Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 2 Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time February 26, 2017 Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of her womb? Even should she forget, I will never forget you. Isaiah 49:15 DON T BE ANXIOUS People have, it seems, a natural penchant for misplaced emphasis on unimportant things. They can easily get caught up with what they re having for dinner or what they will wear. Often it is a tragedy that helps people to refocus on what is really important. What I shall wear is an irrelevant question when I am facing surgery or chemotherapy. What s for dinner is immaterial to those living through grief or unemployment. In today s Gospel, Jesus tells us not to worry. He doesn t say, Don t eat. Don t cook. Don t buy clothes. He says, Don t worry. Jesus asks us not to relinquish our responsibilities but to let go of our anxiety. Anxiety betrays a lack of trust and Jesus reminds us that Your heavenly Father knows all that you need (Matthew 6:32). Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. 8th Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 4 TAKE TIME TO REST IN THE LORD THIS LENTEN SEASON Lenten journey begins this week with Ash Wednesday. Can we take time to rest in the Lord this Lenten season? "Rest in God alone, my soul" is our responsorial psalm this weekend, what can we take from it? The Catholic News Network reported that on February 15th Pope Francis invited us to a new spiritual exercise where we say to ourselves: "God loves me. I am sure God loves me. I am sure God loves me." This is the root of our certainty, the root of our hope." It is easy to say God loves us, but to believe it is not always easy. Pope Frances invites us to say: " God loves me, I am sure God loves me", daily. To know that God loves me is precisely what Jesus speaks to us in today`s gospel. "Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?". "Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span? "Your Heavenly Father knows what you need. But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and these things will be given you besides." May this Lent be a trust building exercise for us where we know of God`s love for us and we fall in love again with God. May we rest in the Lord, giving Him all the worries, may we say, "Take, O take me as I am. Summon out what I shall be. Set your seal upon my heart and live in me." Let us enter into this Lenten season just as we are. Let us free ourselves and walk with Jesus these forty days and know that God loves us so much. Let this Lent be worry free and trust in Jesus, yes, trust in Jesus. Fr Innocent Subiza Parochial Administrator The 2017 Annual Catholic Appeal is our annual tradition that connects us to thousands of people who need our help every day. Our generous gifts to the Appeal help children find safety and hope, help families break through desperate situations, marginalized individuals find the strength to rebuild lives of dignity, students in economically challenged communities remain in Catholic school, and seminarians prepare for priestly service in our parishes. We may not be social workers or teachers ourselves, but we can put resources into the hands of those Catholic social service programs and parish outreach ministries that help lift people out of poverty by giving to the Annual Catholic Appeal. Please be as generous as you can. Every gift makes a difference.
Él no dice: No coman. No cocinen. No compren ropa. Él dice: No te preocupes. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
