A NOTE FROM FATHER Dear Parishioners, Our deepest sympathy to Eileen Attenberger and family at the death of her brother Allen Rud, and to the families of Helen Pettis, Virginia Filler, and Iris Hill. May they all rest in peace. Congratulations to Maddox son of Alex and Jessalyn Mercado, and to Isaac son of Matt and Amanda Seehusen, who are baptized this weekend. May they grow to love the Lord. This weekend, we are compressing the Diocesan Ministries Appeal, watching the Video before Mass and having the Appeal (I am planning on being at the Youth Retreat next week). The DMA reminds us that we are a Diocesan Church, and as such, we are invited to support the wider Church than our own parish. The diocese provides us services that too easily are overlooked. Bishop assigns priests to our parishes and the diocese pays for their education. These last 10 years, the Diocese has had two cohorts of deacon candidates, and we are blessed to be recipients of both (Deacon Steve and Tony Grack). The financial office has provided oversight of our finances, assisting us in being transparent and effectively use your contributions. The Diocese also provides social services like Catholic Charities that offer personal and marital counseling for a low fee, adoption services, and other aid. There is so much other good, and the DMA covers only a small portion of these ministries. Your donation is well-used, and 20% returns to your parish. Last week was National Vocations awareness week. With so many other things to preach, I failed to mention it. Each of us is called to holiness, There are three specific vocations that are public and permanent: Religious life, Holy Orders, and Matrimony. I continue to be convinced that every single Catholic needs to discern if they are called to religious life, and every Catholic male should consider priesthood. Please encourage our youth to discern God s will, and encourage them if they express interest. Please call me, or contact Fr. Matt Wiering with the Diocesan Vocations Office. In Christ, Fr. Todd JOHN IRELAND NEWS www.churchofstpeter.org/ji We are a Catholic community welcoming students of all faiths, devoted to Gospel Values, Academic Excellence, and Christian Service. During November we will give a place of honor to a Book in which you may write the names of your dead. From All Saints Day (November 1) until Thanksgiving the Book will be kept open on a stand near the altar. There are no lines on the pages of the Book. You may write as little or as much as you wish. You may write large or small. At some of our liturgies we will bring the Book to the sanctuary. Watching the video today, we are reminded of the good work the DMA is doing in ministries too big for parishes to do alone, but ministries that are important to us. Remember, in supporting the DMA, we contribute to those important ministries in the Diocese. As you reflect on what your pledge should be, prayerfully keep in mind God s generosity to you. The DMA offers a great opportunity to make return to God of the blessings we have received. This year with the theme Together We are One, Bishop LeVoir invites us to consider all that we can accomplish when people and parishes work together. Be assured that contributions to the DMA will be used only for the benefit of the ministries designated in the brochure and no other purpose. 4 Church of St. Peter

AREA NEWS 2017 Ministry Appeal We are reminded of the good work the DMA is doing in ministries to big for parishes to do alone, but ministries that are important to us. Remember, in supporting the DMA, we contribute to those important ministries in the Diocese, but we also support the project we have identified for our parish - monies received will be to reduce our debt.
