FROM THE PASTOR S DESK... Dear Parishioners, In today s second reading, St. Paul says, Faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love. (1 Corinthians 13:13) Why did St. Paul single out love as the greatest of the three theological virtues? St. Paul was writing to the Corinthians who had newly converted to Christ. They had faith. They believed the proclamation of the first missionaries, and put their trust in the risen Christ. They formed a community in which they could share the Word of God and celebrate the Eucharist. They had hope, as well. They awaited the second coming of Christ and put their hope in eternal life. But St. Paul let them know that one thing was missing love. While they proclaimed their faith in the presence of Christ in the Eucharist, they were not acting like members of the body of Christ. In their gatherings, the wealthy would not share their food with the poor. No one was looking after the needs of the widows and the orphans. Instead of being motivated by love, many were motivated by self interest. So St. Paul taught them that what they need as Christians was self-giving love. Love is patient, love is kind it does not seek its own interests Love never fails. (See 1 Corinthians 13:1-8) Let s ask the Lord for the gift of love the love of selfsacrifice and service. As we seek to strengthen our families, our community, and our parish, this kind of love will never fail. God s Blessings, Fr. Our Pastor, associate priests, principal, staff and students thank all of the families, parishioners and friends who helped make our week a success. This year s theme, Catholic Schools Raise the Standards, highlighted our focus on academic excellence, high moral standards and faith development. Our students and staff took part in a number of activities and service projects this past week, renewing our commitment to raise the standards here at St. Francis de Sales Parish School. It is also a way for us to develop the many gifts God has given our students and teach them how to best use these in their later lives. Highlights of Catholic Schools Week projects include: Our 8 th grade students researched, created and hosted Food, Fun, Fitness, BAM!, an interactive assembly for our entire school designed to educate students and staff about eating healthy and having a well-balanced lifestyle! A number of our students helped celebrate Sunday Mass last weekend. In addition, our middle school students also took part in cleaning the Church.
