ARCHDIOCESE OF DETROIT www.aod.org BOOK & GIFT SHOP Open weekends before & after Masses MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST FROM THE PASTOR S DESK By Fr. Terry Kerner This weekend the Church celebrates the feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. Most of us remember it as Corpus Christi. While the English expresses clearly what the feast is all about, the Latin has a certain flavor that helps appreciate the sweetness of this profound mystery. Reverence for the Eucharist in any language should always call forth from us a deep appreciation of God s total and selfless generosity. The Body and Blood of Christ is His way of nourishing us in the life of the Trinity. Do we not seek that with every Our Father prayed when we utter Give us this day our daily Bread? Let s never take for granted what we are engaged in when receiving Holy Communion. Whether you receive on the hand or the tongue, your act of faith transcends any failure or sin. Think about it and realize profoundly that our Heavenly Father never fails to feed His children. We congratulate all our young parishioners graduating this Spring. Two of our high school seniors are acknowledged in this week s bulletin. Our hats off to Nicoleta Uicker graduating from Divine Child and to Aric Ramos moving on from Edsel Ford High. Four years from now you will hear about two more of our wonderful young parishioners, Helen Jakubowicz and Paul Jakob who recently bid farewell to their elementary school days and will be beginning their high school journey next Fall. We can all be very proud of Nicoleta, Aric, Helen, and Paul! We don t have to just be proud only of our young folks, we can also celebrate having reached 97% of our CSA target. As most know, once we reach our goal all further contributions to the CSA remain in the parish for our use. This year we hope to use such funds for re-sealing and striping the parking lot-something that should be done every 4-5 years for good maintenance. We are blessed with beautiful parish buildings and campus and we always hope to keep it that way. Have a good beginning of June and remember that the projected completion of work on Rotunda Drive is scheduled for early July.

Page 2 FAITH FORMATION By Grace Lakatos June is upon us and with it comes the celebration of the milestone of graduation. I will be the first to admit that the arrival of graduation photos, announcements, invitations and such are met with a tear or two. But they are tears of happiness as I realize how blessed I am to have been a part of these young people s lives! This, of course, includes the young people here at St. Kateri. Below are two such people and we are honored that you have shared your milestone with us I speak for all of the parish and to all graduates in saying, Congratulations! We are proud of you and happy for you. We hope and pray for the very brightest of futures for you. Aric Ramos Nicoleta Uicker As you go forth on this next stage in your journey of life, please take these two quotes from Pope Francis to Heart: Dear young people, do not bury your talents, the gifts that God has given you! Do not be afraid to dream of great things! (April 26, 2013) Fear never helps, never offers good advice. Listen to Jesus, Be not afraid! go forward with hope in God s grace. (July 2, 2013) PARISH NEWS MAY OCTOBER ROSARY Please join us on Monday evenings at 6 PM at the Blessed Mother s Shrine to say the rosary. You may wish to bring a lawn chair if you need to be seated. JPII GIFT AND BOOK SHOP NEWS With Spring and all the recent rains, gardening season is upon us. The Gift and Book Shop now carries small garden statues and wind chimes. Add a reminder of God s presence in all creation to your newly planted garden. This is also a season for moving into new homes. St. Joseph home seller statues and house warming gifts are available in the shop. Stop by and browse before and after weekend Masses. TRAVEL NEWS A Day in Grand Rapids was a success. It was sunny and bright as we visited the Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park. The sculptures were amazing and the Japanese Gardens were peaceful and serene. The Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum gave us insight into the life of the President and there was a special exhibit celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Betty Ford. The burial site of both the President and Mrs. Ford is on the grounds of the museum. SACRED HEART OF JESUS Whether statues or stained glass, the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus can be found in churches all over the world. Jesus looks down, one hand extended out and another pointing to a heart wreathed in thorns and glowing with light. In the Sacred Heart, we see both the sorrow and the joy of the life of Christ, who became one of us out of love. "Jesus knew and loved us each and all during his life, his agony, and his Passion and gave himself up for each one of us? He has loved us all with a human heart" (CCC 478). In the Incarnation, God becomes man. Jesus experienced the fullness of humanity, including its sufferings. June 8th is the Feast of the Sacred Heart. We remember all that Jesus endured for us. We also remember why he endured it -- out of love.
