3 Genius I want to study, but cannot. I may not be able to pass this examination. I was born in a poor family. My parents are not educated. My stars are not good/favourable. I get sleep when I open the book. My teachers are angry with me. My mom nags me study and study always. I study much but I remember little. I am losing concentration. My parents love my younger sister more than me. I studied upto tenth class in my mother tongue. Urban students are more intelligent. I think of sex always. There is nobody in my house to guide me. I could work wonders if I had money. I could not go to any coaching centre. I lost my mother / father in my childhood. I could not concentrate as my parents always quarrel. It s all my fate and bad luck. Many a student makes such statements. You may be one of them.

4 My dear students, If you want to become great achievers, read this. I write this for such students. This is not useful for those who say, Let it happen in whatever manner it should. If you want to strive for success this book will reveal the victorious competence in you, and help you to translate your life s dream into reality. The wonderful Tower of Pisa, the Taj Mahal and the Charminar have very strong foundations because of which the structures stand firmly. Similarly, if you want to become a genius there are two foundations. They are passion and attitude. If you demonstrate these when the occasion demands, you are a genius. There lived a giant-like man in a village. He used to harass the villagers since he was a heavily built man. Nobody dared to protest against him. Once a shepherd boy came to the village and observed his misdeeds. Why don t you all join hands and fight with him, the boy asked the villagers. Don t you observe him? See, how heavily built he is! It s no joke beating him, they said. He is not too big to hit, he is too big to miss, the boy motivated the villagers unknowingly. His words inspired the villagers with courage and they could easily kill him. He was the same heavily-built giantlike man. There was a change in their perception, which led them to success. If we have a positive experience with a person, our attitude towards him also turns positive. It is the same case with him. 6 Dr. B.V.Pattabhi Ram

5 In the present-day education system, we are overwhelmed with information. But we suffer because of the non-availability of wisdom, prudence and proper guidance. Education should not only help us earn our living but it should also teach us the way to live and follow values. In the past, matters concerning prudence and wisdom were taught to us by grand-parents. They narrated anecdotes from the lives of great men, which revealed human values. Now we do not find them. The joint family system has broken up. When we were unhappy or afraid of something, our uncles used to give us courage saying, Don t worry, I m here and pat us on our shoulders affectionately. Now where are they? I am ready to play the role of your uncle. However, there is only one condition: Believe in yourself. Positive - Negative Have you seen the negative of a photo film? In that, you can see the outlines of figures. Areas that should be in white, are in black and vice versa. That s why it is called a negative. It is processed with chemicals in a dark room lit with only a tiny red bulb. When we see the positive print everything becomes clear to us. Similarly, you should take your life positively. That means you should practise the process. The troubles and difficulties you encounter are the chemicals and your hope is the tiny red bulb. We should not allow the problems to belie our hope. We should set our goal. By adopting a positive outlook we should enjoy the following benefits: Decrease in pressure No meaningless fears Increase in confidence No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.
