) hou wast transfigured on the mountain, O Christ God, and thy T disciples beheld Thy glory as far as they could bear it; so that when they would behold thee crucified, they would understand that thy passion was voluntary and would proclaim to the world that thou art truly the Radiance of the Father.

5 Prokeimenon in Tone 2 (from Psalm 117): The Lord is my strength and my song, and He is become my Salvation. With chastisement hath the Lord chastened me, but He hath not given me over unto death. The Reading is from the First Epistle of the Holy Apostle Paul to the Corinthians 9:2-12 rethren, you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord. This is my B defense to those who would examine me. Do we not have the right to our food and drink? Do we not have the right to be accompanied by a wife, as the other apostles and the brothers of the Lord and Cephas? Or is it only Barnabas and I who have no right to refrain from working for a living? Who serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard without eating any of its fruit? Who tends a flock without getting some of the milk? Do I say this on human authority? Does not the law say the same? For it is written in the law of Moses, You shall not muzzle an ox when it is treading out the grain. Is it for oxen that God is concerned? Does he not speak entirely for our sake? It was written for our sake, because the plowman should plow in hope and the thresher thresh in hope of a share in the crop. If we have sown spiritual good among you, is it too much if we reap your material benefits? If others share this rightful claim upon you, do not we still more? Nevertheless, we have not made use of this right, but we endure anything rather than put an obstacle in the way of the gospel of Christ. Alleluia Verses in Tone 2 (from Psalm 19) The Lord hear thee in the day of affliction; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee. O Lord, save the king, and hearken unto us in the day when we call upon Thee. The Holy Gospel St. Matthew 18:23-35 he Lord spoke this parable: The kingdom of heaven may be T compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants. When he began the reckoning, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents; and as he could not pay, his lord ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made. So the servant fell on his knees, imploring him, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay you everything. And out of pity for him the lord of that servant released him and forgave him the debt. But that same servant, as he went out, came upon one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and seizing him by the throat he said, Pay what you owe. So his fellow servant fell down and besought him, Have patience with me, and I will pay you. He refused and went and put him in prison till he should pay the debt. When his fellow servants saw what had taken

6 place, they were greatly distressed, and they went and reported to their lord all that had taken place. Then his lord summoned him and said to him, You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you besought me; and should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you? And in anger his lord delivered him to the jailers, till he should pay all his debt. So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart. These names come from the parish dyptichs the record of those who have been buried from St. Elias. May their memory be eternal.. At the Divine Liturgy during the Great Entrance, we normally commemorate only Orthodox Christians by name among the living and departed since this is the Church praying for the Church. Non-Orthodox are remembered liturgically in prayers at Vespers and other intercessory services of the Church.

7 On Receiving Holy Communion in the Orthodox Church: Only Orthodox Christians who are prepared through prayer, fasting, and a recent sacramental confession should approach the Chalice for the Eucharist. The Orthodox Church does not practice open communion and has no intercommunion with other churches (non-orthodox). If you have any questions concerning this, please talk to one of the priests before taking communion. And Remember to receive Holy Communion, one should be present at the Divine Liturgy no later than the time for the Epistle and Gospel readings. We feed both our minds and our hearts as part of the Orthodox Christian life. To feast on the Lord without listening to his words is disrespectful. And remember, help clean up afterwards on your Sunday Second Campus Update On July 10th we received approval from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for our building project - a potentially big hurdle that has now been crossed successfully! The City of Austin is continuing its review of our Site Plan which is the final step needed before construction can begin. We are also working diligently on an Easement Agreement with our Storage Mart neighbors which will allow us to tie into their water line - this agreement once reached will save approximately $45K in water line fees. Continued prayers are appreciated.

8 Did You Know? As with most of the items used in the Orthodox Church, the censer is symbolic and meaningful. The censer consists of four chains. Three represent the Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The fourth chain, which raises and lowers the cover, represents the human and Godly nature of the Son. The lower cup represents earth and the upper cup heaven. In Greek and Antiochian traditions, there are 12 bells hung along these chains representing the voices of the 12 Apostles (usually there are no bells in the Slavic tradition). There are also 72 links in the chains representing 72 evangelists. The censer is used by the priest/deacon to venerate all four sides of the altar, the holy gifts, the clergy, the icons, the congregation, and the church structure itself. Chanter s Workshop Frs.
