5 All Are One Interspiritual Prayer Alliance Sunday, February 26, p.m. "Oneness is not a miracle. It is the DIVERSITY of the ONE that is the miracle." Reshad Field "The Last Barrier" The above quotation best describes our vision. We desire to participate in this kind of "miracle" by coming together to experience our diverse and beautiful Oneness via shared prayer and forgiveness. Our vision is to bring the diversity of the many into the realm of the One of which we are all part. All of our traditions encourage us toward prayer as an essential aspect of our faith journey. Through our joined prayer we will seek Divine guidance for the healing of ourselves, our families, our communities, our nation, and our world. Please join us as we bring together our traditions, affirm one another, and join in sacred reading, music, prayer and heart meditation. Quaker Meeting House ~ 171 East 4800 South, Salt Lake City For further information, please call Clare Julian Women's Book Club Mar 7th, 6:30 pm at St. James Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End by Atul Gawande Women's Retreat Saturday, March 11, 2017, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm, at St. James. The Episcopal Church Women invite all women of the Diocese of Utah to join us in an afternoon of respite, fellowship, and friendship. Reverend Mary Janda of St. Stephen's will lead us
6 as we explore the roots of our faith and common elements shared with our Jewish & Muslim sisters. Reverend Nancy Groshart of Good Shepherd will teach us to use Christian Yoga to enrich our spiritual lives. Lunch will be provided. Suggested donation $15-checks and credit cards accepted. Bring your yoga mats. RSVP: Linda Garner Spring Fling! by Angela Micklos We all know the old saying one man's trash is another man's treasure. It's true, and it's time to clean out your closets and drawers for silent auction items for the Spring Fling on April 29th. All silent auction proceeds will benefit The Road Home, The VOA, The Granite Education Foundation, The Fourth Street Clinic, and possibly other local charities. We'd be most grateful if each St. James family would donate two or three items. Auction items may be tangible things such as pottery, art, gift certificates, event tickets, vacation spots, or the special gift of your time and talent. (Make sure items aren't damaged.) Who wouldn't love learning to fly fish, cook ethnic foods, or pair wine and cheese/chocolate? Truly anything goes, so use your imagination. If you experience a brain cramp, you can always buy and donate a gift card to a popular restaurant or store. Additionally, we have amazing local vendors who generously donate items. If you'd like to approach a business, we have both a donation letter and acknowledgement form to accompany your request. If you're planning to contact a local business for a donation, please do so quickly, as many require several weeks' notice. Some items from last year include: multiple wine and food baskets, furniture, art, a "mystery treasure chest," vacation time at a private residence in Costa Rica, a timeshare in Park City, private time at a cabin in southern Utah, cooking lessons, jewelry, spa treatments at the Kura Door holistic Japanese spa, Pilates classes, pedicure certificates, dining at Rodizio Grill and Market Street Grill, fly fishing lessons, golf at Hidden Valley Country Club, and dinner with Bishop Hayashi. This is just the tip of the iceberg, but let's see if we can make 2017 even better! An auction donation table will be manned each week between March 5th and April 23rdafter both the 8:00 and 10:00 services. The earlier you can bring your items, the better. Things get incredibly hectic the week leading
7 up to the fling. To assist auction item organizers, please provide a suggested value for each donation item. Thank you! Please see or Angela Micklos (a.micklos@comcast.net) if you need more information or if you're willing to assist setting up auction tables on the day of the event. Many hands make light work! FYI, a separate article about tickets will be published in a future newsletter, but if you have questions, please contact Kevon Charles or Nancy Tanner. Proceeds from ticket and beverage sales will directly benefit St. James. Prayer for Ephiphany; 150th Diocesan Anniversary Gracious God, our guiding Light, during this season of Epiphany, reveal yourself to us. Be present in all we do, all we think, all we are. Illuminate the path we walk together as a Diocese. Break into our ordinary lives in extraordinary ways. May your Holy Spirit not let us rest until we are filled to overflowing with your love and purpose. As we move into the next 150 years of ministry in this Diocese, may your wisdom continually guide our decisions and align our ministry with your mission in this place and at this time. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Lyn Briggs Member, 150th Anniversary Task Force KEITH DARWIN NELSON OBITUARY Keith Darwin Nelson, 93, died peacefully on February 17th, 2017, in Houston, Texas. He was a long-time resident of Colorado Springs. Keith was preceded in death by Phyllis, his wife of 51 years, and is survived by his son Erik, son-inlaw Terry Brandhorst and nephews Randy Nelson and Raymond Wagner. Keith was a Priest Keith was born and raised in Gowrie, Iowa. He graduated at St. James from the University of Iowa with a degree in accounting and was a member of the
8 Delta Upsilon fraternity. While attending college he met and became engaged to his beloved Phyllis. His college years were interrupted by World War II, during which he served in the U.S. Navy. He was an officer aboard the USS Shelby, which operated in the Pacific theatre. After the war, Keith and Phyllis were married in Denver, Colorado and spent their honeymoon at the Broadmoor Hotel. They fell in love with Colorado Springs. They lived for several years in Detroit, Michigan where Keith worked for the accounting firm Arthur Andersen. But Colorado Springs still beckoned. Keith resigned his position, and he and Phyllis courageously moved to Colorado Springs in 1955 without any firm promise of employment. Fortunately, Keith was soon hired by the Colorado Interstate Gas Company (CIG). Keith was also involved in several extracurricular civic activities, most notably as a member of the Colorado Springs Civic Theatre. He appeared in many productions and became an audience favorite. Other appearances even included the Broadmoor Ice Revue. In 1974 CIG was acquired by another firm and Keith left the company as Controller. He and Phyllis moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where Keith joined Northwest Pipeline Company. During this time Keith felt the calling to enter the priesthood in the Episcopal Church. After his ordination he was very active in the Diocese of Utah until he and Phyllis returned to Colorado Springs in Upon his return, Keith joined the clergy at the Chapel of Our Saviour and served there for the next 20 years. During his final years Keith lived at a retirement community near his son in Houston, but returned to his home in Colorado Springs during the summer months. A memorial service will take place at the Chapel of Our Saviour, 8 Fourth Street, Colorado Springs, CO The date and time of the service will be announced later. In the meantime, in lieu of flowers, Keith's family would deeply appreciate charitable contributions to the Chapel of Our Saviour or to the American Lung Association ( This Week Saturday Feb pm 5:30 pm Food Bank Delivery/Restock Young Families Activity- Parish Hall
