The Church at Litchfield Park A house of prayer for all people aspiring to be as inclusive as the love of God

WE HAVE GATHERED AS A FAMILY OF FAITH Third Sunday of Easter April 22, 2012 8:00 a.m. The Church at Litchfield Park, aspiring to be as inclusive as the love of God, welcomes everyone who comes to the doors of this House of Prayer for all People. CHIMES PRELUDE In the Name of the Lord arr. Mark Hayes (Words of Hymn No. 299) CHORAL CALL TO WORSHIP Easter People, Let us Sing William P. Gorton WELCOME AND OPENING PRAYER LORD S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed by Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. HYMN Jesus Shall Reign No. 375 (Verses 1 and 4) ANTHEM Crown Him with Many Crowns S. Drummond Wolff SCRIPTURE READING 1 John 3:11, 14, 16-18 SERMON Love is a Verb Rev. Dale L. Hopely, Jr. HYMN Alleluia! Sing to Jesus No. 377 (Verses 1 and 2) OFFERTORY My Jesus, I Love Thee arr. Mark Hayes (Words of Hymn No. 79) DOXOLOGY No. 815

There s a Wideness in God s Mercy No. 355 There s a wideness in God s mercy like the wideness of the sea; there s a kindness in His justice which is more than liberty. There is welcome for the sinner and more graces for the good; there is mercy with the Savior; there is healing in His blood. BENEDICTION POSTLUDE Blessed Assurance Fanny Crosby 1 John 3: 11, 14, 16-18 (NIV) For this is the message you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. We know that we have passed from death to life because we love one another. Whoever does not love abides in death. We know love by this, that he laid down his life for us and we ought to lay down our lives for one another. How does God s love abide in anyone who has the world s goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help? Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action. CONGREGATION PLEASE STAND (AS YOU ARE ABLE) **Assisted Hearing devices and large print hymnals are available for use during traditional services. Please contact an usher if you would like to use one of these.

Gorton CALL TO WORSHIP: (From 1 John 4) L: Beloved, let us love one another. P: Love is from God and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. L: The one who does not love, does not know God; P: For God is love. HYMN Jesus Shall Reign No. 375 CONFESSION OF THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY PRAYER OF CONFESSION: (In Unison) Lord God Almighty, you have defined yourself by the word love; love in action. As your children, we have been called to love as you have loved us; by our actions. Forgive us when we have considered your love as something only to be received and have neglected your love as something to be lived. Remind us that your gift of love demonstrated in the life and resurrection of Christ empowers us to love others without fear; knowing that your love for us is everlasting. In the name of the resurrected Christ, we pray, amen.
