Third Sunday of Lent Page 2 Third Sunday of Lent February 28, 2016 Merciful and gracious is the Lord, slow to anger and abounding in kindness. Psalm 103:8 I AM Kindness and mercy are what the enslaved people of Israel needed, and they came in the form of deliverance. They came through a leader, Moses, who was once plucked from the Nile River and was now herding his father-in-law s sheep in the land of Goshen. The bush that burned but was not consumed shows us that God is inexhaustible mystery. Moses awe and deference are mixed with a touching conversational tone as he seeks to learn God s name. And God sweetly responds. The somewhat abstract I AM distinguishes the God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob from the minor gods in the territory who are not. They are helpless, powerless, and useless. Moses is to step out into an amazing future, and God will be there with outstretched arm. Just go and see, God seems to say. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. Third Sunday of Lent Page 4 RECONCILIATION (Confession) There is a story told of two young Indian monks who were journeying back to their monastery. They came to a fast flowing stream that was swollen from the winter floods. There, standing on the bank was a beautiful woman who needed to go across. The monks were not supposed to have contact with young women, but one of the monks offered to carry the maiden across. She accepted his offer. Later the other monk reported the incident to the assembly at the monastery. All discussion ceased when the sage of the monastery said, Brothers, one of our monks left the girl on the other bank of the stream, the other is still carrying her in thought. During Lent we are asked to make our lives simple. Especially to stop carrying grudges. The Sacrament of Reconciliation needs to be an important part of our Catholic Spirituality. We need to leave our problems with God, and not to be carrying them throughout our lives and into the lives of others. Sacrament of Reconciliation: Communal Penance Service: Saturdays, 3pm 4:30pm Tuesday, March 22nd, 7pm God Bless, Fr. Mike **** Giggles: 2 types of political speakers that should be quiet; Those who never stop to think, and those who never think to stop. Footprints in the sand of time are not made by sitting down. When we bow our heads on Sunday morning, some of us are praying and some of us are putting. What kind of lettuce did they serve on the Titanic? Iceberg. It is better to be over the hill than under it. His daughter was talking on the phone for twenty minutes before she hung up. Her father said, Wow, that was short. You usually talk for an hour, what happened? His daughter replied, It was a wrong number. ********************************************************************************************************** What do you call a rich bear? Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.
