(company exits. Jamie and Alison remain) Jamie and Alison: Thank you for being here tonight. My name is Alison Ayubi And I am Jamie Kate Davelaar. JAMIE: We d like to thank our sponsors: We created this event last year so we could help get financial assistance to all kids who want to be involved and get the increased confidence that comes from being in the KS program. But hey! We are not the only emcees this year. We get to perform this year! ALISON * And since last year s event, I got to work with about 12 other kids to write and compose our own musical. It was called Treatment. (ALISON riffs about the impact.) Our goal is to raise $20,000 through tickets, sponsorships and donations We have another event November 10 th The Sing it Forward Soiree for adults 21 and over tell people! There are invites in the lobby. It is really unbelievable that KIDSTAGE gives us the opportunity to create something from nothing. Like Treatment Like Sing it Forward. Spark of Creation (Jamie and Alison) DELANEY: I admit, I just love to be on stage, it s exhilarating and fun and that s ok, right? I mean the world needs entertainers, storytellers someone called us joy makers, right I mean. LYDIA: nothing makes me feel the way I do like when I am belting out a song, seeing the faces of the audience loving it and part of it all and when I am ANNIKA: dancing in a big dance number, I feel so alive I just think. 2 Eric s Monologue: I admit I wish I had started KS earlier. I just know I would be more secure in my abilities, and have had the benefit of all of the different adult perspectives you get here. And so much of their individual, one on one time! I think I might have known more about who I am and what I wanted earlier and felt that there was a place for me. I am one of those kids who struggles, in school, with how to use my time productively ADHD and all that. Because of KS and my last two years here, I have started to become way more serious about a direction. I am much more disciplined. I mean theatre really brings that out in you! You have to show up, on time and prepared, or else- really! So I am taking a gap year or whatever they call it to work on me. I am taking lots of private lessons and continuing to study here with the Institute. Thanks to KIDSTAGE I am really getting my life under control now. Taking the Wheel (Eric) Olivia: Let me tell you about taking the wheel! I live in Mount Vernon, Big Lake actually. Like 40 minutes from here. My family and I think it is totally worth it to drive here for everything I do at KIDSTAGE now. There is nothing like this anywhere not even in Seattle and believe me, we have looked! During middle school, I stopped doing theater completely, and got into a rather dark place. Last year was really hard and I felt so isolated. When I started with KS it was an instant community and I felt the warmth of being connected again. If you are my age and don t have a bond to something outside of school and school friends then you don t have a drive to grow, and reach for, and try things. When you know what you love and can do what you love, you have a purpose and it s exhilarating! This song, from Secret Garden expresses this idea so well we are the plants and KIDSTAGE is the warm soil, the rain and the loving attention that helps us grow. Wick Chance s Monologue: This is the scariest thing I've ever done. I thought Sing it Forward was just another singing thing where I play a character. But I was told I would be playing myself tonight...well there's a character I haven't thought of playing. To be honest I don't really show my self to people, at least the real me. My pain. No, I couldn't show that, I'd just get hurt again. It seemed so much better to just slap on a smile and make people laugh, please people. I came to Kidstage to become an actor. That's why I'm

3 in institute this year and already I know it's gonna change me, challenge me. Make me better at what I do. So tonight I take a risk and tell my story. I'm the youngest of seven children. So my parents had to work a lot to support the family, hell they still do. But that's fine, I had my siblings, I had my sister. My sister was my best friend when I was little. We were attached at the hip. But when I turned about nine she started acting different, she started taking drugs, she ran away. Then she came with some serious issues, started threatening me, lying about the family. She wasn't the person I knew anyone. She just left me My anguish turned to anger, my depression to deception. Then I was shown my escape, theatre. I could become someone else. I could hide. I became who I am today, the funny guy. I struggle to trust people because of my sister, hell I struggled to trust Kidstage. They gave me a big part, and I thought they were crazy having me sing. No one had given me a lead in a musical before. But they showed me I could do it, and I did, and I'm still doing it. To me, It's not a risk to preform, it's a risk to trust. Song... I take the risk tonight. See me for who I am and not the mask I lay over my pain. Kidstage has taught me to be an actor I cant get in the way of myself, and I won't let this get in my way anymore. I was hurt, but that should not define me Dreamer in Disguise (Chance) Mitch: I can t remember or imagine a life without KIDSTAGE. Having been a part of it for the past 5 ears, it s given me nearly everything I ve needed in a family of friends and professionals, artistic enrichment and a deeper understanding of myself. Beth: When I became an Institute student last year, I didn t have a ton of confidence. And I was awful at dancing. I really wanted to perform in Pirates of Penzance, more than anything. I love Gilbert and Sullivan and I knew that being part of it would give me great personal growth. I got cast before my family realized it would be a hardship for us to pay. So I had to turn down the role. Then Janet called us in and told me I could do it for free! That I could have a scholarship. I couldn t believe it. If there are people in the world that would just let you do that...just give you something so special I mean how amazing is that? Thanks to that experience I feel stronger as performer and much more courage in my every day life. I hope my being here tonight really does help me to Sing it Forward! 4 Megan Monologue: KIDSTAGE has been huge in my life. Since 10 years old, I have been involved in classes, camps, assisting in classes and of course performing in shows. I was heading directly into a performance career and last year, I was offered one of 20 spots in a prestigious college back east, with an outstanding program. I enrolled. But something just didn t feel right. Why didn t I feel excited? Ready to fly into what I always believed I would do? You see, I love something else too working with special needs kids. I have volunteered at school in our special education program for the last few years. I feel so alive there. I feel such a sense of purpose. Thankfully, I have learned to listen to myself and take initiative for what I want. So I listened and I decided to change direction. I told the school to give my spot to someone else. And signed up for classes to move me in a new direction. And I felt great about it! Sorry Dad, I know you wanted this for me I will always love theatre and performance. But I am going into special education. I want this more than anything! Change in Me Lisa-Transition to Alumni (this needs more work!) My name is Lisa Nathans, and I am a KIDSTAGE kid AND the Education Programs Manager here in Everett. What a dream job for me. To have grown up learning in this environment and now to be able to return and give back! It s an honor and a great responsibility! This is the beginning of our special Alumi section of performances. And I get to start! Little Mermaid Song- Lisa Grow For Me It Takes Two- Mikey and Hannah Watch Me Soar- Hannah Lukas You know what I like most about performing? The feeling you get just before you go onstage of the anxiety and happiness overcoming your entire body. And, if I never got involved in theatre or performing, at school I would have never been able to speak or read in front of the class. It allows students to learn how to act sing and dance while offering a variety of production opportunities throughout the year. Before I found out about KIDSTAGE, my life was miserable. I always got teased by the people who thought they were better than me. And at that time, I thought they were. But as I got into KIDSTAGE, I built confidence to perform and I made friends

5 with people who supported me even if I made mistakes. I've been chased. I've been pushed. I've been screamed at. I've been bullied. And I've been afraid for my safety. But because of KIDSTAGE, I learned to stand up for myself. (Pause.) (ASK) I want to make sure other kids can come here too, whether they can afford it or not. Please help us with any donation amount.
