John Hopper What Is True If There is No God

NO Rationality

The Life and Le+ers of Charles Darwin The Ramifications of a Godless World With me the horrid doubt always arises whether the convic6ons of man s mind, which has been developed from the mind of the lower animals, are of any value or at all trustworthy. Would any one trust in the convic6ons of a monkey s mind, if there are any convic6ons in such a mind? Charles Darwin

Supposing there was no intelligence behind the universe, no crea6ve mind. In that case, nobody designed my brain for the purpose of thinking. It is merely that when the atoms inside my skull happen, for physical or chemical reasons, to arrange themselves in a certain way, this gives me, as a by- product, the sensa6on I call thought. C.S. Lewis The Case for Chris3anity

But, if so how can I trust my own thinking to be true?...but if I can t trust my own thinking, of course I can t trust the arguments leading to Atheism, and therefore have no reason to be an Atheist, or anything else. Unless I believe in God, I cannot believe in thought: so I can never use thought to disbelieve in God.

No Ra6onality NO Free Will

Free will is an illusion. Our wills are simply not of our own making. Thoughts and inten6ons emerge from background causes of which we are unaware and over which we exert no conscious control. We do not have the freedom we think we have. Free will is actually more than an illusion (or less), in that it cannot be made conceptually coherent. Sam Harris Free Will

We all feel like we have free will. Deeply understanding that free will is a myth and illusion need not strip you of that comfy, inborn, blissful feeling of being a me, having a sense of self that separates you from others. But it is possible to let go of fantasy and, at the same 6me, enjoy the feeling. Why not savor the evolved feeling of free will as you would a performance of magicians such as Houdini, James Randi, Penn and Teller, and David Copperfield? Cris Evat The Myth of Free Will

No Ra6onality No Free Will NO Morality

No Ra6onality No Free Will No Morality NO Justice

No Ra6onality No Free Will No Morality No Jus6ce NO Design

No Ra6onality No Free Will No Morality No Jus6ce No Design NO Purpose

Darwin argues that evolu6on has no purpose. Individuals struggle to increase the representa6on of their genes in future genera6ons, and that is all. Stephen Jay Gould Ever Since Darwin

In a universe of electrons and selfish genes, blind physical forces and gene6c replica6on, some people are going to get hurt, other people are going to get lucky, and you won't find any rhyme or reason in it, nor any jus6ce. The universe that we observe has precisely the proper6es we should expect if there is, at bo[om, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, Nothing but pi6less indifference. Richard Dawkins River Out of Eden

Let me summarize my views.there are no gods, no purposes, no goal- directed forces of any kind. There is no life a_er death. When I die, I am absolutely certain I am going to be dead. That s the end for me. There is no ul6mate founda6on for ethics, no ul6mate meaning to life, and no free will for humans, either. William B. Provine Darwinism: Science or Naturalis6c Philosophy?

No Ra6onality No Free Will No Morality No Jus6ce No Design No Purpose NO Love

Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth for your love is more delighaul than wine. Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes; your name is like perfume poured out. No wonder the maidens love you! Take me away with you let us hurry! Let the king bring me into his chambers. Song of Solomon 1:2-4a

The man who wants to be loved does not desire the enslavement of the beloved. He is not bent on becoming the object of passion, which flows forth mechanically. He does not want to possess an automa6on, and if we want to humiliate him, we need try to only persuade him that the beloved s passion is the result of a psychological determinism Jean- Paul Sartre Being and Nothingness

No Ra6onality No Free Will No Morality No Jus6ce No Design No Purpose No Love NO Beauty

But, how could we think of an aesthe6c jus6fica6on of experience, that really was a jus6fica6on and not just a momentary narco6c, unless our aesthe6c experience was sustained by a divine will revealed in the universe, and par6cularly in our experience of it as beau6ful Anthony O Hear

Aesthe6c experience seems to produce the harmony between us and the world that would have to point to a religious resolu6on were it not to be an illusion. But such a resolu6on is intellectually unsustainable, so aesthe6c experience, however powerful, remains subjec6ve and, in its full ar6cula6on, illusory. Beyond Evolu3on

No Ra6onality No Free Will No Morality No Jus6ce No Design No Purpose No Love No Beauty NO You

The Astonishing Hypothesis is that You, your joys and your sorrows, your memories and ambi6ons, your sense of personal iden6ty and free will, are in fact no more than the behavior of a vast assembly of nerve cells and their associated molecules. Francis Crick The Astonishing Hypothesis

NO Ra6onality Free Will Morality Jus6ce Design Purpose Love Beauty You

John Hopper The Ramifications of a Godless World

Beauty is no quality in things themselves: It exists merely in the mind which contemplates them; and each mind perceives a different beauty. One person may even perceive deformity, where another is sensible of beauty; and every individual ought to acquiesce in his own sen6ment, without pretending to regulate those of others. David Hume, Of the Standard of Taste
