Dear fellow Parishioners, I had the opportunity this week to interview St Bernard parishioner and seminarian Adam Worm. Here it is! Let s consciously work to create a parish culture supporting young people in discerning God s call for their life. August 18/19th we will have a 2nd collection which will be split between seminarians Adam Worm and Joe Lemmer. Fr. Gregory Q: Where are you at in your seminary formation? A: I just finished minor seminary at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Winona and am starting major seminary at Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit, Michigan this fall. Q: You ve been in the seminary for 3 years now. What s the experience been like? A: I ve grown exponentially in my relationship with the Trinity. It s been a powerful experience. I feel called by God to be in the seminary. Q: Why do you believe God is calling you to be a priest? A: I have always had a desire to serve God and God s people. This has always given me great joy. I desire to love everyone and bring joy to everyone, to evangelize and to mentor others. I find joy in the pastoral side of the priesthood. Q: What s been most difficult? A: Philosophy courses are difficult. Also, as seminarians we have many responsibilities. I have found organizing all these responsibilities difficult along with time management. Q: So, you re a seminarian..are still a normal person? A: Seminarians are normal.although we do joke that to be a seminarian you have to be weird. No, we re normal. For example: I was going down the path of Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics; another classmate was considering being a nurse, another a geologist; another a Physical Trainer. Q: So, do seminarians lose all attraction towards women? A: No, that s not true. The challenge is to learn to be a spiritual father and a spiritual brother to them. We have a Vice Rector who has psychology degree and he assists us with these kinds of things. He fosters in us a healthy lifestyle especially when stress, anger, tiredness and loneliness occur. Q: Has you prayer life developed? A: Oh, man! I went to the Institute for Priestly Formation. My prayer life has developed from being an intellectual exercise to being one of the heart. Prayer has also moved beyond the official prayer time into my daily activities. I am more aware of my thoughts, feelings and desires now and I relate these to our Lord. Q: How can we foster priestly vocations? A: Give boys exposure to it as a normal vocation. Expose boys to priests and seminarians who are living the lifestyle. The collections will be split evenly between them. Seminarians have full schedules & usually do not work. The collection will assist them with some of their expenses.
