The Palace (Phra Borom Maha Ratcha Wang) dates back to 1782, the year in which Bangkok was founded. It is actually a complex of buildings and served as the official residence of the king of Thailand from the 18th century to the early 20th century. Today, it is used only for ceremonial purposes. The complex consists of over 100 brightly colored buildings, golden spires and glittering mosaics. Some buildings in the complex are in pure Thai architectural style. Others, like the magnificent Dusit Hall, show signs of European influence. Dusit Hall used to serve as the Funeral Hall of the Grand Palace. Witness Thailand s most sacred shrine Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) which contains the small and much revered Emerald Buddha. The jade Buddha (between 60 and 75 cm statue) dates back to the 14th century and is located high above the heads of the worshipers and tourists. The murals that adorn the walls of the Temple depict scenes from the Thai version of the Hindu epic Ramayana.

Visit the four chapels that contain a series of 396 gilded Buddhas, sitting in lotus positions. It is also considered to be the leading school of Thai Traditional Massage and it would be worth trying their skills. Wat Benchambophit, a beautiful masterpiece made from Carrara Marble from Italy with ornate crossbeams decorated with lacquer and gold. It was built by King Rama V in The temple is famous for more than one reasons, though featuring at the backside of a 5 baht coin is a major one. Since this Wat or Temple is located amidst many government offices and palaces, it is often visited by high ranking officials. A day out in these temples will refresh your mind & soul.
