Brahmarshi Patriji The word.. Anapanasati.. in Pali language, means.. to direct one s total attention and awareness only on one s normal, natural breathing process. ana... means... in-breath apana... means... out-breath sati... means... be-one-with In Anapanasati Meditation, attention of the mind should constantly be on the breath. It is a joyful oneness with the breath. No mantra is to be chanted! No form of any deity is to be entertained in the mind! Practices like kumbhaka.. HOLDING THE BREATH, should never be attempted. Any comfortable sitting posture can be taken. Hands should be clasped.. and eyes should be closed. The crux of the matter is to resist the routine wanderings of the mind. Thoughts should be cut right away, as and when they keep arising. A thought-free mind is the goal. When we are with the breath-energy, the mind becomes rather empty. Then, there is a tremendous in-flow of cosmic energy into the physical body. Gradually, the hitherto dormant third-eye becomes activated.. and, by and by, cosmic consciousness is experienced. SPIRITUAL INDIA 3 July - August 2008

Be the Breath inhale softly, easily.. exhale softly, easily let your breath be a rhythm of calm your breath is rhythm of calm follow your breath be calm use your mind to follow your breath in.. out.. in.. out that is all be still be with your breath-energy let your breath-energy baptize you Anapanasati Meditation is so simple.. so very easy.. not at all difficult.. meditation can be done by any one at any age at any time at any place meditation should be done regularly.. everyday meditation should be done.. as per one s age in terms of so many minutes.. e.g., twenty minutes.. if your age is twenty years.. forty minutes.. if your age is forty years and so on and so forth.. Spiritual Health is the root and Physical Health is the fruit. Anapanasati Meditation alone gives Spiritual Health to a person. Meditation is the greatest gift to be given to our lives.. by our own efforts. SPIRITUAL INDIA 4 July - August 2008

In the year , when DADA LEKHRAJ, a famous diamond merchant was around sixty, he had an irresistible yearning for a union with the divine and he felt a strong pull from on-high. DADAJI had a divine call to free himself and be a human medium of the divine so that GOD might speak and manifest his knowledge through him. He was inspired to share with others God s wisdom. It was in response to this call that Brahma Kumari s Institution, in its nucleus form, was formally founded in the year to re-establish moral, human and spiritual values. He renounced his native place Hyderabad (Sindh), where he formed a Trust, consisting of mothers and sisters only, and placed all his movable and immovable properties in their hands to run the Institution. In course of time, DADA LEKHRAJ came to be known as PRAJAPITA BRAHMA and those who were morally re-born or spiritually regenerated through oracles of GOD Shiva through Brahma, were known as Brahma Kumaris and Brahma Kumars, and this educational institution came to be known as Prajapita Brahma Kumari s Ishwariya Vishwa-Vidyalaya. The Institution has now over 7,000 branches worldwide, with its international headquarters at MOUNT ABU, Rajasthan, India. An excerpt from the book The First Man.. Adi Dev. edit-team the year 1876 Dada Lekhraj was born in 1876 in Sindh to the Kripalani family, who were devotees of the Vallabhacharya sect of the Hindu religion. Dada s father was a schoolmaster by profession, but his son decided early not to follow in his father s footsteps. diamond trade Dada began his career in a small way as a merchant of wheat and he saved all he could from his meagre earnings. When he had set aside sufficient funds to embark on a more ambitious enterprise, he entered the diamond trade. SPIRITUAL INDIA 5 July - August 2008

Almost by instinct, he developed great expertise in discriminating the value of different gems. In a very short time, his reputation grew and his business became more and more profitable. In time, rajas and maharajas of the native states of India, as well as the British Viceroy became his clients and his friends. The King of Nepal and the King of Valaipur treated him as an honoured guest. He was invited to all court functions and was afforded the utmost respect. great devotee of Narayan From his childhood, Dada was a great devotee of Narayan. He was so fond of remembering this deity king.. whom he thought to be a form of GOD.. that he used to keep pictures of Narayan in his hall of worship. In the bazaars through which Dada passed, colour pictures were sold of Narayan. Sometimes the pictures would show Narayan in a supine posture with Lakshmi, his queen, massaging his legs as though she were a maid. Dada did not like this picture. Surely, he thought, such an idea could not enter the mind of such a deity king. Dada felt that the capacity of women was not one iota less than that of men and that it was ridiculous to treat them less than equally. Such were his feelings that he sought to find the painter of the offending pictures and commissioned him to re-paint them to show the equal elevation of the divine couple. faith in the gurus Dada s devotion was consistent and fearless. Whether in the midst of a business deal, or in some domestic function, when the time came to perform his worship, he never missed the opportunity. Even while travelling he read the prescribed chapter from the Shrimad Bhagvad Gita. Dada believed in the Gita implicitly. Dada also put aside some time to go on pilgrimages. He visited Thandura, Amarnath, Prayag, Vrindavan, and Kashi. He often invited wandering sadhus and sannyasis to be his houseguests overnight. Always, Dada was bursting with life. He was a happy man. He had great faith in his own gurus and he used to spend thousands of rupees holding receptions for them. Dada obeyed even the slightest command of his guru, regardless of the circumstance. Once, on the occasion of the name-giving ceremony for his grandchild, to which many famous personalities had been invited, Dada suddenly received a wire from his guru that there was some urgent work for him and to come soon. Dada told his wife, Jashoda, to call off dinner and prepare his clothes, because he had to go. Jashodaji could not believe it. How can you go away on such an occasion? Dada then said : To hear words coming from the guru is like hearing words from the Lord of Death. If Death comes, could I tell him to wait by saying that today is the day of the naming of my grandchild? Dada s religious devotion and his rightminded thoughts were mature and powerful whatever the occasion. When his daughters and nieces married, he held for each of them a ceremony, called Paharamani, in which clothes and household items would be given to new inlaws.. but Dada gave them diamonds, ornaments of gold inset with precious stones, and other SPIRITUAL INDIA 6 July - August 2008

beautiful jewellery worth tens of thousands of rupees. happy, contented millionaire.. Dada was a millionaire and a member of an old and well-established family. Having attained such a status, it was expected that he would marry his daughters into equally wealthy and renowned houses. Instead, when the time came for one of his daughters Puttu to marry, he chose for her a young headmaster Bodhraj of the local school. The schoolmaster came from an ordinary family, while Dada s daughter was beautiful, intelligent and rich. Dada could have had his pick of the most eligible bachelors in India for his daughter to marry, but he himself greatly respected Bodhraj because he was a religious man. Puttu had picked up much of the wisdom of her father and understood the value of having a spiritual man as a husband. In fact, the headmaster had earned the title Yogi Raj within the community, thanks to his untiring love for meditation. Graceful, and seemingly always in motion, that was Dada Lekhraj. He had his diamond shop in Calcutta and he also conducted business in Bombay. He owned houses in both cities as well as a residence in Hyderabad. At all three places, he lived at ease as the head of his family, a man at the height of his powers. And he was happy. ripe age of sixty years When Dada turned sixty years of age, his wife Jashoda said, Now we ought to go away, to some lonely spot and accept the Vanprastha life. Dada thought this over. Wait, he said : I have earned so many hundreds of thousands of rupees. Let me double the amount of our savings and then we shall become Vanprasthis. His idea was to work for two to four years more and then to give his great wealth in donation to the needy and to spend his final years in devotion. man proposes, God disposes But as the proverb states, Man proposes, God disposes, for suddenly, something happened in Dada s mind. All worldly attachment dropped away. He began to receive indescribable experiences within himself. From that point on, Dada wanted only to be left alone. He spent his time in contemplation and thinking. One day, while Dada was sitting in the back hall of his bungalow with a group of fellow disciples of his guru, he began to get a strange experience. He recognized these unique inner sensations now as the onset of a spiritual encounter but still he knew neither their cause nor purpose. He experienced a sense of heightened perception, a new clarity of mind and vision. It was the custom in India for men with religious inclinations as powerful as Dada s, to go away to the forest and live as renunciates. But though Dada s devotion to GOD was deep and unwavering, he never entertained the idea of leaving home for the seclusion of a Vanprastha ashram. SPIRITUAL INDIA 7 July - August 2008 divine intoxication A powerful intuitive grasp of reality was growing in him. He went to his own room to get away from the company of his visitors. As he sat alone, absorbed in the incomprehensible manifestations of a new level of being, he was filled with a divine intoxication.

He had gone beyond all consciousness of his body, he was pure soul, pure light, afloat in an ocean of bliss. Then he had a revelation.. a vision of the four-armed form of Vishnu. Dada s mind turned toward the Supreme Father, the Supreme Soul, the Incorporeal One. He realized at last that there is only one Satguru and that is GOD Himself. Only the one GOD can be the giver of grace, the bestower of divine perception and divine intellect. It was GOD who had sent him that shimmering vision of Vishnu. becoming L - I - G - H - T Some days later, Dada went to another location on business and he took the opportunity to stay with a friend. He was walking through the grounds of the friend s house when he suddenly remembered a spot where he used to come to practice devotion. Sitting there now, among the groves of trees, he again became detached from worldly matters. He was remembering GOD. And once again, he felt himself becoming light, leaving his body far behind. He understood that his previous experiences were not flukes, not mere flashes that would cease and leave him as he was before. Rather, a seed had been planted and it was growing continually growing inside of him. He was skillfully being prepared, through a series of successively deeper revelations, to receive the full truth, the absolute knowledge of GOD.. the Supreme Soul. During this time, Dada wrote home a number of extraordinary letters, from which it was evident that something amazing, something unprecedented, was happening to him. Either he was going mad or.. was it possible.. he was actually receiving revelations from GOD! Brahma Kumari Dadi Brijindraji writes about this period : SPIRITUAL INDIA 8 July - August 2008 Dada wrote in one of his letters : There is an abundance of wealth, abundance of wealth! I am trying to get it.. trying to get it! In the next letter, he wrote : Got the key.. I got it! I got it! In this manner he wrote five letters to us. During those days, Dada received such divine experience that his letters seemed to vibrate in our hands ; we could feel his exalted condition. In the end, he wrote : Whatever was to be attained, I now have. Now, what remains to be achieved? Finally, the day came. Dada received a double revelation and the final piece of the jigsaw puzzle fell into place. First, a vision of jyotirlingam Shiva Paramatma. The vision of Shiva clinched his understanding of his own identity. The Supreme Soul is a Point of Light and his children are made in his image. Thus all of us are truly just such tiny forms, sparks of conscient light. winding up diamond business Everything was now changed for Dada. He could no longer apply his mind to the diamond business. It simply held no interest. He decided to wind up his affairs and so he travelled to Calcutta. He had owned his shop there for so many years and yet now it all looked so strange to him, so pointless. He walked down the aisles of his jewellery warehouse, looking at the trays filled with glittering diamonds, millions of dollars

worth of gems, gleaming symbols of wealth and he felt that they were simply stones, worthless chunks of mineral. He shook his head and said : This is a meaningless business Dada, approaching his partner, spoke quietly : Please release me from this business The partner was somewhat shaken, for he was well aware that it was Dada who was the moving force behind the firm s success. He asked what reasons lay behind Dada s decision and how much and how much of a share he would ask for to be bought out. Dada gently consoled the man and said : When he disembarked in Sindh, Dada Lekhraj was a completely changed man. only body dies, not the soul Kaka Mulchand died before Dada was able to reach him. Some days later though, Dada had a vision, while sitting alone in his office Dada saw the moment of Kaka s death. He saw the soul take its leave of the body, exit through the forehead. He saw this life energy rise like mercury in a thermometer, moving up from the toes and finally concentrating in the head. Then in an instant, the soul departed. Dada now understood the process of death.. Only the body died, he saw clearly.. not the soul. Y - O - U are T - H - A - T I am leaving because I need to be free. I feel that this business is a lie and so I am going. I have received a message from GOD. I want to use this money in Godly service. Dada had an uncle, Mulchand Arala, known to everyone as Kaka Mulchand, a great philanthropist. Together, he and Dada used to dispense the donations. Just as Dada was beginning to clear the accounts with his business partner in Calcutta, a messenger came into the office with a wire from Sindh that Kaka Mulchand was ill. Dada left immediately without checking the accounts. Whatever letters and figures the partner s lawyers gave him, he accepted as true. Dada sent a wire home that basically said : Dada received God-realization and the partner received temporary royalty of worldly wealth. Then he boarded the train to visit his sick uncle. Dada s family were thoroughly confused. They couldn t believe he d sold the business just like that. SPIRITUAL INDIA 9 July - August 2008 Within a week of the vision of Kaka Mulchand s death, Dada received yet another revelation. This time he saw the deity Vishnu once again, who spoke these words : I AM THE FOUR-ARMED ONE.. YOU ARE THAT. Afterwards, other visionary figures appeared.. Shri Krishna.. Jagannathji.. Badrinathji and Kedarnathji.. one after another.. each saying the same thing : YOU ARE THAT. Dada reached a state of great happiness because of these revelations. During this period, Dada s guru showed up. Since Dada was still not quite sure what role the guru played in all these extraordinary experiences and, since the guru seemed the best human teacher he could rely on in such matters, he continued to treat him with the same respect as before. supreme soul.. SHIVA.. in the body of Dada Brahma Kumari Dadi Brijindraji, who had the good fortune to be there, writes about what happened on the night of this gathering :

light. My mind felt clearer than it ever had been. I heard a sound from above. It was as if, through the mouth of Dada, someone else was speaking? That voice was so very quiet at first, then it grew louder and louder. It was stunning. Not frightening, but simple.. aweinspiring. The voice spoke : Nijanand Rupam Shivoham Shivoham Gyan Swarupam Shivoham Shivoham Prakash Swarupam Shivoham Shivoham Nijanand Swarup, Gyan Swarup, Prakash Swarup. The guru was lecturing, and Dada got up to leave. Never before had he done such a thing. My attention was drawn to Dada. I knew that something very powerful must have taken hold of him to make him act this way. I sent Jashodaji, his wife, to speak to him. Then I had the idea to go after him also. I went to Dada s room and sat down near him. Jashoda returned to hear the guru s lecture. I will never forget what happened next. I saw that the eyes of Dada had become completely red, as if a red light was glowing inside him. His whole face had become red and even the room was illuminated with a reddish, otherworldly glow. And then something began to happen inside me, too! I felt bodiless! I was there and yet I wasn t. I was simply I am the Blissful Self, I am Shiva.. I am Shiva I am the Knowledgeful Self, I am Shiva.. I am Shiva I am the Luminous Self, I am Shiva.. I am Shiva I am the form of self, the form of knowledge, the form of light. The atmosphere was electric, more than real and my experience of feeling as if I was without a body is still alive in my memory. As soon as Dada opened his eyes, he started looking around with great wonder. Whatever he had seen had jolted him to the core of his being. I asked him, Baba, what are you seeing? He said : Do you know what that was? It was Light! It was Power! And there was an altogether new world! There was someone, far away.. there were many, they looked like stars and when the stars came down, they became princes and princesses! The Light and Power said to me, you have to make such a world. SPIRITUAL INDIA 10 July - August 2008

Who was that speaking to Dada? It was the Highest of the High. I had witnessed the arrival of the Supreme Father, Supreme Soul.. Shiva.. in the body of Dada. Dada fell into deep, deep thought ; He immersed himself in the work of solving the mystery of this unparalleled event. Who was that? What kind of power could give me such visions, such knowledge, such self-realization? Gradually, he unraveled the logic and the implications of it all ; the secret was unveiled to his astounded intellect. Yes, it was really so.. GOD, the Supreme Soul Shiva himself, had entered his body. Dada begins giving the knowledge Once he had heard the secret voice of GOD, Dada began giving the knowledge to all his friends and relatives. When he revealed to them that they were souls, they were overjoyed, experiencing God s love as it poured directly from Dada s eyes. It was an experience so powerful that they were mesmerized. And Dada himself was utterly intoxicated. He used to say to people simply : You are a soul That was enough. He wrote it also, so it would not be forgotten : I am a soul.. Jashoda is a soul.. Radhika is a soul They experienced themselves as light. Along with this came peace of mind. Their worldly desires slipped away. They began to lead pure lives, pure in eating, drinking, speaking, behaving and thinking. He educated these souls untiringly and even as their numbers grew, He gave love like a father, a completely self-less parent, with equal love for all.. patient, merciful and just. He also showed them rules and methods for making their lives as elevated and as valuable as they could possibly be. Shiv Baba was creating living diamonds. Prajapita Brahma When Shiv Baba entered Dada s body, he renamed that soul with the name Prajapita Brahma (father of the people Brahma). All those who heard the knowledge which Shiv Baba spoke through Brahma s mouth, became the mouthborn progeny, or Brahmins. And so, no matter what age they were, whether old mothers or teenagers, all who recognized him became his sweet children. They took the name Brahma Kumars and Brahma Kumaris, the pure sons and daughters of Brahma. And so an institution was created, out of the love of souls for GOD.. an institution of purification.. a sacrificial fire called a Yagya. special attention to women Shiv Baba gave special attention to women because women were greatly oppressed by the He wrote it over and over until it became firmly fixed in their minds. re-awakening.. self-realization As others came in contact with him, they too became transfixed. Men and women, rich and poor, all felt the experience. It was as if their lives were re-awakened.. they became self-realized. SPIRITUAL INDIA 11 July - August 2008

social customs. He gave them encouragement and the power to overcome restrictive conditioning and to realize their full potential. Among those who came to the satsang was Rukmini.. a lady from a very wealthy family. Her father-in-law was prominent in the local community. Rukmini was very unhappy at this time, for her husband had just died. Her friends convinced her that she might find solace at Dada s satsang. Hesitantly, she went there and sat before him and listened and immediately a change came over her. Dada s manner and his words filled her with new courage. She went home in a profound state of happiness, and she advised her family to return with her the next day. Let us go to see Om Baba.. she said. When they saw what a transformation had come over her, Rukmini s relatives became interested. Gopi, one of her daughters, went to the next satsang with her. Immediately on seeing Om Baba she felt that she was in the presence of GOD. The supreme Soul had come secretly into the body of Baba. Gopi experienced many visions, including the realization of herself as a pinpoint of light. She became known as Didi Manmohini and, along with Dadi Prakashmani, she became a co-administrator of the Brahma Kumaris until she left the body in July, birth of Om Mandali In those days, it was the custom in Sindh that when anyone died, women of the family were to wear black clothes and spend their days in ritual weeping. Hirdaya Pushpa s mother was caught in this same web of tradition, but after meeting Brahma Baba and experiencing the spiritual knowledge, she was able to put aside those burdens of social restraint. She overcame her shyness and her sense of limitation and broke away from all the rather dehumanizing customs which Indian women were subjected to. She threw out the dirty clothes she had been wearing and began to live in freedom and happiness. Many women who listened to Brahma Baba s liberating message found the courage to adopt these reforms. Overnight, they changed their outlook radically and sent shock waves through their families by displaying so much personal power over their own lives. It was an unheard of development in that custom-bound land. The people of Sindh were amazed at the results and a general feeling of respect for Om Mandali grew in the community. Habits and social customs which were recognized to be bad.. but which no one had been able to change.. were overturned by this spiritual knowledge. Personal problems that people had experienced throughout their lives were resolved with Brahma Baba s help. No wonder, then, that the fame of Om Mandali spread and many families began to send their daughters there for the satsang. Baba s right hand.. Om Radhe One girl stood out from all the rest. She took the message completely to her heart. Because of this total dedication, she transformed herself into one of the world s most extraordinary personalities. Her name was Radha, and they called her Om Radhe. She SPIRITUAL INDIA 12 July - August 2008

was discreet, compassionate and virtuous and her intellect was very powerful. She was able to digest the knowledge as no one else could, revising it in her mind and bringing out its many subtle implications. In college also, she had always been first in her class. Now she was able to mobilize all her intellectual resources in the service of GOD and she became Brahma Baba s right hand in the work of the upliftment of society. From the moment she first heard Brahma Baba speak the knowledge, she instantly recognized that here was the true meaning of life. Before Om Radhe started coming to the satsang, or had ever met Brahma Baba, her presence had been pre-cognized. Once in a vision, Jashodaji, Baba s wife, experienced that Radhe would be Empress Lakshmi in the future and that she, Jashoda, would give her the kingdom. Once Radhe arrived, the meaning of that vision became clear. For, Radhe quickly became a storehouse of knowledge and energy and so her name was changed to Jagadamba Saraswati, the world mother, the goddess of knowledge. Dadi Nirmal Shantha Brahma Baba did his best to interest his own relatives in taking Shiv Baba s knowledge, believing that charity begins at home. Baba s wife and daughter-in-law had always been religiously minded and had always had the highest respect for Baba. They knew without doubt that someone else was regularly taking over Baba s body and speaking through his mouth. And the power which that other personality was exerting was so intense, the guidance offered so high and noble, the language so poetic, the ideas so liberating, that it was clear to them that this could be none other than Shiva, the Supreme Soul, GOD. They did their best to follow his directions. They practiced stabilizing themselves in soulconsciousness. They made continuous efforts to integrate in their minds the various points of knowledge. They constantly worked on improving their level of virtue and detachment. Finding them well set on the right path, Baba s attention turned to his older daughter. Before Shiv Baba s arrival, Brahma Baba had married her into a wealthy Sindhi family. Now, after acquiring the knowledge, he felt he had made a mistake tying her down into a relationship. He felt that it was his duty to show her the way of the knowledge. Here is what his daughter, who is known as Dadi Nirmal Shantha has to say about experience : Before becoming God s instrument, my father s life was really already full of princely decorum and devotion. So, Baba gave me in marriage to a person who was wealthy and of great prestige.. the Mukhi of the city. A festival was being celebrated, and Baba invited me for dinner. When I got there, I saw a number of girls and mothers listening intently to the knowledge, while another group was enjoying a dance. It was not an ordinary dance, they seemed in a state of deep concentration. I saw peace, love and a unity with GOD on their faces. I felt the energy, the sense of grace, the power of purity that charged the atmosphere. When the dance appeared to be over, I asked one of them what she had experienced. But I saw right away that show was still deep in that consciousness, far beyond sound and not yet able or ready to leave that happy place in order to explain. It must have been difficult for her even to speak. In a slow voice, she said : I will tell you tomorrow. I had a tremendous desire to hear what she would say. So I went to Baba and told him to send me the car tomorrow and I would come. Baba SPIRITUAL INDIA 13 July - August 2008

said, All right, daughter, let us see tomorrow. I didn t feel happy with his answer. I said, Baba, why do you speak like this? Baba said, We have the idea to send the car but let us see what happens tomorrow. I had been brought up with such complete attention, receiving everything I asked for, that I was unprepared for this response. Baba had never spoken to me before in such an ambiguous manner and, in my ignorance.. I took it to be an insult. Before, if I had told Baba to bring down the stars from heaven, he would have done so. Now he was hesitating even to offer me the use of the car. I got very angry and left the house. But, Baba followed me, put me in the car and drove me back to my father-in-law s house, making sure I arrived safely. Yet, I felt he was just trying to patch things up and as I got down from the car at my destination, I said in a huff, If you don t send the car tomorrow, I will not come. I remember very clearly what Baba said then, because it struck me to the quick. His eyes were laughing though his voice was subdued : Daughter, he said, Would you really know what is going to happen tomorrow? I responded, Whatever happens tomorrow, we will see tomorrow. And, I went inside. I fell asleep almost immediately, but around two or two-thirty in the morning I awoke with a start. A flood of light filled the room, an unearthly light. I knew it had no physical source. In the midst of the illumination was Baba. At first, I could not believe what I was seeing. When the vision faded, I closed my eyes and tried to sleep again. I told myself that because of my talk with Baba earlier that evening, he had come into my mind in such a powerful way, that it was nothing more than a kind of dream. Yet, after a little, the room was once more inundated with divine light. It was beyond belief. But, I forced myself to sleep again. It was too much for my mind to comprehend. And yet there was to be no escape from the truth. For a third time, Baba appeared and this time Shri Krishna was standing beside him. Baba spoke to me in the sweetest tone I had ever heard : Daughter! Wake up! You have to do the work of world upliftment! I fell asleep again with blissful feelings spreading throughout my mind. By morning, the visionary scene had repeated itself many times over in my consciousness and I felt I should go immediately to see Baba. But as soon as I tried to get out of bed, I began to feel such tremendous pain in my body that I fell back, helpless. At sunset, Baba himself came to see me. When he came into the room I began to shed tears of love. I could not control myself. I was filled with repentance and recognition. I embraced him. Baba, I said through my tears, now I have recognized you.. now I will do what you ask me to do. From that day, I entered a new life. need for seclusion.. Kashmir After serving to bring transformation to so many people in so short a time, Dada felt the need for seclusion. He took the family to Kashmir. Meanwhile, those who had been coming to the satsang continued to meet together to meditate and to discuss the knowledge. Brahma Baba SPIRITUAL INDIA 14 July - August 2008

regularly sent letters, one per day, to those who had been awakened. When Baba returned from Kashmir, his eyes sparkled to see so many new souls present at the satsang. Meeting Brahma Baba was an unfailingly rewarding experience. To be in his presence was to be in peace. The coolness of his mind and senses made others also cool. Brahma Baba s gatherings It was not just adults who received experiences at Brahma Baba s gatherings. Even little children were lifted into bliss, enjoying visions of Satyug, the heavenly world to come. Many of those children remained with Brahma Baba from those early days growing up in the service of the Yagya, continually experiencing the joy of being near GOD. Such were the responses of those whose lives were forever changed. The wealthy and the poor sat side by side in brother-hood. It was a simple satsang and yet it seemed a royal court somehow, like the court of Indra, the famous deity of Indian mythology. The satsang continued to grow and, with the increase in numbers, a formal structure was needed. A variety of classes was necessary for the people at different levels of spiritual development. The knowledge had to be revised and organized into books so that it could be made available to the public. All this took administrative leadership and money. Therefore, Brahma Baba appointed someone to be in-charge and he donated all of his considerable fortune to furthering the spiritual academy. Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya In October 1937, Om Radhe and eight other women formed a Trust Committee for the new institution, which was called the Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya.. The Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University. gave away entire wealth to the Trust Om Radhe took charge of administrating the institution and she became the leading teacher. Thereafter, Brahma Baba gave away his entire worldly wealth and property to the Trust Committee. He gave the responsibility of the university s affairs into the hands of the women. His sole task now was to faithfully fulfill the role of being God s medium and to take responsibility for being a complete example of surrender to the will of GOD. Om High School Whole families were now joining Brahma Baba s gathering and they wished that arrangements could be made for their small children to receive an education there, both conventional knowledge.. the skills of reading, writing, and arithmetic.. as well as the spiritual knowledge, in this peaceful environment. Practical subjects such as carpentry and sewing were also to be included. Brahma Baba had also had this idea from the very beginning. For, if little children could be raised on the principles of purity and virtue, great benefit to the world could be accomplished through them. So plans went ahead and were quickly implemented. 18 A boarding school called Om High School was opened for children, using Brahma Baba s own new house for the facilities. The work of the spiritual university went on.. men, women and children continued taking the knowledge. Through the power of meditation they discovered the strength to transform their personal lives. Karachi to Mount Abu August, it was declared that India would be partitioned. Two or three years had passed since the relatives of the Yagya members had migrated to India from Pakistan. In the year 1950, the children prepared to leave Karachi. But the Yagya Children had Shiv Baba s command to go to India so they made arrangements for passage by steamship from Karachi to Okha. They sold the buildings they had lived in. There were four hundred Yagya members in those days. When their luggage was piled at Karachi port, a crowd of people gathered. Muslims and Pathans helped the four hundred white-clad yogis to embark. Mount Abu All the Yagya members disembarked at the port of Okha. From there, they went by train to Mount Abu. The whole mountain is a pilgrimage place for saints and sages and here is Prajapita Brahma s secret memorial.. the lovely temple of Dilwara. In this shrine are two statues of Adi Dev One idol is black, one white, representing Brahma Baba s transformation from impurity to perfection. In the temple s inner walls are one hundred and eight niches, each containing a statue of a yogi in meditation. An atmosphere of solitude and silence prevails. god s works goes on.. Madhuban Speedily, God s work went on. The Yagya had been in Sindh for thirteen years.. from the year 1937 to with twelve years spent in isolation from outside people and then, one year spent in practising profound meditation or tapasya. In this way, they made themselves immune to negative influences, becoming constant yogis. Then, at last they were ready. Now they were each a river of deep, spiritual knowledge. Thus did the children of GOD begin their task of raising India and the world once more from degradation to purity. The Yagya members were soon well settled in Brij Kothi, which they renamed Madhuban. Daily, the flute of knowledge played on, while the children grew ever stronger. When time allowed, Brahma Baba took them walking in the hills. People who happened to see them stared in wonder at this white parade of graceful shaktis. Brahma Baba himself was well over seventy years of age. Still, he walked faster and more surely than any of them, as if the heavenly kingdom lay just over the ridge. They rested on the top in meditation, Baba spoke some jewels of knowledge and then simply by the look in his eyes, the shaktis would go into deep trance. Baba used to say : Daughters! You have the knowledge ; it is very wonderful. In fact, it is invaluable. It has been lost for a long time. When you SPIRITUAL INDIA 16 July - August 2008

With this knowledge and yoga, you little girls will be able to explain to even great and important people, those who today believe themselves to be GOD, or believe the soul to be the Supreme Soul, you will be able to make them understand GOD. You alone have become the instruments for awakening the men and women of the earth from deep sleep. Children! don t you hear the loud cries of the worship of devotees? If you go into solitude and sit there, you will hear your devotees calling on you. Children! I have come to establish the family of divine souls. Other religious leaders established their own religions, and then the Souls of that religion came down from Paramdham (soul world) to take bodies. In this way the numbers in every religion have increased. But the re-establishment of the divine religion of deities is a different sort of work from theirs. All the souls of this divine religion are already here on earth, but, they have forgotten themselves and have become degraded, so you have only to do the work of awakening them. Get them to remember their original religion and also their dynasty. We have to give them the aim of becoming deities and goddesses, children of the divine world of the one government and one religion, which is now being established. Following message was sent by Brahma Baba on How to establish peace in the world? On the occasion of a religious conference held in Colombo : As long as every person in the world does not know that he is a soul, does not act in soulconsciousness, it is impossible to establish peace in the world. In reality, there is only one religion and that is the religion of the soul. The religion of the soul is purity and peace. Because of the many religions today, there is much quarrelling.. As long as a human being is devoid of self-realization, he is not a human being, but rather a demon in the guise of a human being and as long as he is demon-like, can there be peace? I am sending you a treasury of the jewels of Godly knowledge. Please think them over 18 th January, 1969 On 18 th January, 1969 at the age of 93, Brahma Baba vacated his body.. achieved the final stage of perfection. The Tower of Peace on the Madhuban Campus is a tribute to the invincible spirit of this ordinary human being who achieved greatness by rising to the challenge of the deeper truths of life. material excerpted from the book The First Man.. I had a great desire to know about the purpose of my birth on this earth, since my study of books on spirituality revealed that all human beings are born with a special purpose and create their own respective realities. I had the good fortune of having darshan of great spiritual leaders like.. Satya Pramoda Teertha of Uttaradi Mutt of Karnataka, Siva Bala Yogi of Kondangi, Kaikaluru Taluk, Krishna Dist., Sri Shankaracharya of Kanchi Mutt, Swami Ganapati Satchidananda of Datta Peetham, Mysore. meeting the brahmarshi In the midst of such religious inclination, I was very fortunate to have the opportunity of meeting Brahmarshi Subhash Patriji in the year 1990 at Kurnool, in the residence of Sri N.G. Meeting Patriji was the most remarkable and unforgettable turning point in my doubt-ridden life and has brought a sea change in my spiritual progress. Thus, the nucleus of the Kurnool Spiritual Society was formed. patriji.. a magnet Patriji s easy way of teaching the method of Anapanasati is unparalleled and the zeal and zest of Patriji in attracting aspirants is unprecedented! Patriji draws the meditators like a magnet towards him!! Patriji has, to his credit, a tremendous memory power and he remembers each and every incident and also names of thousands of individuals he has met long time ago! Patriji has read thousands of books written by almost all great Eastern and Western writers and he quotes several passages from those books in an astounding manner! The perspicuous manner in which he explains new concepts to the listeners is singularly exemplary! reading all the great books I have read all the books given to me by Patriji viz., books by C.W. Leadbeater, Annie Besant, Carlos Castaneda, Lobsang Rampa, Paramahansa Yogananda, Ramtha, Paul Brunton, Vera Stanley Alder etc., etc., with great eagerness and enthusiasm. From then onwards, I kept myself busy reading all the masterly books on spirituality obtained from several sources.. both in English and Telugu. I read all the books authored by Patriji on meditation and spirituality and also have listened to all recordings on audio and video. In particular, I came across a book written by Swami Muktananda titled Chit Shakti Vilas. The author s revelations of his experiences in astral travel into other worlds are indeed very inspiring. those days, in the years In those days, in Kurnool, in the years , we, the meditators, used to gather regularly at the residence of Patriji, where intense meditation practices used to continue till late in the night. We used to be so well taken care for our food and comfort, by Madam Swarnamala Patri! By doing meditation for long hours, I have my B.P. under control. My eye sight improved considerably enabling me to read and write without the aid of glasses even at the present age of eighty years. My wife also regularly practices Anapanasati Meditation and she has her own experiences. SPIRITUAL INDIA 23 July - August 2008

Both of us have become pure vegetarians for the last one and half decades.. thanks to the continuous preaching of vegetarianism by Patriji. Swami Nityananda When I was engrossed deep in meditation, in the midst of one night, I became aware of the presence of a half naked and hefty personality seated squatting in front of me. I was a bit taken aback, as it was the first time that a stranger appearing in my meditation. I put a question to him : Who are you?. He calmly and coolly said that he was a Sage by name Swami Nityananda.. from the State of Maharashtra in India and he usually traverses in cosmos in astral form for guiding meditators. I asked him to give his message to me. He said in unequivocal terms : You should continue to meditate regularly and propagate meditation. He also said : I am quite happy with the way of your meditation ; I will be glad to guide you in future, if need be. seeing the great sage Valmiki! On another occasion, he appeared before me in the form of a tiger and devoured me and took me to a forest and released me. There, I saw a Sage in a deep trance on a small hillock. I asked my Guru who the sage was? He told me that he was none other than the great sage Valmiki, who wrote the great epic Ramayana! I took a few steps towards the Sage but my Guru stopped me and asked me to prostrate from where I am. I did so and sought his blessings. Then my Guru brought me back to my place. kurnool pyramid and Sameer Baba While meditating in the Kurnool Pyramid, I had the good fortune of meeting Sri Sameer Baba, an age old Sage. I believe that I was the first one to have his rare darshan in the pyramid and he took me to his Ashram far below into the belly of the Earth. On my revelation of Sameer Baba, Patriji instructed to construct a platform by the side of the pyramid and subsequently a few more meditators also experienced the presence of Sameer Baba. avadhoota Sri Kasireddy Nayana I had the good opportunity of meditating in the Pyramid at Kurnool along with Avadhoota Sri Kasireddy Nayana in person, when he visited Patriji s residence. He said : When souls are in astral form they are not bound by either time or space! visit to great pyramid, Giza My Guru Swami Nityananda took me astrally, on another occasion, to the Great Pyramid at Giza in Egypt. In the pyramid, I observed that the way leading to the Queen s Chamber has been damaged. The walls in the pyramid bore figures of the ancient gods and inscriptions in ancient dialect painted horizontally. He took me to the King s Chamber. The passage leading to it is not damaged. There is a stone bed in the chamber and I was asked to lie on it. The moment I got up to lie on the bed and started meditating, I changed from astral body to causal body and flew away from the roof of the pyramid into the open sky. With the causal body, I was moving with a tremendous speed and I was able to see in the Milky Way, many worlds shining like the sun. The scenario was such a feast to the eyes and awe inspiring! After roaming extensively, I came back and joined my Guru in the pyramid and he brought me back to my place ultimately! darshan of Lobsang Rampa On another occasion, I was fortunate to have the darshan of Lobsang Rampa, the great Tibetan Master in my meditation. He took me astrally to a village shor in Tibet. There, we went to a monastery and I saw number of people sitting in meditation. Rampa Master introduced me to them. They also paid their respects to Rampa Master by prostrating before him. They offered me a drink called tsampa, which was both sweet and sour. After meditating along with them for some time Rampa Master brought me back to my place. crucifixion of Jesus Christ In another of my meditational experience, I had the good fortune of perceiving the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The Lord was carrying the big cross on his shoulders and was decked with a thorny olive branch on his head. He was moving slowly with faltering steps on account of the weight on his shoulders. He was perspiring profusely. I was very aggrieved by the scene and I offered to lend support. But, the great master denied saying that he alone is destined to carry the burden. He was then nailed to the cross along with two of his followers on two other separate crosses. He was bleeding heavily but never showed any sign of pain. When I wept, on witnessing the crucification scene, the Lord said that he is not feeling any pain, as only his body is suffering but not his soul. He consoled me saying that he will resurrect soon into this world to continue his mission. maitreya buddha I regard Brahmarshi as an incarnation of Maitreya Buddha of the New Age.. to carry on the task of spiritual globalization, spreading the Science of Anapanasati Meditation and proclaiming the august message of Vegetarianism in a most symbolic way. My practice was not growing. I spent time studying Buddhism with a group. I knew that seeking religious knowledge was not sufficient. The meditation method was too much of the mind, reciting prayers I did not understand, and everything was full of rituals. I was trying to reach my soul but I was feeling suffocated and incomplete. I withdrew from the group and continued my search for the truth by meditating irregularly, reading spiritual books, having open discussions with spiritually minded friends, and attending a Spiritualist Church with my husband Richard. Finally, my soul was in line with seeking the Truth, knowing WE ARE ALL ONE. I was at a better place but unsatisfied with my progress in meditation. However, I was not finished in India ; I was restless and knew I was not yet satisfied with my search for the right method of meditation. So I embarked on a solo spiritual journey visiting various Ashrams and exploring their particular meditation practices. I made progress in quieting my mind ; however, my soul was seeking something deeper. past-life regression therapy I learnt about a course on Past-Life Regression Therapy in Hyderabad with Dr. K. Dr. Sudha took us to Brahmarshi Patriji and he taught us Anapanasati Meditation. I felt really comfortable and very inspired by Patriji! I also have first hand experience with young people who are searching for a meaning to their lives and sometimes end up in cults and mind control leaders who promise them all the answers. Therefore, I had my own hairline reservations.. when Patriji promised similarly! i reach the end of my search! After the holidays, I continued visiting ashrams and observing other methods while practicing Anapanasati Meditation. About a month later, at Sri Ramana Ashram in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, I was meditating and a clear thought came to me : This is it. From that point onwards, I had the clearest intention : I will practice only Anapanasati Meditation.. no more investigation.. no more search.. Just before I left India, on the 16 th of March, 2007, on my birthday, Patriji announced to a group of Masters gathered at his home : Today, Pyramid Spiritual Societies, UK, is born! I was quite happy to accept the task of founding Pyramid Spiritual Societies, United Kingdom. pyramid spiritual societies, UK My days in India were running out, so I immediately contacted Dr. Sudha and asked if I could follow Patriji for the remainder of my stay, observe and learn from him if he was willing to allow a Westerner to follow him in his busy daily mission. i follow patriji everywhere When I arrived at Patriji s main office, in Hyderabad, I was ready for the journey. The following four weeks were the most wonderful, life-learning days I have ever imagined I would be privileged to experience! Patriji and other Masters were very welcoming and taught me the ropes, most of all Patriji kept stating that You are your own Master! I followed Patriji on his busy schedule everywhere he went to teach meditation. We visited Jammu, Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Solan, Ambala, Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, New Delhi, Kurnool, and other places in Andhra Pradesh. Back in the United Kingdom, returning to work was a going to be a challenge after two years of grief. However, it was very easy to start accepting referrals, and to my amazement they started pouring in at a faster rate than I thought I was ready! I took the challenge easily and reestablished my private practice in Worcestershire and London. I had not experienced such success in the previous seven years that I lived in UK!! While I was in India, my husband was renovating a room. One day, I called him and suggested that plans for the room are changed to become the first Pyramid Meditation Centre in UK! Richard trusted my idea. Upon my return, we finished decorating the room and Pyramid Spiritual Society UK was off the ground! Richard began designing the web-page. For months we adapted the material from pss.org to the English culture. In November, I sat by the computer, reached the quietness of my soul, I had wonderful conversations and experiences with Pyramid Masters viz., Swarnamala Patri, Dr. Suniti Sharma, Parimala and Srinivas Reddy, Sai Kumar Reddy, Venu Gopal Reddy, Shiva Prasad, Damodar Reddy and several other PSSM Masters and meditators. I am very grateful for all the teachings, hospitality and sharing that I received in those memorable weeks! SPIRITUAL INDIA 29 July - August 2008

Jo X Jo X.. was one of the active participants in all the Patriji s meditation and enlightenment sessions held at Pyramid Spiritual Societies UK at Worcestershire during 7 th to 24 th July, Jo X was highly inspired by Patriji s teachings and meditational experiences she underwent. Following is the feedback from Jo X addressed to Glenda Vega Fellows. edit-team Hello Glenda! I just wanted to thank you for all your hard work in organizing and making it possible for people like myself to be able to meet Brahmarshi Patriji in United Kingdom. each of us our own guru My first impression on meeting Patriji was that his outward appearance was everything that I might expect a Guru to look like, but then as he taught me, that was my first mistake.. we are, each of us our own guru in our breath! For a man who has a following of ten million in India, he is very charismatic as might be expected and yet very humble, speaking only when spoken to and showing great respect for others. only one purpose His straight-forward but direct-to-thepoint approach to teaching quickly showed me that this was not a man who was focused on promoting his own self-interests, but a man who had only one purpose in mind.. i.e., spreading the teachings of meditation to the world. To Patriji, all souls are equal and as such he does not require worship and does not permit himself to be elevated above others or to be considered beneath them. This was reflected in his teachings amongst a great many other revelations that were new to me, such as opening of the third-eye and enlightenment. becoming more positive His teachings have enabled me to quieten my mind so much more quickly now, and I am already starting to feel the benefits of anapanasati meditation such as, becoming more positive about my life, being able to let go of problems from my past and being able to relax so much more easily than before. I have come to realize how much time and energy I have wasted on thought processes and activities that depleted my energy and make me feel down and or reduced my self esteem. Patriji has shown me techniques how to overcome such wasteful behaviour and to view the world in a more positive manner. SPIRITUAL INDIA 32 July - August 2008

group meditation One of the benefits of meeting Patriji was to be able to meditate in a large group. This was immensely beneficial since it enabled me to be more disciplined and stay with the breath with an empty mind for much longer than if I had meditated alone. As a newcomer to anapanasati meditation, group meditation really helped and I would recommend it to anyone new to this science. no attempt to interpret As a teacher myself, I quickly noted that Patriji takes a keen interest in each of his students and is genuinely interested to hear about each person s own individual experiences during the meditation. He makes no attempt to interpret each experience (that is for the individual), but only offers guidance regarding moving towards enlightenment. not intimidating His focus on me, as I discussed my experiences with him, was intense and you feel as though he is trying to see past the physical body and commune directly with your soul. In any other given situation, this would have the potential to be intimidating, however, with Patriji, it was not, and I can only put it down to the fact that he fosters a safe environment of trust, where you can talk about your experiences, however abstract, without fear of ridicule. fabulous hosts In summary, the meditation events that you organized were very beneficial and as such, it has only strengthened my interest in continuing with meditation. It was a privilege to meet not only Patriji but also many other like minded masters at your beautiful home. You and Richard were fabulous hosts and took care of everyone s needs and for that you should both be commended! United Kingdom Jo X SPIRITUAL INDIA 33 July - August 2008

Patriji has visited Findhorn Community in Scotland, United Kingdom and conducted a meditation and enlightenment classes during 11 th and 12 th July, Following is a brief description about the Findhorn Community founded by Peter, Eileen Caddy and Dorothy Maclean in the year 1962 with a small group of spiritual seekers. edit-team The Findhorn Foundation Community in Scotland began in 1962 when Peter, Eileen Caddy and Dorothy Maclean came to live in the Findhorn Bay Caravan Park near the village of Findhorn, North Scotland, United Kingdom. From the sandy soil of the Findhorn Bay Caravan Park grew vegetables, herbs and flowers, including the now legendary 40-pound cabbages! The garden became famous for demonstrating what can be achieved in cooperation with the kingdoms of nature. Over time, a community of like-minded people gathered. SPIRITUAL INDIA 34 July - August 2008 In 1970, a young American named David Spangler arrived in the community and, realized that an education of consciousness was taking place. The seed was planted for a university of light ; where life itself is the school, and work, daily practice and relationships are the teachers. During the 1970s, the community grew from twenty to approximately hundred and fifty members and the Findhorn Foundation was formed as an educational and environmental charitable trust. The Victorian building with its

beautiful gardens is the home of thirty five resident members of the community and up to ninety guests at a time who participate in the Foundation s residential workshops and conferences. Eileen Caddy received guidance in her meditations from an inner source she called the still small voice within. Dorothy discovered she was able to intuitively contact the over lighting intelligence of plants - devas - who gave her instructions on how to make the most of their fledgling garden. The Findhorn Foundation and Community explores new ways of living which express spiritual and holistic values in everyday life and help create a positive and sustainable future. The community is an experiment, an education centre and an ecological village, and it includes individuals from all walks of life, business, families, interest groups, creative artists, charitable initiatives and healing professionals. People here are united by the desire to live, work and learn together to unfold a new human consciousness and make a contribution towards a better world. Following are some highlights of the life at Findhorn Community : They practice organic farming without the use of any chemical fertilizers and pesticides whatsoever. They practice the concept of Kinship with all forms of Life including the Plant Kingdom. They talk to plants and the Nature Spirits. They practice Veganism ( Vegans are vegetarians who do not eat any animal products like milk, butter, cheese etc.) They live in total harmony with Nature. According to them, all work is spirituality in action. They conduct meditation sessions and have wonderful meditation halls which are set amidst serene natural surroundings. a a a SPIRITUAL INDIA 35 July - August 2008

Neale Donald Walsch Neale Donald Walsch, with an early interest in religion and a deeply felt connection to spirituality, is a modern day spiritual messenger whose words continue to touch the world in profound ways. CONVERSATIONS WITH GOD.. these series of books.. have been translated into thirty four languages, touching millions of lives. A few excerpts from his book CONVERSATIONS WITH GOD ( Book - 1 ). edit-team BODY.. MERELY A TOOL You are not on this Planet to produce anything with your body. You are on this Planet to produce something with your Soul. Your body is simply and merely the tool of your Soul. Your mind is the power that makes the body go. So what you have here is a Power Tool, used in the creation of the Soul s desire. SOUL.. A FOREVER BEING DOING is a function of the Body. BEING is a function of the Soul. The Soul is a forever BEING. If you think your life is about doing-ness, you do not understand what you are about. Your Soul doesn t care what you do for a living.. and when your life is over, neither will you. Your Soul cares only about what you are being, while you are doing whatever you are doing. From certain states of BEING will spring a life so rich, so full, so magnificent, and so rewarding that worldly goods and worldly successes will be of no concern to you. Being is achieved only after experience. The evolution is this.. knowing, experiencing, being. Knowing is a divine state. Yet, the grandest joy is in BEING. DEATH IS A RELIEF To a doctor or a nurse, death is a failure. To a friend, or relative, death is a disaster. Only to the Soul death is a relief.. a release. There are those who hypothesize that upon death the body and the mind are dropped! The body and the mind are not dropped! The body SPIRITUAL INDIA 36 July - August 2008

changes form, leaving its most dense form behind, but retaining always its outer shell! The mind goes with you, too, joining with the spirit and the body.. as the one energy - mass - of three dimensions or facets. THOUGHT IS PURE ENERGY Desire is the beginning of all creation. It is the first thought. It is a grand feeling within the Soul ; it is GOD, choosing what next to create. Thought is pure energy. All thoughts meet other thoughts, criss-crossing in an incredible maze of energy, forming an ever-changing pattern of unspeakable beauty and unbelievable complexity. Actions are words moving. Words are thoughts expressed. Thoughts are ideas formed. Ideas are energies come together. Energies are forces released. Forces are elements existent. Elements are particles of GOD. CREATION BEGINS WITH THOUGHT Thoughts are a very subtle, yet extremely powerful form of energy. When you think, say, and act out a negative concept such as I am a loser, you place tremendous creative energy into motion.. small wonder you come down with a cold! that is out of alignment with your grandest idea, make a note not to say something like that again. When you do a thing that is mis-aligned with your best intention, decide to make that the last time. All creation begins with thought. All creation then moves to word. All creation is fulfilled in deed. That which you think, speak and do.. becomes manifest in your reality. EMOTION.. ENERGY IN MOTION Emotion is.. energy in motion. When you move energy, you create effect. If you move energy enough, you create matter. Matter is energy conglomerated.. moved around.. shoved together. It you manipulate energy long enough, in a certain way, you get matter. Every Master understands this LAW. ENLIGHTENMENT.. SELF-REALIZATION Enlightenment is understanding that there is no where to go.. nothing to do.. and nobody you have to be exactly.. except who you are being right now. Enlightenment asks you to know something you have not experienced and thus experience it. Knowing opens the door to experience.. and you imagine it is the other way around. When you have a thought that is not in alignment with your higher vision, change to a new thought, then and there. When you say a thing SPIRITUAL INDIA 37 July - August 2008 Once one becomes fully self-realized, there is nothing left to do except be more of that. It is at this stage that one moves from SOUL-WORK to GOD-WORK.

A thought or a word expressed, and expressed, and expressed becomes just that - ex-pressed. That is pushed out. It becomes outwardly realized. It becomes your physical reality. HONOUR YOUR FEELINGS Feeling is the language of the Soul. The grandest feeling is that feeling which you call love! Listen to your feelings.. Listen to your highest thoughts.. Listen to your experiences. Every human thought, word or deed is based on one emotion or the other. You have no choice about this, because there is nothing else from which to choose. But you have free-choice about which of these to select. Admit honestly to yourself and to another exactly how you are feeling. You must honour your feelings, for, honouring your feelings means honouring yourself, and you must love your neighbour as you love yourself. GOD DOES NOT RULE If you believe that GOD is the CREATOR and DECIDER of things in your life, you are mistaken! GOD created you, in the image and likeness of GOD ; you have created the rest! The CREATOR does not rule, but merely creates, creates.. and keeps on creating. GOD does not order about what GOD has created.. GOD merely tells his children. GOD s greatest moment is the moment you realize.. you need no GOD. IN-SIGHT INTO INNER WORLD Quit the outer world, so that the inner world might bring you sight. This in-sight is what you seek ; yet, you cannot have it while you are so deeply concerned with your outer reality. Seek, therefore, to go within as much as possible. And when you are not going within, come from within as you deal with the outside world.. remember the axiom.. if you do not go within, you go without. ALL ILLNESS IS SELF - CREATED All illness is self-created. All illness is first created in the mind. You take rotten care of your body, paying it little attention at all, until you suspect something is wrong with it. You do virtually nothing in the way of preventive maintenance. You do not exercize it. You do not nourish it properly. Health is the activity of a mind which does not understand its connection with ME. material excerpted from Conversations with God (Book-1).. by Neale Donald Walsch.. published by Hodder & Stoughton.. grateful acknowledgments.. edit-team SPIRITUAL INDIA 38 July - August 2008

Torkom Saraydarian Torkom Saraydarian ( ) was born in Asia Minor. Torkom visited monasteries, ancient temples, and mystery schools in order to find the answers to his questions about the Mystery of Man and Mystery of Universe. Saraydarian lived with sufis, dervishes, christian mystics, and masters of temple music and dance. A few excerpts from his book Transformation.. Methods for the Transformation of Life. edit-team MEDITATION is the most advanced transformational technique if it is understood and practiced with deepening efforts. MEDITATION brings a fundamental transformation in our own thinking. Our thoughts are refined. They become inclusive, continuously illuminating, uplifting, assisting, and lead to cooperativeness, harmony, and responsibility. Then the entire man is transformed by the effect of steady meditation. MEDITATION opens new horizons to strive for. New bridges are built in the body of the person, leading to higher awareness and to higher willingness. With MEDITATION, even the bushes and trees will respond to our frequency, and they will blossom for us. They will emanate fragrance in our presence. Our shoes and cloths, pens and pencils will last longer and fuse with us in order to share the joyful frequency waves of our being. It is wonderful to meditate and day by day discover a new level of consciousness, a new strata of awareness within our being. You will be a man or a woman who is dedicated to the service of humanity. MEDITATION makes you live in a normal and noble way while in luxury. But it also makes you live a joyful and happy life in modest, economical conditions. SPIRITUAL INDIA 42 July - August 2008

MEDITATION frees you from conditions. You act in a way that is free from conditions and according to the spiritual will. MEDITATION is great! Those who practice it gain considerable freedom from their karmic debts. In the spiritual evolution of the human being, first the INNER LIGHT is revealed, then the sound, then fire. In deep meditation, a person can see the formation of light in his head. This LIGHT gradually appears like a blue eye with a dark spot in the middle. This dark spot turns into a tunnel, at the end of which the image of the Teacher, the Guardian Angel, or the endless path to Infinity can be seen. The increasing LIGHT WITHIN sets the pineal gland into its esoteric function. This gland reactivates the pituitary body and carotid gland. These three then form a triangular magnetic field that evokes HIGHER ENERGIES from HIGHER REALMS. The LIGHT reveals THE PLAN that is behind all that is happening on this planet, as well as the person s real part in THE PLAN. People sometimes need five hundred incarnations to see the plan and their part in it. But, when the INNER LIGHT shines out, THE PLAN is seen and the true labor of the person in the plan is revealed. As the INNER LIGHT increases, one first realizes that his joy, happiness, and success depend on his own efforts. Most of our ill-health is the result of dark areas in our mental body. When LIGHT increases within us, darkness disappears. There are dark spots in our mental, emotional and etheric bodies. These dark spots are responsible for our unhappiness, misery, negativity, and sickness. Increasing the LIGHT WITHIN will dispel these dark spots and restore purity and harmony in our system. Most of us waste our lives, resources, money, energy, and time because we are not in the right place at the right time. Many people do the jobs of others. The BHAGAVAD GITA says that it is better to do your own duty than the duty of someone else. When a person cannot find his real duty, it means that he does not have the LIGHT WITHIN. The LIGHT increases a person s inner peace and inner joy. The increasing LIGHT WITHIN reveals all the knowledge a person has accumulated for thousands of ages. 46 Frederick Lenz Frederick Lenz s adventures in the Himalayas were real life-time spiritual experiences which occured in Nepal. Frederick Lenz met his master Fwap Sam-Dup (the last master of the Rae Chorze-Fwaz School of Tantric Mysticism and Buddhist Enlightenment) while he was snowsurfing on the steep slopes of Himalayan Mountains, whom he had earlier seen in his dream just a night before. The following are some of the teachings of Master Fwap Sam-Dup. A few excerpts from the book Surfing the Himalayas.. A Spiritual Adventure edit-team Enlightenment doesn t really change anything, yet it changes everything ; or you might say that enlightenment changes everything without changing anything. Most people assume that after they become enlightened, their outer lives will magically change. They imagine that they will suddenly dress in flowing robes give up working, and spend their time sitting on top of a mountain meditating in bliss all day. Before the Zen monk became enlightened, chopping wood and carrying water seemed like mundane, repetitious and boring tasks to him. But after he became enlightened, his perception of chopping wood and carrying water, and of everything else in life, radically changed. He discovered that enlightenment exists in chopping wood and carrying water, as much as it also does in sitting on top of a mountain and meditating all day. SPIRITUAL INDIA 44 July - August 2008 Before you become enlightened, the world appears to be three-dimensional, dull and boring. But in reality, the world is not three-dimensional, and if you are at all aware, it is anything but boring. Life is composed of millions of dimensions. To an awakened mind, life and even the most repetitive tasks in daily living can never be dull and boring at all, because infinity exists in all things. Once you have become enlightened, you don t have to live in a monastery, because the whole universe has become your monastery. You can lead a normal life doing whatever you choose. Enlightened Buddhist masters know that nothing in the physical or astral worlds exists for more than a moment at a time. But they also know that nirvana exists continuously ; it is constant.

So therefore nirvana.. which is enlightenment.. is certainly more real than anything physical or astral, because it never ends. The only constant outside nirvana is change. Nothing remains the same from one moment to the next, in this or any other dimension. You may think that things do, but that is a trick of your thoughts and conceptions. All things and beings are made up of vibrating energy. Nothing in the universe is really as solid as it looks. The universe is made up of end-less dimensional planes. Some planes are more durable than others, and of course nirvana is beyond change. So the closer a plane of being is to nirvana, in a way of speaking, the more real it is. Conversely, the farther away from nirvana something is the less real it is. Nirvana is the wisdom beyond the mind s knowing. We meditate and practice mindfulness to go beyond the limited concepts that keep us in relatively unreal states of mind. Beyond the limited states of mind most human beings experience, there are more durable levels of perception that exist in th astral and the causal planes. When you experience these more real levels of perception you will be happy all the time. So, the members of the ATLANTEAN MYSTERY SCHOOL practiced meditation, and discovered there are varying degrees of reality in the universe. To become enlightened, it is necessary to still your thoughts and emotions, and become empty. This is the beginning of true meditation : to empty your mind of distracting ideas, feelings and ways of looking at things.. which we, in the Buddhist Order, refer to as illusions.. and instead allow your awareness to roam through the dimensions and planes of higher light that exist deep within your mind. Enlightenment, is the complete awareness of life, without any mental modification. It is happiness, ecstasy and all that is beautiful, perfect and fulfilling in life. Enlightenment, is a perfect state of mind. It is the direct seeing of reality. The world most people see, which they call life, is really just a dream. Just as the events in a dream have an apparent solidity while you are dreaming them, so also day-to-day life seems solid and real while you are experiencing it. But when a day, an experience or a feeling has passed, it loses its apparent solidity, just as the events in a dream lose their sense of reality after you have awakened from them. Nirvana is wonderful beyond knowing. It creates all of the transient worlds, and the beings that inhabit them, out of itself. It sustains them, transforms them, and eventually draws them back into itself again. We cannot control the weather. As a matter of fact, we can hardly predict it. It is the same with day-to-day life. It is very hard to control life even some of the time, let alone most or all of the time, and it is almost impossible to predict life. But after you have united your mind with nirvana in deepest meditation, you will always be in an enlightened state of consciousness. Then let the clouds of life come. Let the rain of unhappy and tragic experiences fall, as sometimes it inevitably must, even in the lives of enlightened masters. If your mind has become one with nirvana, through the practice of meditation and mindfulness, you will remain happy at all times. SPIRITUAL INDIA 45 July - August 2008

Naturally it takes quite a bit of time to become enlightened. But it is really not so different from learning any other art : all you need is time, a good teacher and practice. When you first begin to meditate you should not expect too much too soon. The first day you start studying a foreign language you don t expect to speak it, do you? But, even after only several weeks of practicing meditation, you will begin to have more energy, and be a little bit happier. Gradually, as your meditation practice improves, you will experience even greater happiness and have more internal energy at your disposal. Eventually, as you further improve your meditation practice, you will experience ecstasy and knowledge that is beyond the power of words to describe. Each time you meditate, you create a stronger connection with the world of inner light and happiness that exists within you. Over the course of many years of practice, that connection will become brighter and more ecstatic. But ever from the very beginning of your meditation practice, you will notice that some of the brightness and ecstasy you experience during meditation will enter into your day-to-day life. Remember, as your meditation practice improves from month to month, more and more light and ecstasy will spill over into the moments of your daily life. An enlightened Buddhist Master provides his students with auric empowerment. He literally transfers light, power and knowledge into their auras. This empowerment gives his students an extraordinary amount of prana. This increased amount of prana enables them to meditate more deeply, and to accomplish other things in their lives more rapidly and with greater happiness and ease. Nirvana.. enlightenment.. these terms are interchangeable. Call it anything that you want to : its nature is perfect harmony, peace and joy. Unlike the transient days of our lives that constantly come and go, nirvana has always been, is now, and always will be. You need to experience the reality of light yourself in your own meditation ; only then will you really understand how perfect life is. Then, of course, you will be happy forever. Only the enlightened are consistently happy, because their happiness is not predicated upon the events and experiences that take place in this world. Instead it is based upon the boundless inner energy they gain from their connection with the world of enlightenment. material excerpted from Surfing the Himalayas.. 49 Doreen Virtue based on messages from angelic kingdom Doreen Virtue, Ph.D.,.. is a spiritual doctor of psychology who works with the angelic realm, including the fairies. Doreen shares what the dolphins, mermaids, dragonflies, and other members of the elemental kingdom, including plant kingdom, taught her about spiritual and romantic love, the environment, the future of our planet, and more. An excerpt from her book Messages from Your Angels. edit-team We can t die unless it s our time to go. We can mess up our lives or our bodies, and we can have close calls, but unless it s our time, death cannot ring our doorbell. Each of us creates a basic life plan prior to incarnation. This plan includes the form your life purpose will take (such as writer, healer, musician, teacher, and so on). The plan also includes some of the major experiences and relationships you ll encounter. This isn t a fatalistic philosophy. We each choose these experiences prior to coming to Earth.. our free will is entirely involved. Plus, we don t plan our whole lives ahead of time. Instead, we only devise the major intersections and some overall themes, such as the personal lessons we ll learn during our incarnation for instance.. patience or compassion. We also come up with two, three, or more ages when we will exit the physical plane and SPIRITUAL INDIA 47 July - August 2008

return to our Heavenly Home.. for instance, ages 18, 47, and 89. Each time one of these ages comes up for you, you ll have an intersection occur (such as an accident, disease, or suicidal thought) which will give you the option of going to Heaven or staying on Earth. Most people opt for longer lives so that they can be with their Earthly families for a generation or two. But some people plan early exits, and they return home before their bodies reach full maturity on Earth. Even though their bodies were small, though, their souls may have been older than yours or mine when they left the Earth plane. Your HIGHER SELF knows the different ages when you contracted to leave the Earth plane.. and you can discover what they are by simply asking your HIGHER SELF, What age will I be when I leave this physical body? Most of you will automatically hear (with your inner ear) three ages. Some of you will see numbers in front of you. Still others will receive nothing.. usually because you subconsciously don t want to know the answer. There are some who will hear an age that is just around the corner, and then hear nothing else. This can mean that your time is almost up, or that your ego is running rampant, trying to scare you. After all, the ego operates from fear. Ninety nine percent of the time, you have older ages coming up, but your fear is preventing you from hearing those numbers. Relaxation, breath, and meditation can help you hear the answers accurately. The committee that helps you draw up this plan includes the beings who will stay by your side as your guardian angels and spirit guides. You each have at least two guardian angels, from start to finish. Everyone also has at least one spirit guide, and usually more. GUARDIAN ANGELS are those beings who haven t incarnated as humans. Your SPIRIT GUIDES are usually your deceased loved ones. When you re young, they consist of relatives who passed away before you were born. These guides and angels help keep you ontrack in fulfilling your life s purpose and learning your personal lessons. They also help you avoid messing up your lives or bodies. They intervene, without needing your permission, if you re about to be killed before it s your time to die. material excerpted from Messages from Your Angels by Doreen Virtue.. published by Hay House.. grateful acknowledgments.. edit-team SPIRITUAL INDIA 48 July - August 2008

Power.. Freedom and Grace Deepak Chopra published by : Hay House, India Your essential being is the source of all being.. the field of pure consciousness that manifests as the entire universe. In this very moment, pure consciousness illuminates and animates your mind and body, and it is powerful, invincible, unbounded, and free. When you know yourself as this field of consciousness, you have power to manifest your desires, you have freedom from fear and limitations, and you live in grace, which is that state of consciousness where things flow and your desires are easily fulfilled. The Path of the Dream Healer Adam published by : Dutton DNA is considered the basis of all life forms. It is responsible for the construction of our physical bodies and the replacement of cells as they become worn out. While DNA clearly is the blue-print of life for cellular reproduction, its information is dynamic, interactive and adaptable. Our DNA is not written in stone. I can see that our genetic makeup can be influenced through subtle energy. With every intention, you are emitting light that influences your DNA. Your intentions are constantly influencing your evolution. SPIRITUAL INDIA 49 July - August 2008

The Ancient School of Wisdom Ramtha published by : Horus Publishing Inc. Now, consciousness and energy are that which is termed an empowered light force whose destiny in evolution was, through involution, to descend elevations and degrees and levels of vibration. Consciousness and energy began on the seventh level of thought, created and lowered itself seven vibratory levels to become a conscious being, that which you are. Reality, that which is cellular mass, is created from the conscious mind that is awakened, and you are the awakened that does the creating. The Early Sessions Jane Roberts published by : New Awareness Network Inc. What you consider death has no more basic reality than has your idea of time and space. Death really represents a blind spot in your present ability to perceive energy transformation, and even value fulfillment. Death merely represents the termination of your own perception, that is, the termination of your understanding. Your ability here amounts to a complete dwindling of comprehension. Your senses are not equipped to perceive the transformation of energy from one form to another. Ashrams Torkom Saraydarian published by : TSG Publishing Foundation, Inc. An Ashram contains various seeds of great beauty, and these seeds can bloom in those who contact the Ashram. The moment a person contacts an Ashram, his talents, his genius, and his beauty start to unfold. Unless a person contacts an Ashram.. a larger sphere of consciousness.. he will be the same person for millions of years. An Ashram is also a sphere of shocks, especially when dealing with the First Ray Ashram. It shocks and shatters. Coming into realization, you see that you are a spiritual skeleton. You see the vanity and futility of your dreams, actions, and plans. Shocks awaken us to reality. Reaching to Heaven James Van Praagh published by : Dutton The time spent in the many levels of the astral world varies with each spirit. Surrounded by the creations of its own desires and cravings, a spirit will remain in this region as long as it has an affinity to these energies. As a spirit cleans away the debris during its astral readjustment, it is, in essence, preparing for fresh opportunities when it returns to earth at a later time.
