What is written in the Law? he replied. How do you read it? He answered, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind ; and, Love your neighbor as yourself. You have answered correctly, Jesus replied. Do this and you will live. But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, And who is my neighbor? In reply Jesus said: A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. Look after him, he said, and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have. Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers? The expert in the law replied, The one who had mercy on him. Jesus told him, Go and do likewise. Bach BRINGING IN THE LIGHT WELCOME, REGISTRATION and ANNOUNCEMENTS CALL TO WORSHIP L: The scriptures declare what God desires of us: to seek justice, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with God. P: We long to be people who please God and do the things which make our world a better place. L: The task at hand is too great for a few. It will require all of us working together to make our world better; it begins in our homes and with those in our circle of friends. P: May we be inspired and empowered today to move forward where we have influence to help God s kingdom come; a kingdom of justice and mercy. HYMN Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty No. 3 (Verses 1, 2 & 3) PRAYER OF THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY Confession of the Christian Community: Gracious Lord, you have expressed your love to us in Jesus who proclaimed that you desire mercy rather than sacrifice. Help us to have eyes to see those people who have been marginalized by our society. Forgive us when we have been more focused on our own piety than righting the injustice we see in the world. Give us courage to be instruments of your justice and mercy in the world. 4

Cookbook SOUERS HALL Souers Hall will be closed for renovations. During this time the floors will be resurfaced, walls will be painted and audio-visual and lighting will be upgraded. Thank you for your understanding and patience. IGNITE AND PULSE YOUTH GROUPS Pulse and Ignite Youth Groups will not be meeting tonight. We will meet next Sunday, July 17, in Souers Hall from 5:00 6:30 p.m. Hope to see you there! U.S.N.S.C.C. GOLF TOURNAMENT The second annual U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (U.S.N.S.C.C.) Golf Classic will be held on Saturday, October 1, at Tuscany Falls Golf Course in Pebble Creek. The cadets are preparing to spend the evening of December 6 aboard the USS Missouri in Pearl Harbor. They will be part of the celebration ceremonies honoring the USS Arizona Memorial on December 7, marking the 75 th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Registration or Sponsor forms are available in the breezeway for the fundraiser golf tournament. 7

Your reservation is required by noon on Monday, July 11, to assure adequate seating. Look for the signup sheet in the breezeway on Sundays. THE 3F CLUB: FOOD, FELLOWSHIP, FUN Fall will bring a hugely popular opportunity for food, fun and fellowship! You will have the chance to sign up to join with couples and singles of all ages to create a dinner club. You will then be paired with three other groups made up of couples or singles. Once a month for the following four months, each couple or individual in your personal club will host a dinner, and other members of your club will assist. This will give folks the opportunity to meet in the comfort of someone s home instead of a restaurant to share a meal. Each group will have the opportunity to serve as host. 9 COOKBOOK Women s Christian Service Fellowship (W.C.S.F.) will be publishing a sequel to the 2002 Tasty Tea Collection cookbook. This new cookbook will be filled to the brim with the best recipes from the best cooks in our church YOU! We are asking all church members (men, women & children) to submit their favorite recipes so that they may be included in the cookbook. Please send us three or four of your favorite recipes as soon as possible. Based on submissions we will select one or more of your recipes to be included with your name or dedication in the cookbook. Please feel free to add your favorite verse or quote at the end of your recipe. The best news of all is that all of the profits from the sale of the cookbooks will be used for Samaritan s Purse Operation Christmas Child so that we are able to pack more Christmas shoeboxes. Recipes will be collected through Monday, July 25 th. Recipes can be submitted using the printed forms that can be found in the breezeway between services.
