2 Dear Parishioners, You may have seen the announcement in the July 12, 2018 edition of The Catholic Spirit newspaper regarding the Archdiocese of St. Paul/Mpls. settlement with the victims/ survivors of clergy sexual abuse, and how, out of a desire for the victims healing, some parishes chosen to contribute to the settlement fund. We here, at Ascension and St. Bernard, as part of the whole Christian community of faith, can also show our care, compassion and concern for the victims. As individuals, we will have the opportunity to choose to contribute directly to the victims fund in a collection at the weekend Masses on July The donations will go directly to the victims and will not fund any legal costs. No parish funds will be used. Please prayerfully consider your choice to contribute to the fund for the support and healing of those deeply wounded by abuse. More than the dollar amount is the message of healing we communicate by our free will offering. Thank you for prayerfully considering participating in this collection. I as a Catholic and especially as a priest am personally choosing to contribute to this collection. We priests and bishops and others in church leadership have grievously wounded the victims and all who have placed their trust in us. I see it as an act of reparation for the sins of the church and one way to express my desire for healing for those abused. Please join me in also offering this prayer for the abused and all wounded because of these sins: Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. The subject is how the temple set up by God for the Israelites in the desert is now replicated in our Catholic churches. The study comes to us from a Baptist who entered the Catholic Church.
