2 THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME NOVEMBER 11, 2012 From Msgr. Figliozzi Scriptural Reflection for the Week For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood. (see Mark 12:38-44) How great it is to be generous! How small it is to be stingy! It takes great strength, love and wisdom to be generous! It requires nothing of us to be stingy! Hurricane Relief Many of our neighbors are experiencing terrible hardships as a result of the super storm. Those wishing to contribute to a Recovery Fund established by the Diocese may do so by making out a check to the Parish and place it in a separate envelope (of your own) marked Hurricane Relief. You may mail it to the Rectory or place it in the regular Sunday collection. Great Patience and Perseverance. Is needed at this time in the aftermath of the super storm. As I write, things could get worse as a result of a nor easter. Let s all remember the most important thing - care for one another! Thanksgiving Celebration at St. Catherine s St. Vincent s is invited over to St. Catherine s for a special evening of good food, lots of fun, and friends on Friday, November 16th at 7pm. Call the Parish Office at St. Catherine s ( ) for tickets and information. Last Week s Collection Parish: $4, Parish: $4, (10/28/12) Thank you for your sacrifices on behalf of your parish. One Final Thought I am nothing; I am but an instrument, a tiny pencil, in the hands of the Lord with which He writes what He likes. However imperfect we are, He writes beautifully. Blessed Teresa of Calcutta. Stewardship.. 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Reflection Both widows in today s readings gave all they had to the work of the Lord, one using all her remaining food to feed Elijah and the other offering her two copper coins to the temple treasury. Good stewards give all that is asked and trust God to be faithful to His promises. Living Stewardship We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who give without hesitation, not from their surplus, but from their substance.

5 THE LITURGICAL YEAR AND ITS SEASONS Part I By Rev. Johnny R. Mendonca Our liturgical year covers a twelve month calendar year; beginning near early December and ending the last Sunday of November. Each liturgical year has seasons that mark a time in accordance to our Lord's life through liturgical actions. Many of the seasons and liturgical actions are preparatory to a specific event in our Lord's life. More often we tell liturgical time by either moving towards Christmas or Easter - but as I have shared before our tradition is so much richer than just a date on a calendar. We can follow the liturgical year through scripture in which readings highlight various happenings in and around the life of the Lord. The liturgical year begins with the First Sunday of Advent and ends with the Feast of Christ the King. The seasons within a liturgical year are: Advent, Christmas, Ordinary Time, Lent and Easter and the remaining of the Ordinary Time. The universal church marks each year according to three scripture cycles; Sunday gospels according to A-Matthew, B-Mark and C-Luke. We are currently in Cycle B a year with most Gospel readings according to Mark. The universal church may on occasion designate a theme or specific focus over a period of time. Pope Benedict XVI recently designated a Year of Faith which will continue through November 23, 2013; the day before the Feast of Christ the King which ends the liturgical year. You may also recall, it was the beginning of this last liturgical year, the First Sunday of Advent, we began using the revised Roman Missal at all Masses. Can you believe it is one year already? If you listen carefully often the cantor or celebrant may announce the day and season we are celebrating prior to or at the beginning of each Sunday Mass. The actual time of year along with the season is shared to remind us where we are within our liturgical year. An example might be today we celebrate the 32 nd Sunday in Ordinary Time. We are currently approaching the end of this liturgical year and we are in Ordinary Time. There are many feast days and solemnities that occur in Ordinary Time: the Most Holy Trinity, the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist, the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Saints Peter and Paul, the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and most recently All Saints Day and All Souls Day, for example. PARISH IN HOME PRAYER Host Family/Individual CUP OF PRAYER... VICKIE REILLY PILGRIM STATUE OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA... MARLO DUMERVE Lit-ur-gy n. a form of public worship; a collection of formularies for public worship; the celebration of the Eucharist Please pray for the Deceased and their Families: John F. Haggerty Mary Ella Arnone Carolyn Casino Love is stronger than death, God is love... Each new liturgical year starts with a preparatory time, in which we anticipate the coming of Emmanuel the birth of Our Savior Jesus Christ. This time of anticipation and preparation is called the Season of Advent. The season begins with Evening Prayer I of the First Sunday of the liturgical year.... To Be Continued
