1 A Call to Action Master Minded Ministries February 2014 For Such a time as this we are called to serve! Awareness is Not Enough! By Pastor Dave McGarrah Have you ever had someone make you aware of something really important that prompted you deep inside to rise up and take action regarding the situation? How about the person who has battled a physical infirmity for a lengthy amount of time? They go from doctor to doctor and have a battery of tests done. They are so frustrated because they haven t been able to find anyone who can put a finger on the issue until one day. They receive a phone call from their most recent physician asking if they can come to the office. It s then revealed that they ve been able to discover what the issue is, and, what s causing it. Needless to say, there would be incredible relief. Is it fixable? Is there a cure? Can something be done? And the reply comes, Yes, but it will require some surgery. They head back home with a tremendous amount of gratitude because they finally know what s going on. Question: Is the issue fixed? Has anything changed? Is everything well now? More inside! 2 Pg P r a y in g a t th e W e s te r n W a ll If not you, Who? This was the question that Mordecai asked Esther This is the question for today. Who will stand in the gap? Let s do it together for His Glory!
Awareness is Not Enough continued from page 1 You already know the answer, Awareness Is Not Enough! No matter how relieving the information was, without some action and follow through, there will be no change. The same is true when it comes to Standing With Israel. You can be well educated, up on all of the latest situations, and even have a compassionate heart towards the Apple of God s eye. But awareness is only the first step. Just recently Jer and I returned from a quick trip to San Antonio, Texas for an informational training time with CUFI (Christians United For Israel). I was a bit shocked when they shared the following statistics with us. They walked us through the growth of CUFI over the past 8 years since its birth. From just over 8,000 members, to now exceeding 1.6 million. Those numbers are fantastic. But what struck me was this statistic: Out of 1.6 million people who have a heart for Israel, only about 33,000 are responding to the Call For Action alerts that have been sent to the members of CUFI. When an issue arises that needs action, CUFI sends out a mass alert that provides a very simple way to respond and it gets the message effectively communicated to Nunc whatever cursus area magna of the Country quis needs to hear from CUFI or the leadership in DC who are making decisions that will impact Israel and our support as a Nation. Jer and I feel so keenly about this issue, and each of you reading this newsletter share our heart for Israel. We want to do all we can to help move all involved to action. And the reason for this issue of the newsletter is because we are living in such critical times. So, here s what some action steps might look like: Contact your Congressional leaders It s easy and effective. Simply put their name in the Google slot and it will pull up their website, which includes a box that you can write your in. The next time an issue arises, take 10 minutes and you can share your heart with those who represent you in DC. Buy Israeli Goods Unfortunately too many nations are calling for a boycott of products from Israel. Make it a point to support Israel in what you buy. Attend the CUFI Summit in DC with us the dates this year are July It s one day shorter, which means it will be cheaper to attend. You can read all about it at You can register there, you can get your hotel reservations made, see the speakers lineup and much more. This is also the chance to go up to Capital Hill and connect with all of our Congressional Leaders. Support A Night To Honor Israel In Your Area Be watching for any opportunities to attend one of these amazing nights. There could also be a church or two or three that does a Standing With Israel evening. Either way, make it a point to attend and invite others to do the same. Stay Informed It s one of the best things you can do for yourself and others. It s what enables you to speak intelligently about the issues Encourage Your Pastor To Get Involved We don t have enough Pastors who are willing to speak about Israel and the issues concerning her. If you attend a church where there is never anything from the pulpit regarding Israel, encourage your Leader to get informed and pass that education on to the flock Travel To Israel Make the trip of a lifetime. It s a way to bless Israel and, you ll receive an unforgettable blessing yourself. These are only some of the ways that we can take action. We can make a difference, and God will bless our efforts. Remember, Awareness Is Not Enough! We love your heart. Any of you reading this who support Master Minded financially are taking action. You keep the radio programs on the air, the newsletter printed, stamped and delivered to many readers, and you send Jer and I to represent you at any and all of the CUFI events. Words can t express the depth of our gratitude toward you no matter how large or small your gifts may be. WE THANK GOD FOR YOU! 2
1 Senate Bill 1881 by Jerri McGarrah This past year we ve seen the efforts of the sanctions against Iran totally undermined by this administration. President Obama, totally under the table, started negotiating with the new leadership of Iran. When Iran agreed to come to the negotiating table, it was because the sanctions against them were working and now with the influx of 6 billion dollars a month from our government, we are seeing renewed life with their efforts to continue their pursuit of nuclear war power. Christians United for Israel has continued the support of sanctions for the last 8 years. After returning from a recent trip to San Antonio where we had the privilege of hearing from experts like Gary Bauer and others from Washington DC, we are stepping up our efforts to help support this new bill that will keep a check on Iran s progress. I would like give you a summary of this bill. What does it take to Make a difference? December 2013 Asking yourself this question Am I willing to live for the things that I would die for? The Nuclear Weapon Free Iran Act of 2013 (S. 1881) The Nuclear Weapon Free Iran Act of 2013 (S. 1881), authored by Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL), aims to strengthen American diplomatic efforts to prevent Iran from achieving a nuclear weapons capability. Praying a dangerous prayer Lord, what would you have me do? If you ask me to go, I ll go. If you ask me to step up, I ll do whatever you ask of me. The legislation meets the president s request that no additional sanctions be imposed during the talks. New sanctions, provided for in the bill, would be suspended for up to a year to facilitate negotiations for a final agreement, and could be suspended further if an acceptable final agreement with Iran is reached. Finding a voice Take the opportunities to write to your elected officials, to call and take action when the alerts are given. The legislation codifies President Obama s pledge that new sanctions will be forthcoming if a final agreement cannot be reached and that any deal must make it impossible [for Iran] to develop a nuclear weapon. 4. If not you, then who? If not now, when? Key Provisions Provides Negotiating Space as Requested by the President The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. Romans 8:19 3 Allows the president to suspend the initial application of new sanctions for up to a year
Senate Bill 1881, continued while negotiations with Iran proceed. Allows the president to further suspend the sanctions for specified periods if an acceptable final agreement with Iran is reached. Establishes Strict Congressional Oversight of the Negotiations Requires sanctions suspended under the interim agreement between Iran and the P5+1 to be reinstated if Iran breaches the agreement or an acceptable final agreement is not reached. Provides a mechanism for Congress to express disapproval of the president s decision to suspend sanctions. Requires Further Reductions in Iranian Oil Exports Sanctions countries that fail to reduce their oil imports from Iran by at least 30 percent within a one year period and to virtually zero within two years. Targets Additional Strategic Sectors of the Iranian Economy Expands sanctions to the remaining large sectors of the Iranian economy, including shipbuilding, mining, construction, and engineering. Tightens Financial Sanctions Targets foreign financial institutions that facilitate transactions in non-local hard currencies with sanctioned Iranian banks or the Central Bank of Iran. Expands Sanctions on Human Rights Violators Expands the list of senior Iranian officials subject to sanctions and targets individuals involved in corruption, diverting humanitarian goods, or aiding Iran to evade sanctions. Outlines the Acceptable Contours of a Final Agreement If a final agreement is reached, the president must certify that the deal meets several requirements before the United States can suspend sanctions: o Dismantle Iran s illicit nuclear infrastructure, including enrichment and reprocessing capabilities and the heavy water reactor and production plant at Arak, such that Iran is prevented from pursuing both uranium and plutonium pathways to a nuclear weapon. o Bring Iran into compliance with the requirements of six U.N. Security Council resolutions. o Resolve all International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA) concerns over possible military dimensions of Iran s nuclear program. o Permit continuous 24/7 on-site inspection, verification, and monitoring of all suspect facilities in Iran. o Require Iran to implement the additional protocol to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). As of this writing, there are 58 co-sponsors of this bill, including Sen. Risch and Sen. Crapo from Idaho, none from Oregon and none from California. There are 43 Republicans and 15 Democrats voting. As we head to Washington DC in July, we are, once again, going to connect with the officials of our states to encourage them to pay attention, that we are watching and praying and we will be back! Thank you to everyone who supports and encourages these efforts and our prayer is that you may find yourself being drawn to stand with Israel and God s people. Would you Consider a letter? Idaho Senators Mike Crapo Jim Risch mail Oregon Senators Ron Wyden Jeff Merkley 4
The Cascade Effect by Jerri McGarrah Every generation has its challenges. Every generation has an opportunity to prove its worthiness to take its place in the world. We are no different. We could go for a walk and revisit the beginnings of this great nation. We could sit in the halls where the great minds and hearts struggled to frame a constitution and hear the concerns and speculation at the price it would cost to declare independence. We could watch as that struggle ensued in the streets and cities where people had to face the consequences to the actions of their elected leaders. The price was high and it took its toll in young lives who were willing to fight for the rights of their families to live in freedom from the tyranny of England. We could walk through the fields where the civil war took place and feel the overwhelming dilemma of a nation that struggled with itself over serious issues of slavery and the right of individuals who were of a different color. You can almost hear the cries of the wounded calling through the trees and across the open fields where thousands gave their lives for what was precious to them. If you ve been to Washington DC and stood at the Lincoln Memorial and read the words of this gentle giant of a man, you can hear the ache in his own heart for the staggering pressure of the hour. Both of the world wars of the early 1900 s carried a serious concern for people around the world at the outcome and potential if evil would or could win. Again, tyranny and tyrants lost to the efforts of people dedicated to ensure that others could live in freedom and safety. Today we are faced with another very real and serious enemy. Terrorism by tyrants who are bound and determined to take over the freedoms of others, and once again, a generation has to make a choice. Stand up and speak out or remain quiet and allow evil to run rampant. Six million Jews and millions of innocent Christians lost their lives while a world remained quiet and uninvolved. The big question now is what will we do? This generation will be judged by the actions we take or don t take. I remember as a young woman of the 70 s thinking, If you give me a voice I will use it! I am wondering what has happened to those who call themselves Christians and yet remain unmoved, uninvolved and silent while terrorism is not only placated, but given merit and support. It s as if we are afraid that to challenge the tyranny, we will be overwhelmed by it. I am probably a very idealistic soul, but I cannot with any good conscious miss an opportunity to do something when something can and should be done. I have been in a room with Dennis Prager, a Jewish radio talk show host while he spoke to 5000 Christians in Washington DC who gathered at a Christians United for Israel summit. He spoke of this amazing thing that was happening before his eyes. He couldn t believe that people would gather to support the Jewish people. He said, and I paraphrase; For you to come here and take your time and resources to do this for us is overwhelming! You may not understand it, but for us as Jews, we are never too far from the realization that someone is always out to kill us to extinction. We have been hunted and scorned and preyed on for nothing more than being Jewish. We have worked hard to assimilated to the culture, but it s here again and for you to do what you re doing it s as if you are saying that you would open your homes to us if we ever needed help. I say yes! I will be your home, I will be a voice that says That s enough! My heart, Our heart is to give you a voice, an opportunity to share in what could be a defining moment. Consider what your heart, the heart of God is telling you. Martin Niemöller ( ) was a prominent Protestant pastor who emerged as an outspoken public foe of Adolf Hitler and spent the last seven years of Nazi rule in concentration camps. Niemöller is perhaps best remembered for the quotation: First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out--because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me. In his book Über die deutsche Schuld, Not und Hoffnung (published in English as Of Guilt and Hope)-- which appeared in January Niemöller wrote: "Thus, whenever I chance to meet a Jew known to me before, then, as a Christian, I cannot but tell him: 'Dear Friend, I stand in front of you, but we can not get together, for there is guilt between us. I have sinned and my people has sinned against thy people and against thyself.'" 5
