1 MINISTRY UPDATE I have always enjoyed telling stories about the things that I see and have to deal with when I am on the road. Some of the stories are good, and some are not so good. What I most like to share about is how we see God using this ministry to share His love through the trumpet was a good year for us. We went to every corner of the country, performed 264 concerts, and saw over 1400 people ask Christ into their lives. God is so cool! It s amazing to see how He can work through music to do such great things. There are many times in the Bible when people would sing praises to God for what He has done, and I want to do the same for what He has done with this ministry - but I think He would enjoy me playing praises on my horn more than me singing. I cannot sing. This year is a little different than last. It seems as if every couple of years, we accumulate a lot of concert requests from churches in Pennsylvania. Other years, we struggle to fit PA churches into the schedule due to touring throughout the country. As a result, we take all of those Pennsylvania churches and put them into one year, and that is what has happened for 2015 lots of PA concert dates. With most of this year being in PA, it makes the traveling a lot easier and allows me to be home much more between concerts. Years like this keep the miles on the truck down and the expenses are lower, but it doesn t change anything else. We have already seen close to 400 people ask Christ into their lives this year, and we are so excited to see what God will do in someone s life at the next concert.

2 We currently have a few needs and are asking you to join us in lifting these needs to God in prayer. First, we need to raise $ for an airline ticket to go to Guatemala in August. We are doing a series of smaller concerts in parks and schools during the week. We are doing one large outreach concert at the end of the week where the audience will hear the Gospel and have the opportunity to give their lives to Christ. The last time we went to Guatemala we had very little free time, our schedule was very busy, and God did some amazing things while we were there. We are also in need of several office supplies. It seems as if we run out of envelopes, copy paper and ink for the printers at the same time. Our estimated cost is around $500. I never like asking for help, but I also know that if you don t ask, no one will have the opportunity to help. Thank you so much for keeping up with this ministry and what we are doing by God s grace. We are excited to have filled almost half of next year s schedule and are looking forward to getting back out on our longer tours. If you re in Pennsylvania, come and check us out this year. 3 FAMILY MATTERS We can definitely feel the winds of change moving through the Rider Family. I don t always do so well with change. Sometimes I find change exciting, other times I find it hard or sad. I know God takes us through these changes to help us rely on Him more, to learn to let go and lean on Him. As our family goes through these changes, I m so thankful to be able to turn to our Lord, who never changes. Chase is quickly approaching his 16 th birthday and will be behind the wheel before we know it. It feels like just yesterday we were teaching Kaitlin how to drive not sure I m ready to do it all again so soon. Prayers are appreciated. Haha. Chase has been enjoying his class in woodshop this year. He has made quite a few cutting boards for family members and teachers; he s made a beautiful table for our front porch, and has crafted a few CD holders for our concert product table. He has also been doing some solo concerts with his trumpet and traveling with Chiz when he is able to. Our oldest daughter Kaitlin turned 18, and is getting ready to graduate high school, and then starting college at Penn State University in the summer. After almost 3 years working for Chick-fil-A, she decided she was ready for a change and is now working at TJ Maxx for some extra money to help with college expenses. As happy as I am to see her grow up and spread her wings, it makes me sad at the same time. She is getting ready to start a new chapter in her life, one as a grown up and not a little girl. (Although, she will always be our little girl, no matter how old she is.) We are so proud of her and all of her accomplishments and can t wait to see all of the adventures God takes her on. Ryan became a teenager this year. (That makes 3 teens in our house now how is this possible?) His arms and legs continue to get longer and longer and he is not a little boy anymore. Ry is very kind hearted and very caring. He loves reading his Bible every morning and telling us about what he has read. He s very ready for school to be over and for summer to begin. Ry loves creating, drawing, and making people laugh. He sure is a ham, especially when telling us stories at the dinner table. I think he entertains himself as much as he entertains us. Haha.

4 Brooke is 8 and in 3 rd grade. She enjoys singing, reading and writing stories, and has a fun imagination. Brookie is in Girl Scouts and is looking forward to an upcoming trip to the Pittsburg Zoo this summer with her troop. She loves animals of all shapes and sizes, so I m pretty sure she will have a blast on her trip. She just recently had an expander put in her mouth and is trying to adjust to life without her favorite sticky treats like gummies and caramel. She s been a trooper so far, but she s already counting down the days until they remove it and she can chew her Hubba Bubba again. As for myself, I am trying to take life - one day at a time. Life has been a bit overwhelming lately as I try to keep up with the daily grind. Housework, office work, being a good wife to my husband, being a single mom to our 4 kids while my husband is on the road (for over half of the year), and trying to provide the needs of a big family (braces, college, car repairs, groceries) on a ministry salary, and the list goes on. I don t mean that as a complaint. I know a lot of you can relate - I m just saying it can be overwhelming. I find myself trying to do it all and figure it out on my own, and I fail - a lot. But God has been reminding me that I m not doing this alone, nor am I in control. He s here with me; He s got this. I just need to trust Him through it all. It s not easy to give up the reigns of control, but God has blessed me with this life, my family and all that goes with it I know He will take care of every aspect of our life; He s gotten us this far, I just have to let Him take the reigns. Matthew 6:34 So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. I am so ready for sunny days and warm breezes. We are getting little hints of warmer weather, but as I am writing this, it is flurrying outside. It s the middle of spring, and we are still seeing snow. This weather helps me stay focused in the office and get my work done, but I am ready for the winds of change to sweep through and bring me summer days. 5 CHIZ S CORNER The world we live in today is a crazy fast paced life. With smart phones, internet, satellites and so much more, it is hard to believe that we ever functioned and did things without all of this technology. I remember growing up and looking for pay phones when I was on the road to call home. I remember waiting for my dial up modem to connect and having to wait five to six minutes just for a document to download on my computer. As much as things have improved through the years, I can t help but miss a few of the old things. It is just crazy to me how we all get so impatient when waiting two minutes for a two hour movie to download on our phone or tablet so we can take that movie anywhere we want; or how we get so impatient when we have to wait five minutes as our meal warms up in the microwave. The world moves so fast, and the technology pushes us faster and faster each and every year. Now don t get me wrong or misunderstand me, I am not a crazy conservative that doesn t have a cell phone, computer and doesn t use any technology. As a matter of fact, I rely on technology for our ministry and our way of life quite a bit. My problem with technology and the fast pace of this world is that we don t know when to slow down and what to slow down for. It is so easy to pull into a drive-thru and order a whole meal for you and your family and drive off with the food in just a few short minutes. How many of us treat our Christianity and our time with God the same way? The last time I checked, churches don t have a drive-thru, it s not a McChurch that you go to on Sunday, and it s not a McPrayer time when you pray to God. (Hopefully McDonald s won t yell at me for saying that.) It seems like so many people want God to be quick and easy when things are good and not have to invest much time in Him. People are content with the one paragraph daily devotional that they read on the toilet that morning, and then won t give God another second of the day. But, when things get bad in life, they wonder why God doesn t provide everything they ask for. Kelli and I have been married for 19 years now. It has been an awesome time with her, and she is so blessed to have me!!!! Haha! Kelli and I have always gotten along, but we have definitely had some challenging times in our relationship. What relationships don t have challenges? We ve realized that in order to maintain a healthy relationship, we have to invest time in each other. Even when there aren t struggles, you still have to spend time nurturing the relationship to keep it strong. Relationships are one of the greatest investments you can make on this earth. But all relationships take work. I love Kelli with all my heart, but if I spent less than five minutes with her every day, she and I would not be together right now. That is why having a fast food type of relationship with God is not good. God will always be there for us, but in order to have a close relationship with Christ, we have to desire to draw closer to Him every day of our Christian lives. Reading the Bible, praying, and seeking God in everything we do is what our focus should be on, not living a life that is satisfied with the five minutes we gave God during our little devotional that morning. I know that we are all busy, and that some of us may work from sunup to sundown, but so does God. He never quits working for YOU. Think about how your relationship would be with your parents, spouse, children, or friends if you gave them the small amount of time as most of us give to God. We would be lonely people living selfish lives that go nowhere. When I m writing these columns, I always have to say that I m not writing this as criticism to others, but more as an area in my life that I have to work on. I think it is actually harder for people in ministry to have their daily time with God because we are always doing ministry stuff. It is so easy to think that all of that ministry stuff is our time with God because it s a ministry. After all, this ministry exists to bring people to God, so all of the work that I m doing in the office, or on the road today, is me working for God - right? Wrong! It is very hard to do, but I have drawn a line of priorities in

6 my life, and it is what I live by. My first and greatest priority is God, and my relationship with Christ. My second priority is my relationship with my wife and kids. Family is so important to me. And my third priority is this ministry that God has called me to. Do you want to know what it means to have a personal relationship with Christ? None of us can plan a perfect day, but we can certainly make the day better by putting God first. If you have accepted Christ as you Savior, and have asked Him to come into your life and forgiven you of your sins, then Christ is with you, and you should invest time into your relationship with Him. From the first day that I met Kelli, I wanted to spend as much time with her as I could - that hasn t changed to this day. When I am home and off of the road, she and I do everything together. I love spending time with her. And because we invest so much in each other, we are very close and have a very strong relationship. The same thing is true, and will be true, when you invest time in your relationship with Christ. Don t be a fast food Christian. Invest time in your relationship with Christ, and enjoy a closer walk with Him; because if you have Christ as your Savior, you ll be spending eternity with him in Heaven.
