FROM THE PASTOR S DESK... Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Francis de Sales Church, Today s Gospel takes place at the Last Supper. Jesus begins to let his disciples know that he will no longer be with them and that he is going to his Father s house to prepare a place for them. He comforts them and tells them to have faith in him and tells them they already know the way to the Father s house. Thomas, speaking for all the disciples who are confused and lacking in understanding says to him, Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way? Jesus simply replies, I am the way, the truth and the life. Jesus is the Way to the Father. His disciples will not get to the Father s house by following a map. Jesus does not lay out a plan for them to get there he tells them, I am the way. The way to the Father is through knowing the person of Jesus. Jesus is the Truth. He makes it known to the disciples that truth is not a matter of memorizing teachings and formulas, but rather entering into relationship with the One sent by the Father. Jesus is the Life. Eternal life is not only a dwelling place in the heaven, but more immediately, the indwelling of God in the heart, made possible through Jesus abiding love. Eternal life begins in the here and now. The Gospel teaches us that we know the way. Our Christian striving is all about getting to know Christ and living in relationship. Through prayer, the Word of God, the Sacraments, and in a special way, through the way we interact with others, we see the path to the Father s house. Let us take that road and live deeply our new life in Christ. FAITH WITH A FACE ELAINE JOHNSON If you regularly attend the 7:30 Sunday Mass, there s a good chance you received Holy Communion from Elaine Johnson. Being a Eucharistic minister is just one of the many ways Elaine has chosen to serve our parish. Elaine works at the Keefe Realty office on Edwards Boulevard office assisting real estate agents with most of the paperwork associated with real estate transactions. I have a realty license because I am required to have one in order to show real estate but I am more involved in doing the clerical details and assisting agents, she told us recently. One of those agents is Elaine s daughter, Debbie Cobian. Elaine also has three other grown children another daughter and two sons. Elaine s faith journey began with being raised Catholic, receiving the sacraments, getting married at a young age, having four children and being a wife and mother. But then it took a turn. A difficult marriage contributed to her being less active in the church and eventually to finding herself a divorced mother with four children. Her journey back to a more active faith life came with guidance from our former pastor, Father Dave Braun. He encouraged her to take the steps necessary to clarify her marital status and to get involved in the RCIA. Since her return to active membership in the church, Elaine has found many ways to contribute to our parish family. In addition to being a Eucharistic minister Elaine regularly launders the albs worn by the altar servers. She has been active in Catholic Daughters and has served as an officer in that organization. Her involvement with Catholic Daughters led her to co-chair the Prayer Shawl Ministry. Women who knit or crochet make shawls for those who are in need of comfort due to illness, loss of a loved one, emotional distress or birth of a new baby. While producing the shawls, the women pray for those who will receive them and then pray when presenting the shawls. Elaine s commitment to serving others is reflected in part of that prayer: May the Holy Spirit guide us as we share of our time, talents, prayers and love in this Prayer Shawl Ministry. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION During the month of May, devoted to Our Blessed Mother, please join us in Adoring her son in Eucharistic Adoration. Tuesdays 7:30 a.m. - 7 p.m. Rosary, 5:30 p.m. Hispanic prayers, 6-7 p.m. Benediction 7 p.m. Jesus is truly present in the Holy Eucharist... Consider the abundant graces that flow from our Lord to you, His beloved child, as you visit Him during Eucharistic Adoration! As stated in a message from Jesus to St. Margaret Mary: If you believe in My love in the Blessed Sacrament, if you really believe in My love, then you shall see miracles of My Love. Sts. Faustina Kowalska, Elizabeth Ann Seaton and John Henry Newman each declared that Eucharistic Adoration was a turning point in their lives! Prayerfully, consider making a commitment to sit with Jesus and adore Him each week. In silence, He will speak to you and shower you with His graces! Begin your time with Our Lord in thanksgiving, praising Him for all of the blessings of your life... St. John Paul II called for unceasing adoration and requested us to be ready to sacrifice that we may make reparation for the evils of the world. THANK YOU Dear Friends at St. Francis de Sales, The Lake Geneva Food Pantry was delighted to receive your recent donation that was earmarked to help stock our shelves for Easter. We did indeed! With your generosity we were able to give additional holiday meals to the 150 families who come to us for help in putting food on their tables. On behalf of all our clients many, many thanks! Sincerely, Lake Geneva Food Pantry Staff

MUSIC TO YOUR EARS The first organ at St. Francis de Sales was a pipe organ. Donated by parishioner P.J. Healy (of Lyon and Healy music company in Chicago), Patrick Healy was a summer resident in Williams Bay. We have never been able to find any photos of the actual organ, but we know it was up in the choir loft and that the pipes were along the wall. We can only surmise that it looked kind of like this organ pictured in an ad from 1904. Patrick Healy was the president of Lyon and Healy. He summered in this home in Williams Bay off of Conference Point Road. The home is still there today! We re not sure why the pipe organ was replaced in the 1950 s. It could have needed too much repair. They could have wanted to take out the pipes to open up the area to move the St. Francis de Sales window from the front of the church to the back. Perhaps they wanted something more modern. We think that the analog organ by Allen was purchased for SFDS in the 1950 s, and that was used until recently. It served our parish well, but had some keys and pedals that were no longer functional and could not be repaired. Our new organ is also made by Allen. It is a 3 manual Bravura model and uses state of the art technology to create a pipe organ sound at a fraction of the price of what a pipe organ would cost. It has over 250 voices to create all kinds of music. Michael Deane researched other companies and tested other Project 2017 News, Upcoming Events & Project Updates Michael Deane teaches the 5th graders about the organ during music class. organs and this one was the best value, quality and sound! The company has been very good to work with, even sending a loaner at Christmas so that we could experiment with having the organ at the front of the church instead of up in the loft. We really like having the organ in the front of the church for ease of use and a more cohesive sound with the choirs (no delay). The organ has been an important part of the history of our parish and used for countless weddings, funerals, and liturgies. Initially the organ was on our wish list for Project 2017. We are thrilled that, through the generosity of our parishioners, that we were able to exceed our financial goals and purchase this beautiful instrument! PILGRIMAGE TO ITALY Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki and Bishop James Schuerman invite you to join them on a pilgrimage to Italy, October 22-30, 2017. During this 9-day pilgrimage, you will have opportunities to explore the traditions of our faith in beautiful churches, chapels and shrines throughout Florence, Siena, Assisi and Rome. There will be private daily Masses with Archbishop Listecki and Bishop Schuerman, and an opportunity to attend the Papal Audience with Pope Francis. Authentic Italian meals, historical tours, museum visits, beautiful scenery and more await you! Early registration price $2,999 + $429 per person from Chicago if deposit is paid by July 14, 2017. Travel arrangements by Pentecost Tours, Inc. For information, please contact Jerry Topczewski, Chief of Staff, Office of the Archbishop, (414) 769-3590, topczewskij@archmil.org.
