AI am a German who wishes this wasn t happening. I wonder how the citizens of the country I once adored can watch all of these people die and not even care. I hear the cries of the Jewish family I am hiding, scared they will be discovered. I see them trying to comfort one another. I want to keep them safe. I am a German who wishes this wasn t happening. I pretend I am not worried about the Nazis finding the family and killing us all. I feel devastated that the Jewish people have to suffer. I touch their kind hearts, knowing they didn t deserve this. I worry that we will be discovered. I cry for all of the Jews. I am a German who wishes this wasn t happening. I understand that the other Germans think Hitler is telling the truth. I say Hitler is a cruel liar. I dream that everything will go back to normal and the Jews will be safe. I try to stand up to Hitler, but I know I will be killed. I hope the Jews will stop being tortured. I am a German who wishes this wasn t happening. --Courtney S

A Jew in a concentration camp I am a Jew locked away in a terrible place. I wonder if anyone will ever come to save me. I hear the screams of other Jews as they are pulled away from their family. I see people I am not familiar with, I am lonely. I want to leave from this place. I am a Jew locked away in a terrible place. I pretend that I will see brighter days. I feel sadness when I see people die here. I touch these baggy clothes I have to wear. I worry that I am not going to survive this. I cry when I see the Nazis with their big guns. I am a Jew locked away in a terrible place. I understand that I might not be able to ever see my family again. I say Let me out of here! but they don t care. I dream of all of us being able to live, not die! I try to keep a happy spirit but it doesn t help. I hope I will live. I am a Jew locked away in a terrible place. --Addie L
I am a guilty and afraid bystander I wonder what would happen if I spoke out for what I believe in I hear the soldiers talk about the Jews I see the pain they go through I want to be helpful I am a guilty and afraid bystander I pretend that one day I will make a difference I feel I am doing wrong I touch my face to wipe away the tears I worry about the Jews and their lives I cry about what is happening to them I understand that I can t stand up for my belief I say I agree with the Nazis even when I don t I dream one day I will change the Jews lives I try not to feel so guilty I hope that I can be a hero to the Jews one day I am a guilty and afraid bystander --Ally F
A Jew in a Concentration Camp I am scared and frightened I wonder if I will live I hear helpless screams I see the Nazis I want to return to my home I am scared and frightened I pretend that I m not here I feel hopeless and dejected I touch the hard ground I worry that I m next I cry because I miss my family I am scared and frightened I understand they will never let me leave I say to myself, Don t worry. It will be all right. I dream about my family, gathered around the dinner table I try so hard to forget that I might die I hope I will survive I am scared and frightened --Anna L
A Jew in a concentration camp) I am a Jew I am a Jew. I wonder why they can t see who we really are. I hear heavy breathing and whimpering. I see tears and smoke. I want to live my life. I am a Jew. I pretend to be ok with how they treat me. I feel abused and misjudged. I touch my Star of David I worry my faith has expired. I cry about my life. I am a Jew. I understand that I won t live long. I say I won t give up I dream that this would end already. I try to do what they say. I hope to be freed I am a Jew.!!!!!!!! --Claire J
A Hiding Jew I am special and one of a kind. I wonder if I will ever be free. I hear the happy people. I see the day when all is well. I want the war to be over. I am special and one of a kind. I pretend the world is good. I feel the sea breeze. I touch the lost. I worry the world will be like this forever. I cry over all who have died. I am special and one of a kind. I understand that the people are cruel. I say we will make it through this. I dream of a happy world. I try to be happy. I hope that they see this is wrong. 9 A German Who is a Bystander and Doesn t Get Involved: I am a German and I do not agree with Hitler. I wonder how someone can think so bad of a race to eventually dispose of all of it s kind. I hear the screams and cries of the innocent Jews that are executed for nothing. I see my beautiful family, and am glad that they don t have to suffer like Jews do. I secretly want to help all the Jews, to rise up against Hitler and end this misery. I am a German and I do not agree with Hitler. I pretend to agree with Hitler, I don t want to be different than the rest of my kind, even though that is wrong. I feel helpless against Hitler. He is so powerful and I am so weak alone. I touch the attic door, which could have saved a family s life if I had acted sooner. I worry that Hitler will soon find another flaw in a race that I fit into. I cry about the way I take everything for granted and how I should have acted against Hitler. I am a German and I do not agree with Hitler. I understand that Jews are dying for no reason. I say that Hitler is wrong, but only in my mind. I dream about being sent to these treacherous camps that I hear about. I try to get enough courage to stand up for this race, but I never have enough. I hope that this misery ends soon. I am a German and I do not agree with Hitler. --Holly Sherburne
I Am poem A German who does not agree with Hitler s tactics I am an unheard voice. I wonder if this war will ever end. I hear the Nazis going from house to house searching. I see them beating down doors and harming innocent people. I want people listen to what I have to say. I am an unheard voice. I pretend that this isn t really happening to my country; that is just a dream. I feel guilty because I can t help them. I touch my Bible and I think that this is wrong. I worry that they will find the family that I have tried to keep hidden. I cry for the people that are starving and neglected I am an unheard voice I understand why Hitler is trying to get through their heads that is not right. I say to myself, the Jews have done nothing to deserve treatment like this. I dream that everyone be treated equal. I try to grasp what is happening to the Jews. I hope that this dark time will end. I am an unheard voice.!!!!!!!!!!!!!! --Holly Y

A Jew in a Concentration Camp I am a Jew who has a kind heart but is misunderstood I wonder why they are keeping us here I hear the screams of the innocent dying without answer I see death as it makes its way over to me I want to get out of here and be free I am a Jew who has a kind heart but is misunderstood I pretend that this is all just a dream I feel the sharpness of the cries for help from the other Jews as it pierces my heart I touch the thickness of the air where I live I worry that my time to go is getting closer and closer I cry that many of my innocent brothers and sisters are dying I am a Jew who has a kind heart but is misunderstood I understand that the Germans don t like us I say that we are kind hearted but they do not listen I dream of getting out of this place and living a good life I try to make it better with fun and games but it never works I hope my death is fast so I can go on and be with my family I am a Jew who has a kind heart but is misunderstood --Cameron G

I want to have a great life but don t know if that s possible. I am a Jew in a concentration camp. I pretend nothing is wrong with me when deep down there is. I feel the warmth of the sun shining down on me. I touch people when forced to go somewhere. I worry that they will take me. I cry because I think the worst. I am a Jew in a concentration camp. I understand I have to listen to the soldiers. I say always try to believe there is hope out there. I dream I am in a happy place. I try to do what they tell me is right knowing it s not. I hope someday I will get out of this terrible place. I am a Jew in a concentration camp.!!!!!!!! --Riley W
