Are you ready for a little holiday relaxation? One year has already passed since I came to Hilo. Time goes by so quickly! It was a very exciting and memorable year for me. I realized that I have met so many people since my arrival. It is so nice to be greeted with the warm aloha spirit wherever I go. The month of December has many events Jodo-e/ Kannon Ko & Toba Kuyo Service and new classes in Yoga and Qi-gong. This is the opportunity to practice the teachings of the Buddha with peace and balance of body, mind and spirit. Joya No Kane Service will be held on December 31 st. Joya means to remove Bonnou (our worldly desires) to greet the New Year with a pure heart. It is said there are 108 kinds of Bonnou in Buddhism. By tolling a bell at the service, we can remove our Bonnou of this year. I am looking forward to sharing my knowledge of Soto Zen Buddhism with you and your family in I go to the Buddha for guidance. I go to the Dharma for guidance. I go to the Sangha for guidance. Namu Kie Butsu. Namu Kie Ho. Namu Kie So. In Gassho, Rev. Shinsho Hata Joya No Kane 1

Please attend Sunday School till December 18 and rest until our Ojizo-son Service for blessings and protection in January. May the rest of this Year of the Monkey be good for you. From good will come good. Please take care. -- Sunday School Teachers Meditation Lights The Way Meditation is the cornerstone of Zen. Without people actually engaged in meditation, Zen would not be Zen. The Japanese word Zen translates as meditation. All sects of Zen practice meditation, even though they may vary on customs, traditions, and other aspects of Zen life. Meditation is the means to experience Zen for yourself. Dogen believed that Zazen was the right entrance to the Buddha Dharma, since he considered meditation practice itself is enlightenment, there is nothing outside the mind to seek, and nothing outside meditation to do. The best way to learn about Zen is to meditate. Understanding Zen must come from experience. Zen meditators let go of focusing on things and self to discover the calm, the silence within. This is not done by turning attention on the outer environment, but rather by sitting quietly with oneself, observing thoughts as they come and letting them go. Here, in complete identity with emptiness, meditation is enlightenment. In Gassho, Deacon Juho Kirkpatrick 100TH ANNIVERSARY POLO SHIRT SALE Our neat purple polo shirts made for Taishoji s 100th Anniversary are offered to Taishoji members and friends at the discounted price of just $ Sizes are Medium and Large.
