1 Interview With Some of The Biggest Stars From A Wrinkle in Time By Hector Ramirez and Diego Soto (Bob The Interviewer): So today we have a special guests, welcome Meg, Charles Wallace, Mr. Murry, Aunt Beast, and Mrs. Whatsit. I m Bob Henkins, and today, I ll be interviewing some of the biggest stars from the hit novel A Wrinkle in Time. We ll be starting off with Meg. (Bob The Interviewer): In about chapter 11, L Engle states, The Black Thing. Yes. The Black Thing burns unless it is counteracted properly. The three beasts stood around Meg,and it seemed that they were feeling into her with their softly waving tentacles. The movement of tentacles was as rhythmic and flowing as the dance of an undersea plant, and lying there, cradled in strange arms, Meg, despite herself, felt a sense of security that was deeper than anything she has known since the days when she lay in her mother s arms in the old rocking chair and was sung to sleep (L Engle, 2007, p. 197). How did you feel before and after being comforted by the Beasts? (Meg): Well Bob I was unconscious but still felt the pain and agony that I was in after tessering to the unusual planet. That was until I felt the wavering of the unsudden creatures hands swirling around me, giving comfort. At the moment it gave me a flashback of the same comfort I felt as a newborn. That was when the warm hands of my mother surrounded me while rocking back and forth on the chair. At that point in time I was still mad at

2 my father for abandoning Charles Wallace, so the comfort from the beast felt nice. (Bob The Interviewer) In chapter 11, L Engle states, Don t worry about you little brother." The tentacles musical words were soft against her. We would never leave him behind the shadow. But for now you must relax, you must be happy, you must get well. The gentle words, you must be happy, you must get well. The gentle words, the feeling that this beast would be able to love her no matter what she said or did, lapped Meg in warmth and peace. She felt a delicate touch of tentacle to her cheek, as tender as her mother s kiss (L Engle, 2007, p.202) Why did you decide to help a child you did not know? (Aunt Beast): I helped that young child out of good will. She needed urgent care which I gave her and while in the process we had our spare time of. In our conversations I ve heard how important this Charles was to Meg and felt the need to take care of Meg. She had all negative emotions guiltiness, sadness, depression, and anger. I did what was best for Meg so that she could be able to save Charles Wallace. (Bob The interviewer): Interesting. Now this one is for you, Mr. Murry. In chapter 11, L Engle states, Aunt Beast spoke to the others, The child is distraught. Don t judge her harshly. She was almost taken by the Black Thing. Sometimes

3 we can t know what spiritual damage it leaves even when physical recovery is complete (L Engle, 2007, p. 209). How did you feel about your daughter going through the pain of the Black Thing? (Mr. Murry): I felt very frightened, frightened that I may end up losing Meg. She was acting very angry and stern manner, and it seemed out of place for her. She seemed especially angry towards me, as she felt it was my fault Charles was not with her. I knew that some outside force had given her this anger. I know the blame should be put on me, but I did not expect her to throw that amount of hate towards me. Finding out that she might be damaged in that was really scared me. (Bob The Interviewer): According to L Engle, That it has to be me. It can t be anyone else. I don t understand Charles, but he understands me. I m the one who s closest to him. Father s been away for so long, since Charles Wallace was a baby. They don t know each other. And Calvin s only known Charles for such a little time. If it had been longer then he would have been the one, but-oh, I see, I see, I understand, it has to be me. There isn t anyone else (L Engle, 2007, p.216). How did you feel about realizing that it was only you who could go and save Charles Wallace? (Meg): Knowing that I was the only one who can go and save Charles Wallace alone was very devastating. It is frightening to know that I really don't understand him yet understands me. Though I still understand that it had to be

4 me because I was the one who was most closest to him. I was scared when I knew that I had to tesser back to Camazotz and face Charles Wallace where that disembodied brain IT was controlling him. (Bob The Interviewer): That must have been hard for you, Meg. This question is for you, Ms. Whatsit. L Engle states, That s what every parent wants. He looked into dark, frightened eyes. I won t let you go, Meg. I am going. No. Mrs Whatsit s voice was sterner than Meg had ever heard it. You are going to allow Meg the privilege of accepting this danger. You are a wise man, Mr. Murry. You are going to let her go (L Engle, 2007, p.221). Why feel the need to stop Mr. Murry from saving her daughter from potential harm? (Ms. Whatsit): I felt the need to stop Mr. Murry from his actions because he was not made for the job to go and save Wallace. I knew that Meg understood why she had to go and I agreed to the situation where she was the only one closest to him. She was the one who most knew him meaning that she had to go in alone to save Charles Wallace. Meg was the only hope of the group to go and save Charles Wallace she had the most success out of anyone she was the one meant for saving Charles Wallace. (Bob The Interviewer): At the end of the book, L Engle states, Now she was hugging him close to her, and his little arms were clasped tightly around her neck. Meg, you saved me! he said

5 over and over again (L Engle, 2007, p.230). How did it feel to finally be released from the grasp of IT? (Charles Wallace): I mostly felt free when Meg released me from the control of IT. I also was happy and full of joy to see Meg knowing that I can hold her hand again and follow wherever she went. We were finally united as a family. When I was holding Meg tightly from the neck the only thing I could say was Meg you saved me!. (Bob the Interviewer): Well ladies and gentlemen you ve read it all!
