Therefore the January edition has less text than in other months. To make up for that we have more pictures, see below. Anne and I have been at home in the UK and missed the St Michael s Christmas services. I am told though that the Ecumenical Carol Service was especially memorable with some 120 people attending from all along the Riviera. Wherever you were for Christmas we hope you had a successful and joyous celebration and we wish all the community of St Michael s a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year! Hugh

2 News from the Diocese in Europe Bishop Robert s Christmas Message This year, instead of a written message, Bishop Robert posted his Christmas Message on YouTube. In it he reflects on the inspirational transformation of Ypres from conflict to peace; and how this points to the deeper transforming power of God who brings peace to the world and joy to our hearts. The Diocesan Annual Review The Diocese Website also features a link to the Diocese Annual Review, quite a full report which reminds us that there are plenty of other communities like ourselves under their umbrella What a Year! As 2018 drew to a close it seemed hard to avoid news of conflict and uncertainty all around us, in many countries and at many levels. In fact, I was tempted to use this graphic in place of the Happy New Year message on the previous page, it seems to suggest a leap into the unknown more than a smooth passage into the future. Who knows what 2019 will bring but this seems a good moment to reflect on progress made this year in our community at St Michael s. I would like to thank personally Father Tony and Fiona for their efforts on behalf of all of us and also to thank those too many to name here who have made things happen; organizing repairs and maintenance, improving the garden, preparing the services, cleaning the church, catering for our celebrations, funding improvements, looking after the finances and many other tasks. St Michael s certainly does not run itself. Many thanks to Fiona for sending a collection of photographs which I have assembled on the following pages to remind us of some of the many high points from Hugh
