9 QUESTION SHEET Discipleship: A Counter-Intuitive Love God s not glorified by begrudging submission but rather an overflow in joy, depth, beauty, life all those things. So He s saying here, If all you do is love those that love you, there s no benefit there. Everyone and anyone can do that. This kind of love that Jesus is unpacking stands in such contrast to how the rest of the world lives and loves, that to view it and to see it and to be anywhere near it, creates in the heart of the seer, even if they re not a believer, an understanding that If there is a God, this man, this woman knows Him, because this is not natural. This is not intuitive. When you attack somebody, they attack back. When you bless somebody, they bless back. This is how our fallen universe operates. God says, Not how I designed it. Somebody hates you, you do good to them. Somebody curses you, you bless them. Somebody abuses you, you pray for them. You lend without getting in return. Somebody mocks you, jabs you, pushes you because of My name, you don t retaliate. Matt Chandler Questions: 1 How does the world s ethic of love differ from the words of Jesus in Luke 6:27-36? 2 Does the way you love others, especially your enemies, look more like the world s ethic or this commandment? 3 Is the text a radical teaching of Jesus, as many refer to it as? Examine Proverbs 20:22, Proverbs 25:21-11, Exodus 23:5, Matthew 7:12, 1 John 4:7, Romans 12:14-21 and 1 Peter 3:9-12 to explore how consistent this commandment is through scripture. 4 Who are your enemies? What makes it difficult to love them as Jesus commands? 5 Spend some time considering verses 35 and 36 of today s passage. How can understanding Jesus mercy towards us better help us to love our enemies?

Todd Sellick will address the issue of anxiety. India Project: Randy Mac and Alannah are going to Rwanda and India this summer! If you would like to help them out financially, you may give your donation to EMBC designated India Project. Selkirk Ministries will be serving today at 3:00 pm. If you are interested in more information please see Agnes Roesler. Summer Internship: For students grades 8-12, dates: Mondays Jul. 9, 16,23, Aug. 13,20. The focus of the internship is discipleship training and leadership development. Students interested must contact Sean Major in writing before June 17. Green Team: EMBC has been approved for a Provincial grant. The job description is on the info desk, if you are interested please contact Pastor Ken. Applications must be in by June 10. EMBCs summer VBS program will not run this year. We look forward to running the program again next summer. Zach Reichardt has taken a full time teacher contract and will be leaving his position as Youth Coordinator. More details to come.
