Each program includes meditation instruction and practice, talks on Shambhala teachings, group discussions, and individual meetings with a teacher. This work has been shown to alleviate suffering and promote a profound sense of well-being. Yoga and meditation will be taught as part of the fiveday retreat so that apprentices can develop a daily spiritual practice to support their work. This is an advanced TC apprenticeship program. Before registering, you must experience an individual TC session from one of our practitioners or Shar Lee, have been accepted as a TC Apprentice, and attend the TC beginner s program. Elias Amidon At this time of year we give thanks for all our blessings, but if, as the Buddhists say, there s no God to thank, are we just talking to ourselves? If we have been touched by the realization of the nondual nature of Being, can we still worship? Pir Elias Amidon will guide us in how to vibrantly live the paradoxes of love and emptiness, the Divine and the Unborn, action and non-effort, and how we live simultaneously in time and timelessness, mortality and deathlessness. Our primary focus will be direct experience of the resolution of these paradoxes in our lives, to learn, as Rumi said, to see the one world with two eyes. We will explore the essence of Sufi teachings, practices, poetry, and musical meditation while drawing insights from Dzogchen, Zen, Advaita, and the Abrahamic religions. Our goal is the relinquishing of goal-making, learning to live without attachments but nevertheless wholeheartedly, gratefully, and playfully. Author of the book The Open Path Recognizing Nondual Awareness, and co-editor of the books Earth Prayers, Life Prayers, and Prayers for a Thousand Years, he has worked for many years in the fields of peace and environmental activism in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. The Joy of Recovery Boulder Program Kevin Griffin Much of the recovery path seems to focus on struggle: breaking free of painful habits, facing inner demons, and cleaning up past karma. In all of this, we may lose sight of the ultimate purpose of recovery: finding happiness in our lives. This talk will look at the ways that Buddhist teachings and practices can help us to make a shift towards a more positive experience of recovery and working with the 12 Steps. The talk begins at 7pm. Please visit our website for location. Tuition $15 Kevin Griffin is the author of the seminal recovery book, One Breath at a Time: Buddhism and the Twelve Steps and A Burning Desire: Dharma, God and the Path of Recovery. Karyn Blair Free Your Energy: A Yoga Retreat Jeanie Manchester & Billy Goldman In this retreat we will refine and deepen our yoga practice by utilizing the breath, steadying the gaze, and aligning the body. Our practice will allow us to listen and become more aware of our superficial mind and habitual patterns. As habitual patterns arise, there is an opportunity to see them for what they are concepts and ideas. In this process, the energy that was previously deployed in identifying with these ideas is released, resulting in greater freedom and energy. Not only do we experience greater joy, but we begin to respond, rather than react, to our challenges. Through asana, pranayama, meditation and contemplation, we will come to understand better how we can free up the vital life force that is essential for living a vibrant and healthy life. Tuition $ nights Jeanie Manchester, ERYT 500, Director of Anjaneya Yoga Shala in Boulder, has been studying modern dance and yoga for the past 30 years, and offers yoga immersions, trainings and retreats. Jeanie has extensively studied Ashtanga Vinyasa, Iyengar and Anusara Yoga systems. She is an avid student of meditation as well as the Shri Vidya Goddess Wisdom of South India. Billy Goldman began studying yoga in 1981 with Richard Freeman and has been teaching since He has also studied extensively with K. Pattabhi Jois, senior Iyengar instructor Gabriella Giubilaro, among others. His classes are a comfortable mix of sharing the details of alignment in the postures with a visceral understanding of the internal feelings that act as cues to movement within each posture. The Descent: The Creative Power of the Dark Elizabeth Rabia Roberts Winter is not a failed summer! Dark times are a natural part of our physical, psychological, and spiritual experience. What if darkness is not a failure, but instead a restorative and creative time in which we have access to previously hidden realizations? Wisdom traditions throughout history have given us myths and teachings that offer capacities for navigating these dark nights of the soul. Darkness means that we can t see with our usual sight, but are plunged into the well of mystery, of not-knowing, where we no longer see things from the outside as a witness. Instead we depend on the grace of an inner dark light, seen only by us, that offers the possibility of spring and redemption. During this weekend we will explore how to move through our own dark nights, and be able to help guide others through this process. Tuition $ nights Elizabeth Rabia Roberts is a spiritual teacher, citizen activist, and specialist in non-formal education. She began this work in 1964 in Selma with Dr. Martin Luther King, and since then has taught and served in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and Burma, among others. A vision quest guide for 22 years, she is the co-editor of Earth Prayers, Life Prayers, and Prayers for a Thousand Years. She helped found Naropa s Masters Program in Environmental Leadership and Certificate Program in Ecopsychology. December CONTEMPLATIVE ARTS Fearlessly Creative: A Meditation and Writing Retreat Susan Piver What do writers want more than anything in the world? Time to write. Yet even if such precious time could be found, it s not always easy to settle into the writing groove. Meditation can help synchronize mind and body in a way that truly supports the creative process. In addition to plenty of personal writing time, quiet, and the supportive (but non-intrusive!) presence of other writers, this program will include meditation instruction and discussion of how to create and maintain a practice at home. Evenings provide the option to share and discuss your work with others, if you would like. Open to writers of fiction and non-fiction, published and unpublished. Please note that the majority of time will be spent writing rather than doing writing exercises. Thus this program is best for those who wish to begin, continue, or complete a particular project. Bring your ideas, works-in-progress, or simply your wish to devote attention to your creativity. Tuition $ nights Susan Piver is the New York Times bestselling author of seven books, including the award-winning How Not to Be Afraid of Your Own Life and The Wisdom of a Broken Heart. She is an authorized teacher and meditation instructor in the Shambhala Buddhist lineage and has practiced meditation for over 15 years. Susan leads retreats and teaches around the world.
