The Church at Litchfield Park A house of prayer for all people aspiring to be as inclusive as the love of God

WE HAVE GATHERED AS A FAMILY OF FAITH Eighth Sunday after Pentecost July 22, 2012 8:00 a.m. The Church at Litchfield Park, aspiring to be as inclusive as the love of God, welcomes everyone who comes to the doors of this House of Prayer for all People. PRELUDE Breathe on Me, Breath of God arr. Iteke Prins WELCOME PASTORAL PRAYER LORD S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Onward, Christian Soldiers No. 731 Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before. Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe; forward into battle, see his banners go! Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before. BENEDICTION POSTLUDE Trumpet Tune Henry Purcell EPHESIANS 2:11-22(NIV) Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called uncircumcised by those who call themselves the circumcision (which is done in the body by human hands) remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit. CONGREGATION PLEASE STAND (AS YOU ARE ABLE) **Assisted Hearing devices and large print hymnals are available for use during traditional services. Please contact an usher if you would like to use one of these. 2

July 22, 2012 WE HAVE GATHERED AS A FAMILY OF FAITH Eighth Sunday after Pentecost 9:15 a.m. The Church at Litchfield Park, aspiring to be as inclusive as the love of God, welcomes everyone who comes to the doors of this House of Prayer for all People. WELCOME, REGISTRATION and ANNOUNCEMENTS PRELUDE Breathe on Me, Breath of God arr. Iteke Prins BRINGING IN THE LIGHT RECEPTION OF NEW MEMBERS Michael J. Pekar Don & Linda Wyman Janet Albert CALL TO WORSHIP: L: We have gathered together today as a people of God, reconciled to one another in Christ. P: We come from differing backgrounds, but we gather together in unity. L: We are but one small group and there are many outside of us, some we have formerly seen as adversaries, that we need to be reconciled with. P: May our meeting today encourage and equip us to work more diligently toward the unity that God desires. HYMN At the Name of Jesus No. 766 CONFESSION OF THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY PRAYER OF CONFESSION: (In Unison) God, you are the parent of all people and the work and ministry of Christ was intended to unite all people together. However, what you intended as reconciliation, others, and sometimes we ourselves, have used as an excuse to draw lines of division. Instead of seeing the ministry of Jesus as unifying, we have mistakenly viewed our faith in Christ as a wall to separate ourselves from others. Forgive us for turning the freedom of grace into the shackles of the law. As we have been freed from our sins in Christ, so help us to release others from their sin of division, even when those sins are committed against us. In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, we pray, amen. 3
