2 JUDITH HENDIN CONSCIOUS BODY TRAINING MATERIALS 2 WHAT YOU WILL LEARN IN THE CONSCIOUS BODY TRAINING In the Conscious Body Training, you will learn about the intriguing relationship between inner selves and the body. Any body symptom can lead to a part of us which can be called a self that is buried inside and is calling to us. When you find this hidden self, personal transformation, as well as physical healing, often occurs. First you will learn the preliminary steps of how to find this buried self: Thinkers: Because people often approach inner work rationally, you will first meet Thinker selves that want to figure out body symptoms rationally. You will talk to these Thinkers, and learn to be aware of your own active thinking process, so that you can move beyond that into the bodypsyche, where the body and the unconscious merge. Gatekeeper: Clients often express reluctance to explore inner issues. This reluctance is actually a self we call the Gatekeeper. In Conscious Body, you will meet the Gatekeeper your own as well as the client s and facilitate it with respect. Relaxation: You will learn to induct a whole-body relaxation, in order to let go of the rational mind and allow the bodypsyche to take over. Symbolic Realm: In deep relaxation, the body connects with the unconscious, and brings forth images, sensations, and movements that come in symbolic form, as in a dream. You will learn how to talk to these symbolic expressions in their own language and decipher their gifts. Then you will learn how to recognize the emerging self that offers healing: Find the Self behind the Symptom: As you follow the symbols that arise from the bodypsyche, you will learn specific ways to recognize the hidden self that is waiting to be discovered. 4 Types of Selves That Arise from Body Symptoms: You will learn the four broad categories of selves that typically emerge from body symptoms: 1) everyday opposite selves, such as the carefree self as an opposite to the responsible self; 2) selves holding unexpressed emotions; 3) undiscovered inner children; and 4) selves holding buried trauma. Emotions: Medical research has shown that buried emotions are often contributors to illness. You will honor the Gatekeeper of Emotions that holds back unwanted

Move the Energy to Bring Healing: Each new self that arises from a body symptom carries healing energy, and you will encourage this healing flow by utilizing various creative and dramatic techniques. Bring the Discoveries into Real Life: Each new self that arises from a body symptom offers the possibility for tremendous personal transformation. You will learn how to support clients, and yourself, as you incorporate these discoveries into everyday life.

4 JUDITH HENDIN CONSCIOUS BODY TRAINING MATERIALS 4 PRE-REQUISITES FOR ATTENDING THE CONSCIOUS BODY TRAINING Conscious Body is built, in part, on Voice Dialogue and the Psychology of Selves, a method pioneered by clinical psychologists Hal and Sidra Stone, Ph.D. s. To benefit the most from this training, participants need to be familiar with Voice Dialogue. Because these are experiential methods, to enter into the work, participants need to have experience in Voice Dialogue. It is recommended that participants have all of the following experiences: Several Voice Dialogue sessions with an experienced facilitator A clear understanding of inner selves, primary and disowned selves, the Aware Ego process, and energetics Familiarity with common selves, including the Pusher, Pleaser, Caretaker, Inner Child, and Inner Critic Practice in doing Voice Dialogue facilitations Additional optional experience can include: Reading articles or books about Voice Dialogue, which are available on the Voice Dialogue International website, Watching short Voice Dialogue videos on the internet

5 JUDITH HENDIN CONSCIOUS BODY TRAINING MATERIALS 5 JUDITH HENDIN BRIEF BIOGRAPHY Judith Hendin, Ph.D., has directed the Conscious Body & Voice Dialogue Training Institute since the 1990s. A somatic therapist, neuromuscular therapist, and former dancer, Dr. Hendin teaches bodypsyche medicine internationally. She is the author of the book, The Self behind the Symptom: How Shadow Voices Heal Us. Her research has been published in the USA Body Psychotherapy Journal. A Voice Dialogue trainer and facilitator for 25 years, she has served on the staff of visionary Shakti Gawain, as well as on the staff of Hal and Sidra Stone, originators of Voice Dialogue.
