1 OUR MISSION STATEMENT: Growing In Faith Together (G.I.F.T.) Dear Parishioners, Our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Charley Regenscheid, and to Judy Bruns on the death of her sister. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Happy Father s Day to all of our dads. Despite the cultural perceptions, mothers and fathers are both important to healthy living. Too often, true fatherhood is missing in too many lives (my own included). We have sitcoms that denigrate fathers, making them look either like incompetent buffoons or cruel dictators with few examples in between. Gone are the days when fathers are by and large depicted in favorable lights. But fathers are important, especially to the fits development of their children. A few years ago, our Baptist brothers and sisters did a study that was telling. Their statistics showed: * If a child is the first in the family to become a Christian, there s a 3.7 percent probability that the rest of the family will become Christians * If mom is the first in the family to become a Christian, there s a 17 percent probability that the rest of the family will follow * If dad is the first in the family to become a Christian, there s a 93 percent probability that everyone else in the family will follow his lead Wow! That is why we are focusing on the Catholic Watchmen process. We have been gathering for adoration at midnight Friday/Saturday, men and fathers praying for their wives and children, and praying for our parish and each other. Men - here s your invitation to join us. As I told the core group, we are really good teaching men to build houses, but we have not been taught how to build homes built on the from foundation of Christ. Let s change that!!! Again, I recommend for your reading and Dads.org (both are Catholic sites). With the rest of the world, I grieve another tragic act of terror, this time in Orlando. While we have a gun problem, the problem is deeper - the problem as in the brokenness of humanity. G. K. Chesterton supposedly responded to a to the question "what was wrong with the world" with two words: I am. Until we can all understand that we are in need part of what s wrong in the world and ask for God s mercy to be part of what s right, and that all others are equally in need of mercy and our loving actions might bring that mercy about, we will continue to see such acts of terror. Thank you to the ceremonial coordinators (who did double duty as song leader and piano) and to the serving committee for the nice desserts. Lisa will be contacting members for committee roles, so if she calls please consider where you can help and if you are a snow bird or gone for a month or two in the winter, that would be nice to know when making up the Activity Booklet. Peter s Pence Collection Next week, our (arch) diocese will take up the Peter s Pence Collection, which provides Pope Francis with the funds he needs to carry out his charitable works around the world. The proceeds benefit our brothers and sisters on the margins of society, including victims of war, oppression and disaster. Join our Holy Father as a witness of charity to those who are suffering. Energy Assistance Program What is Energy Assistance? Funds to assist low income households pay heating/energy bills. Who is energy assistance for? Wage earners, seniors, self-employed people, and other low-income households. Households can request an application until July 1 st, 2016, by calling MVAC@ or or visit the

"He who sings prays twice!" ~St. Augustine Calvary Cemetery News Vases, urns, flower pots, plants, boxes, glass jars, cans, etc., will not be permitted on lots or grave, except that these or other appropriate decorations may be placed on lots or graves, (but not set into the ground), for Memorial Day or for such special occasions as may be designated by the cemetery management. However, all such containers and all other decoration must be removed within tem (10) days following Memorial Day or other designated occasions, after which the cemetery care-taker will dispose of all those remaining except all so-called permanent type urns or plant holders which must be incorporated within the wash of the monument or marker.
