1 FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT FIRST READING: Joshua 5:9a, (33C) SECOND READING: 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 GOSPEL: Luke 15:1-3, A WORD FROM FATHER KELLY Two weeks ago I spoke to our 70 Confirmation students about - The Finish Line: Death and Dying. I shared with them several stories of people in my life who have died...from painful to peaceful. Little did I know that my life would be touched so soon after that conversation with the death of another very good friend. On March 1st I received a call informing me that Linda Weigel, who one week earlier suffered a major heart-attack, had gone into cardiac arrest and died. Linda was the Director of the Tribunal and Office for Canonical Services for our archdiocese. On February 12 Linda celebrated her 59th birthday. For thirteen years I worked closely with Linda in both the Marriage Tribunal, as well as team teaching with her the Marriage Law class to our seminarians at Mount Angel Seminary. But even more, Linda was a very good friend. She truly embraced life and sought to live it most completely. She laughed and she laughed some more many times bringing all around her to tears. A true woman of faith and love for our Catholic church, she will be greatly missed. Linda's death reminded me yet again of the need to be prepared and the importance of telling those we love and care about the place they have in our lives; our family and friends need to know that we love them...today! Like many, I feel the guilt of not telling Linda enough what a beautiful person she was and just how much she changed my life. Linda, may the gates of heaven open for you and may you rest in the peace of eternal life! The bread that you store up belongs to the hungry. The cloak that lies in your chest belongs to the naked. And the gold that you have hidden in the ground belongs to the poor. ~~ St. Basil the Great EASTER FLOWER COLLECTION A second collection for Easter flowers will be taken up Sunday, March 17th. Let the joy of Easter sound with lovely lilies gracing our altar! THE INSTALLATION MASS of ARCHBISHOP ALEXANDER K.
